    Agreed, Hunter, comparing this to last year's GTR3, which I had high hopes for, Amazfit is obviously working to step up their game. I bought it without knowing that it would connect to an external chest strap, and when I stumbled upon that feature I was really impressed. Looking at the data that it offers, and especially considering its price, I would consider this over the Venu.

    I am 1 week in to using my new GTS 4 (the square one). While the battery life is definitely not quite as good as advertised, I am impressed with how well it has tracked the flow of my workouts. It seems to overestimate the maximum heart rate, but the average HR and workout flow with time in levels 4 and 5 seems very close to when I previously used my Garmin Forerunner 245 with a chest strap. The 245 was absolute trash for Crossfit workouts without a chest strap. Seriously, a big pile of trash. I am glad I switched. Thanks for your reviews.

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter  Год назад +2

      The 245 Hr accuracy is a big pile of trash without a chest strap for sure. That sensor could in no way keep up w a CrossFit workout! So glad you're liking it. I did find the training effect aspects to overestimate too much though - how about you? Training load and recovery time too

    • @giffordod
      @giffordod Год назад +2

      @@fitgearhunter Yes. I have found the same thing with training load and recovery time. They have definitely overestimated compared to the Garmin algorithm. And the anaerobic is definitely higher than it should be. I am curious to see if that improves with time after it has multiple weeks of data for my typical workout load. I know that Garmin used to give a higher recovery time if I had taken a week off and then started back up with an intense workout again. And the initial recovery times when I first started with Garmin were higher even though my actual fitness was not any different prior to wearing the device (and external monitor). I simply added the tool to monitor it. So time will tell if the Zepp algorithm starts with an assumption of a lesser fit individual and adjusts load and recovery as it analyzes workout performance over time.

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter  Год назад +1

      @@giffordod yes totally. When I tested the GTR3 I found that it did not decrease overtime. This time I tried to make sure to do 10 minute steady state running sessions to get updated VO2 max values, but it didn't really help that much

    This is my 3rd Amazfit GTR watch. The last two (GTR-2 & GTR-3), was returned because the data and accuracy was far from accurate. I've had my GTR-4 since it first shipped and I must say, this one is a keeper. It's a gorgeous watch and the workout data aligns with your review, which was very informative. Your review on the GTR 3 PRO was the one that convinced me to get one. Even though I love it, it's not without its shortcomings. I do a lot of cycling and even though the watch is capable of keeping up with the fluctuations of the HR, at some point it loses track. I may be climbing an uphill getting a HR reading of 61(?l. I need to pause and resume the workout manually several times for it to regain accuracy. And if I fail to notice it then the resulting PAI score is totally off. Secondly, the Zepp app is not intuitive enough to put the dots together between pause and resume, say at a junction or traffic lights. That may account for a deviation of up to 10% in the total distance from the reported total on Strava . GPS accuracy has improved greatly with an update but still room for improvement. On the positive side, it has a very stable firmware with regular updates. and it's giving me all the metrics I want without the fussy details that I don't need. All in all, appart from the ability to now connect to a chest-strap, I don't expect this to be a huge step up in terms of accuracy. Btw, I prefer the looks of the GTR 3. More elegant.
    Looking forward for your review on the Falcon. Looks like several steps up the GTR series.
    Thanks man!

    • @menifo4334
      @menifo4334 10 месяцев назад

      @@Mr-BareMinimum I had this watch for fifteen months. I returned it to the seller at the end of last June. After the last update three months before that, the watch got worse with an unresponsive screen and an unstable BT connectivity. Those were two of the strong points of the watch and they messed it up. HR accuracy didn't improve. It could still dive down to as low of 49bpm while cycling on an uphill. HR inaccuracy has been the major flaw with all Amazfit watches, one that may have improved since their latest model the Balance. It remains to be seen if this improvement will be carried over to the upcoming GTR5. Hope this helps.

    I've had this for a little less than a week now and I really like it. I'm coming from a Fitbit Versa 4, which I was a little underwhelmed with, and this watch is just so much better in almost every way. The only con I've come across so far, is that when I'm boxing/hitting the heavy bag, I've discovered that when wearing hand wraps and the boxing gloves, they tends to always press in the crown on the watch and interrupt the workout program. First time I did it, and finished up the workout, I was disappointed to see that it didn't track any information because of this. I couldn't find a way to turn off the crown when doing a workout in the settings, so my workaround has been to actually turn the watch around on my wrist before putting on the wraps and gloves. While not ideal, at least this way the crown is facing the other way and doesn't get accidentally pushed in!

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter  Год назад +1

      First off - best YT profile pic ever. "Who is the meanest? Who is the baddest?! Sho-nuff!"
      Yes - that is definitely a worthwhile solution - but better would be to connect the Watch to a heart rate cheat strap and take it off entirely. The chest strap will transmit HR for the workout, and no troubles w the watch for the boxing. Have you considered that before? I believe the GTR4 will connect to external sensors

    • @saviordream
      @saviordream Год назад

      @@fitgearhunter Yes, I believe the watch does connect to external heart rate monitors, although I'd have to look into which ones in particular would work with the unit. I'm also unsure how secure a monitor strapped to the chest would be for this kind of workout. It'd probably be fine, but something else I'd have to investigate, as well as the costs involved. Not sure all of this would be worth it, as just turning the watch around on my wrist seems to work fine, and when I do this the workout program works runs normally, and it records the data without issue. It's a minor annoyance I've found in an otherwise fantastic smartwatch/fitness tracker. It is just something I'm surprised they didn't consider since they have a number of "combat sports" activities in the 154 total, and I imagine this same issue can come up with any one of them.

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter  Год назад +1

      @@saviordream yes completely, but I would definitely look at chest straps to no longer worry about it - any bluetooth HR sensor would work - I bet you could get one even on eBay for ~$50 that would have minimal use and work perfectly. Good luck!

    What I'm finding with some of the fitness and smartwatches is that the aerobic/anaerobic training load effects are sometimes overestimated for more fit users. Much like happens with scales that measure BMI, i've found that it tends to return a higher value. A lot of times these calculations are set up to cover the middle of the bell curve and fits your "average joe" then a high performance/highly trained individual.
