A Lot of people dont know but none of his first performances was as The Artful Dodger in the Original Oliver Twist Movie! I apologize, Jamal. I've been really busy an haven't checked in in a while, but when I saw Humble Pure, I HAD to be here! These guys were one of the very best the early, honest, stripped down to the bones, absolutely solid blues rock bands. 👍👍 💖
I saw this band twice '72 and '73! They were a hard rockin' group! I played this song over and over and over! I've got ALL their albums! Again, how blessed was I to be a teen during this great musical time in history?
Jamal you are a joy. I was a 19 year stoner guitar player and this song was my soundtrack to the time. So glad that you got to groove to the mighty Steve Marriot!
Love the drum & guitar sound in this one. I also recommend All Right Now by Free (make sure the length is roughly around 5:40 or 5:30 for the right version), and Peter Frampton’s “Do You Feel Like We Do”.
Steve Marriott (the singer here) was a member of the Small Faces. After he left, the band called themselves "The Faces" and hired Rod Stewart as a singer; the were also in the Jeff beck Group, whose album "Truth" is just excellent. There are many live concerts of the Faces here on YT, too, check them out.

A lil bit of Pie history: 50 years ago, a certain 14-year old (me) got to go to his first rock concert which headlined Humble Pie with Steve Marriott on lead vocals and Peter Frampton on lead guitar. This was on the tour that produced the Live At The Fillmore album. Some unknown band named Earth, Wind & Fire opened for them and put on a great show. Since a headline act can’t let an opening act steal the show, Humble Pie came out and blew the roof off the place. To this day, it is still one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen. RIP Steve Marriott who died in his 40’s from smoke inhalation from a house fire. RIP Jerry Shirley who passed while camping, if I remember the story correctly. Thank you Jamal, for posting this. Glad you enjoyed! Try also Shine On, Hallelujah and I Don’t Need No Doctor (live). Enjoy!
The little guy singers name is Clem Clempson, born in Staffordshire England in 1949. He replaced Peter Frampton who was the original lead singer. He's still alive today and still tours in Europe. He married a black American woman who was a backup/harmony singer which back in the day was frowned upon. The band Humble Pie's only time breaking into the Hot 100 was while Clem was with the band.
I don’t know why I was thinking about this song. Reminiscing about one of my first concerts. A band called Bang, Humble Pie, Buddy Miles and Rod Stewart. Humble Pie with a young Peter Framton blew them all away. Bang was very heavy and really enjoyed them also.
not very many artists from that period would put lyrics about drug use in their songs like Marriott did in this song when he says "a silver coke spoon gives me my release".
Steve Marriott was a truly special talent. Thanks for this! BTW Jamal, loving that sweet falsetto of yours. You should be making videos other people react to!
Man, that harmonica takes me back to the old traveling gospels Dad took me to. I asked Dad if God approves of our singing and he said God commands his children make a joyous noise, Love my father and OUR FATHER...

Steve Marriott died in April of 1992. That was recorded in 1972. Check out "Get Down To It" and "Is It For Love" off of Eat It!. Also the second side of Eat It! has a number of R&B covers, including That's How Strong My Love Is and Ray Charles' I Believe To My Soul. Steve was arguably the best Blue Eye'd Soul singer of all time. I saw them live in 72,73,74, and 75. No one touched them live. I love your videos. Keep it up and I will spread the word.
Damn,... how lucky you were to see them once, let alone so many other times. They're the one band (besides Zeppelin) I would have loved to have seen live.
This is a great song, thankyou for reacting to it .You could also try songs like "Tin Soldier", " All Or Nothing" etc by the Small Faces. Steve Marriott sings on those songs too. SO good.
Thanks Jamel. No he was still alive when smokin was released. If you like his voice check out Itchykoo park by the Small faces. And young peeps ask me why I am the way I am. Also try Highway star by Uriah Heep. .
Now were Talkin. Humble Pie is one of my all time favorite bands. Peter Frampton started the band and gave it to the members after alot of lps because he wanted a mellower sound then the direction it was heading to. They are awesome.
This batch of folks, were also my friends. Peter Frampton, was brought in from another British band. Steve Marriott was from the very successful Small Faces. Greg Ridley was a great bass player, and Jerry Shirley was a top drummer! Lit alone that they were all fine singers!
It's incredible that I had scroll down this far to find any mention of Greg Ridley and Jerry Shirley, as great as they were. Ridley also in another vastly underappreciated group in Spooky Tooth.
Jamal - Thank you so much. I'm 63, I lived through that time... I never picked up on HUMBLE PIE Just so many bands back then. But I saw your reaction to Black Coffee and I was blown away. Steve Marriot was still alive and well at that time they made alot of lp's after this.
I don’t know why I was thinking about this song. Reminiscing about one of my first concerts. A band called Bang, Humble Pie, Buddy Miles and Rod Stewart. Humble Pie with a young Peter Framton blew them all away. Bang was very heavy and really enjoyed them also.
They did a ripping cover version of C'mon Everybody, that is a heavy boogie style they were famous for.
One of the greatest songs!!!
Check out Humble Pie's two great albums,"Eat It and Smokin".so much bluesy soul, you'll love it.
Cockney Red Town And Country is also awesome
I hope you've heard their album 'Rock On' too ? Some gems on that one also.
Thank you for loving that amazing song - and Steve Marriott
I don't need no doctor Humble Pie
not very many artists from that period would put lyrics about drug use in their songs like Marriott did in this song when he says "a silver coke spoon gives me my release".
Steve Marriott was more than this with Small Faces - and the history from there.... that's all I say...enjoy the journey! I LOVE my Steve Marriott.
LOVE THIS GUY, JAMAL!! AND 30 DAYS IN THE HOLE...
Steve Marriott was the best. Mick was intimidated by his singing and Rod tried to steal his “Mod” title.
Ever hear Steves 'You Need Loving' with The Small Faces, then listen to Plants rendition in Zeps 'Whole Lotta Love' ?? If not then its a MUST. Plant idolized Steve when he was younger and, well if you listen to Steve sing the song you will know what I'm taking about - with no further explanation required !! Check it out:

GOD I love this song! I know this must have been great to see live. Love your thought clouds, Jamal. You can show us what you're thinking without interrupting or talking over the song.
Rock-n-roll always works well when you got a drummer that kicks ass.
This is a great song, thankyou for reacting to it .You could also try songs like "Tin Soldier", " All Or Nothing" etc by the Small Faces. Steve Marriott sings on those songs too. SO good.
Why am I just now finding this channel? I enjoyed it and enjoy exploring music with others. I'll go watch your other videos.
Thanks Jamel. No he was still alive when smokin was released. If you like his voice check out Itchykoo park by the Small faces. And young peeps ask me why I am the way I am. Also try Highway star by Uriah Heep.
.
👍🏾
That song has been my favorite since I can remember
I love Humble Pie. Just put on the Rockin the Fillmore album and enjoy.
Jamal - Thank you so much. I'm 63, I lived through that time... I never picked up on HUMBLE PIE
Just so many bands back then. But I saw your reaction to Black Coffee and I was blown away. So thank you for introducing me to a great band - one that I should have been introducing to you. In the immortal words of T.O.P. - "Some say it's in the blood; but dontcha know it's in your Soul.
"Stay with me" by Faces
please try Humble Pie's "Good Booze And Bad Women". It's rocking and soulful at the same.
