I love the Vik 1. The footprint is so small I can pitch it in more places than I could with the lanshan 1. In nice conditions, I'll use 2 pegs/stakes for the vestibules. Super fast and easy to pitch. I took it out in wet/cold conditions this past Winter. The candle lantern worked great in it. I'll probably mostly use this in nicer conditions, but it's good to know I'm not miserable in a single-walled tent in damp conditions. I like the designs of exoskeleton tents and will probably keep looking out for them. Thanks for the review!
Make it out of Dyneema, beef up the poles and make it 500mm longer!
With the pump / lantern, the bale unhooks from the body so you can thread it through a loop and simply hook it back in. Great bit of kit.
Thanks for another great review.
Congrats on getting hold of one at last! I wouldn't be without my Vik 1. I fully agree that it's only really a fair weather tent (rain/cloud enters through the vents otherwise, and in cold weather, condensation is an issue, as with any single skin tent). It's the same weight as a lot of middleweight bivvy bags and packs down REALLY small. If I had to reduce my line-up down to only two tents, the Vik 1 would definitely stay 😊 James.
That's good to know James, I'm out tomorrow night at about 1500 foot, on off showers and swithering whether to take it for a trial run or just fall back on my bomber Sky Solus instead, decisions !
@@AndrewParkOutdoors I've only used mine in damp conditions (camping in a cloud with a little bit of wind) and the vent velcro was too weak to hold the vents shut, so the cloud kept blowing in and spraying me. If you pop your sleeping bag in a bivvy bag you'll be okay! The Vik 1 deals encouragingly well with a bit of wind though, for such a lightweight thing 🙂
@@joinmeoutdoors Yeah the Vik 1 is great. I used my rain jacket to cover the footbox of my quilt but I picked up a 3FUL tyvek quilt cover to try. I'm hoping it will help with the condensation buildup in the Vik 1. I did a rain test and water does get in through the vents with wind but it was dry when I had them closed. I'm thinking of adding extra velcro to make sure the vents are closed with high winds. Cheers!
You are not selling it James!
@@rodoutdoors Extra velcro sounds like a good idea. I'm sure the vents would be okay in rain if there was no wind actively blowing the rain in.
Looks a really decent option for summer. Looks really well designed in terms of zips and the magnetic clips etc.
Deffo one for dryer conditions but it was strong at the weekend in winds
With the flextail just pull the metal loop out of its retaining hole and slide it through the tent hanging loop and reattach, do it all the time, works a treat. Looking forward to seeing the VIK 1 put through its paces 👍
Have one in my fire bag for wildland assignments love it
Nice, so small and light you could almost pack it most of the time. A
Happy new tent. I do very much like the exoskeletal tents, they really do maximise inner tent space. I'm also very impressed that you recognise turf evaporation, I'd have been blown away if you had opened up the evapotranspiration discussion😁.. Seriously though, it looks great.. get well soon. 🤧
Have your two xmids turned up Jim? , I'm hoping you'll give me one cheap 😜
@@AndrewParkOutdoors oh my word have I got a story to tell about that fiasco. Aye, picked up the first one this week from the sorting office....wait for it... £168 duty... Yeh baby.... 👊... But that wasn't the punchline to this sick joke... I'll tell you bout it one day Andrew.. I'm a little injured at the moment but hopefully out in it tomorrow night if I can find a spot not too far from the car but far enough to enjoy it... The other Xmid is probably somewhere over or on the Atlantic. I won't be paying the ransom 😂😂⛺
I always bring a carabiner with me to hang my head torch as a lamp. I love my Vik-1, I took it on the WHW last year, so grateful for it’s ultra light weight.
Good idea , I'll add one !
Interesting tent, the pegs are like MSR and also the pole structure is like MSR !! Be nice to see it in the wind
Cheers
By the way, with your Tiny Pump, you just need to pop the metal ring out of one or both of the holes it clips into, feed it through the hanging loop in your tent, and then pop each end of the metal ring back into the little holes in the pump body 👌 James.
Brilliant , that occurred to me after I filmed , wondered whether you could unclip ! Excellent 👍
My favourite tent!
Interesting Tent Andrew. Hope that it's a dry summer though. I had an old Vango 100 (ultra lite .....I think...from memory).....Looked like a wee submarine. SWEATBOX!!!!!!!!!!!! Yours looks better vented TBF.
Oh yeah I nearly bought one, very like my old north face single skin, deffo a summer option.
Ticks a lot of boxes. Great for pitching in the rain, and it looks well vented. Cheers 👍
Hi I have the vik 2 and I just fold the door flap inside rather than outside and clip to the same corner guy. Or I unzip totally and use 2 walking poles to form a mini tarp.
Yes exactly, not sure why people complain about the clip and going outside when it is so easy to do from inside. People who review tents seem to not really use them
Looks great! Unfortunately I’m looking for a winter tent and this doesn’t do well in wet not cold conditions. Too bad for ne
Looks like a great tent for the money.
Worth a shot in dryish weather John
Too bad only white colour available. AFAIK you can't get 1-person version as green.
I agree, would be a great seller in Green,
Cold the door inside bro job done 👍
I have the first version. Got inundated a few times in it, also one inner pole section broke. It's a shame because I like the tent and the price is great. Never used the spikes. Easy to set up.
I might get the version two but I need to be sure the rain is not getting in anymore through those vents.
Anybody experienced wet nights in the second version?
Yes I can see how that could happen, especially if it doesn't have the wee rain flaps on the earlier version. A
@@AndrewParkOutdoors Has your comment been truncated?
So what are the advantages compared to the tagar? except being 100g lighter? they seem identical
Lanshan 1 xl for me. Plus why make that back hatch zip so small? That's like having a cat flap as your fridge door! That's positive thinking Andrew too that my breath mould has reduced the crinkle, like crisps going damp 😂 narsty!
Maybe it is a cat flap 🤣
@@AndrewParkOutdoors Yes!
this a good tent i have the VIK 2 nice 👍
I can see this tent not doing well in the rain
Hi
So considering slight weight difference,is this better than the Taga 1?
For me yes, much bigger inside and has a nice light ambience about it. A
How tall are you? I'm 185cm and looking for a tent for bike-packing. Not too sure if that one would fit.
I'm a height challenged 173cm 😎
Hi Andrew, what do you think of the hilleberg unna? Have u ever owned one
Never owned one but nearly pulled the trigger on one a few times. It's a strong Hilleberg with a weight that's just about bearable :-)
Oi Andrew is that some kind of High Coast rain jacket from Fjallraven?
Sure is, manky but a go to option for me :-)
@@AndrewParkOutdoors excellent. I have the Keb Eco Shell from them but its a little heavy for summer. Considering some lighter weight options.
`I will check the instructions later` - what are you like ;)
Hi Andrew, forgive me for reaching out on RUclips, but I suspect your Instagram account has been hacked?

condensation is big problem with that tent .shame a the design concept was good idea
Grest vid. ❤ This 🏕️👍
came across this beauty the other day anyone have any experience with this one? tarptent Moment DW Li
Haven't seen or tried one Martin, looks good though!
@@AndrewParkOutdoors I cannot think of a more challenging environment for a backpacking tent than the UK (either you have high winds or excessive condensation (aka pool party)). I always visit your page first to see if you have any experience with a particular tent. how many different tents (models) have you spent at least a night in?
