After 9/11 my mom told me she watched Friends with so many other people just to calm down and feel ok...get a sense of normalcy. She was in her 70's and had never seen the show. Thanks Matthew for that.

"PIVOT!" Was an inside joke. My daughter and I began from the first time I showed her that scene/episode. For a couple of years now, we will text "PIVOT!!" Randomly or often end our texts with the word as another way to say I love you. She's 17.

Friends was my sister and I’s favorite show right from the start. I was 16, she was 19. My sister started recording each new episode on VHS each week. This is how we could rewatch episodes until the show went into syndication in 1998. We were too broke to buy it on VHS. In 1996 our mother and favorite aunt passed away 3 months apart. We were devastated. We pulled out those VHS tapes and wore them out watching the episodes over and over. It got us through a very traumatic time. Friends isn’t just a show to me. It’s an old friend I have relied on to make me laugh when times get hard. Matthew Perry’s passing is just devastating. I am so sad.

It's so unfair. I read his book a month ago. Today I am reading it again from the beginning. The first time I read it, I was crying and my heart hurt like hell… we all wish him to find love and never fall into addiction again…When I found out he died (I live in Europe, so I woke up from a weird dream at 5 in the morning) and then looked on Facebook and my heart was immediately broken… I cried all Sunday and since then every time I think of him or see some video I cry again. I can't stop thinking about it. So very sad… he was such a beautiful, talented and funny person. I'm watching Friends for about the millionth time in my life. It always made my day better. Chandler was the man of our dreams… too bad Matthew wasn't more like him. Responsible… but it was the disease that killed him. I am all the more aware of the harmfulness of addictive substances and our own mortality...
but something tells me that it was his destiny…

Life is so fragile and changeable. You don't know when the last time you see someone is. I read Matthew's biography. He showed the face of a normal, good man (we know he was a big Hollywood star). He had problems, failures, weaknesses like many of us. (Me too). Matthew founded a house where people can get help in fighting addiction. Despite the problems, he moved forward... @@stephaniewilliams168 what’s sad is my parents are 47 so not that much younger than 50 and I remember vividly when they were my age (27) around the time friends and off the air. Its honestly like we both grew up on friends in a way. However both gen x & generations there after are dying extremely young in general and American life expectancy has dropped significantly! It’s like every month a celebrity born in the 90s is dying too. Enjoy the time you got on this earth it’s such a short experience for most of us!
A Good Friend Stand by You In Your Bad Days...Not Only in your good Days...
I was a latecomer to Friends. For the past few years I have been watching reruns multiple times per day. Although Chandler wasn't my favourite character at first, he started to grow on me in the weeks preceding his death. All week, I have been consumed by this tragic event and have learned much about Matthew's life through various videos and interviews. As such, he has given me a new perspective on addiction, through his words. Rest well, Matthew. ❤
I too was a latecomer to Friends and regret I never got around to viewing that show but I had to work 2 jobs due to the need of more income to survive on my own after my divorce. However, I can see the brilliance of his work and of those of his cast mates were truly gifted and the beauty of that show the entire cast worked so well together as "family" and not just "Friends." RIP Mathew
Wasn't my favorite either along with Monica But grew on me pretty quick.. rachel on the other hand got annoying/self entitled spoiled etc.. It was a"Break". Lol
I loved all the characters but Chandler wasn’t my favorite, it was Joey and Rachel was so beautiful but I have got to admit that I didn’t see Matthew petty as this stupid guy who becomes vulnerable when faced with drugs and alcohol. I always saw him as the smart one and his sarcastic jokes emphasized his intelligence. Since reading his book, I had to realize that it’s the same person but I like the character, not the live person 😢
This comes close to my heart and I can’t believe he went through all of this and survived this long. Very hard to come out better on the other side after something this intense. Glad he was able to help others and hope that continues. If you need help, ask for it! 😢

This has hit me so hard. I've had several cries this week. I've been a long time fan of his, even before the television show Friends. I will put this out there because I am proud to say that 18 years ago I went to rehab for extreme drug and alcohol usage. I myself almost passed away twice because of drug overdose. While I was in rehab he was on my mind the whole time. I made it through because of him, he was my shining star, I had never even met him. To this day I am 18 years clean and sober. He wanted to be known for how he had helped people through addiction. Guess what Matthew, I am one that you helped through it, thank you. I love you and will forever miss you. God bless you and your family and friends and fans all over the world. I pray for all the addicts out there that they seek help and get clean. Addiction is the darkest place to be in, and one that I don't wish on anyone.

I do not follow celebrities but there is something about Mathew Perry's death that has gotten to me. I saw an interview with him, he was so passionate about helping others!!
That is what drew me to him. Addiction is a horrible thing to go through, I know from personal experience as well as family members.
I knew someone who had the same issues Matthew had (perforated bowel) but my friend did not make it. So sad what years of drug and alcohol abuse does to the body----even after you may quit the damage to the body is still there.

I heard about his death from a radio app on my phone. It was the day after he died and I was making breakfast. After the announcer said that Matty died, I screamed and became hysterical. I haven't felt SO devestated by a celebrity death since Patrick Swayze died. Rest In Peace, Matty. 🙏✝️

I herd about it last Sun. morning on The Today Show and boy was I in shock.
Since Swayze? He died about 14 years ago i think? We've lost so many greats in all those years. Robin Williams, prince, Sinead, Anthony Bourdain, to name a few. Swayze was so sick I remember. It was shocking. For me, it's the unexpected/early, sudden deaths that make it harder for me personally.
