A lot of world renowned artist have done live covers of their favorite songs by another artist. But to do it when that artist is on the same bill is just disrespectful. With comedy it's completely different because jokes don't have the same effect when the audience knows the punchline, whereas with music you can listen to your favorite song for an entire day & it feels like a new song each and every time. Musicians want you to know the words of their songs so you can sing along. To go back to the Soca thing, a Soca artist can get booking for 2+ years off one song, so to fill time they will sing songs of other artists that aren't on the show.
