    Another point is the overuse of LED light sabers is getting tiresome. They light the face too much. I love the look of the prequels and OG due to the surreal nature of it. And this is from a guy who loves RGB light sticks and LEDs when making films and photos. But the truth is now they just oversaturate the scene, its a very cool look dont get me wrong, but now they use it to hide fights. Its an innovation that has made them lazy in choreography.

      Exactly, and in the cinematography, flat out forgoing lighting structure since the led lightsabers give off light. Lazy, and looks horrible

    This is one of the VERY FEW level-headed videos about The Acolyte that I've seen. Thank you!
    For science fiction/fantasy fans, there's a BUNCH of people choosing to express a distinct lack of imagination re: how 2 groups of people, separated by galaxy and some centuries, might use 2 different words to explain a god-like magic they happen to have in common.
    MY secret hope is that this show is gonna pull a 'Fight Club' and Osha and Mae are the same person.. and SHE is the Sith Lord.. and also her own Acolyte. But EVEN THEN I'm sure people will STILL find a way to be mad that they have different hairstyle.

    Appreciate you taking an objective look at this, to set the record straight. I still won't be watching as I have no enthusiasm for any of the new material though as it lost the magic of the universe and sense of wonderment from the original series of movies (and some of the associated works up until the prequels).

    They should do a multiverse Star Wars where they show us the real identity of Darth Vader and when he removes the mask, the disfigured face is another mask and when he takes it off we see a non binary/black lesbian with whose son was born from a man trapped in a woman’s body and his weapon is soy milk. That’ll call my attention.

    I disagree... There is an implication to redefining the force. Anakin was the first and only child conceived this way.... it's akin to there now being a couple of 'Jesus' twins 100 years earlier. However, I whole heartedly agree that Star Wars is a festering corpse since Lucas sold it... but that corpse continues to be defiled. That's just disrespectful to those who loved it.

    • @Ericthecameraman
      @Ericthecameraman  5 месяцев назад

      Absolutely, it doesn’t necessarily break the mythology or change the rules, but cheapens and dilutes what came before. Twin Jesus is a perfect example

    • @Mlbkraven
      @Mlbkraven 5 месяцев назад

      I understand what you’re saying, but people aren’t slowing down to actually understand the distinction. Anakin was the only child the force itself created. Other beings have been manifested through the force through beings outside of the force influencing it. Anakin is just the only one that the force itself created all alone through its own will.

    Create a new universe and build it however you wish. I have no problem featuring women and characters who mirror the LGBTQ community. Just stop bringing it up and patting yourself on the back for doing so.

  • @HelenaDeBavarian
    @HelenaDeBavarian 5 месяцев назад

    As far as I’m aware it was only implied but never confirmed (unless there was a line in the comics or the expanded universe) that Anakin was “created” by Palpatine/another force user. Anakin was created by the Force itself meaning what these witches did, is something even Palpatine wasn’t able to do…sooo yeah… it just gives “women did it first” vibes.

    Who is your favorite significant white guy character in the show? It's so important to have representation after all, or so I've heard, lol. Really the only thing I want to see from this show is a budget sheet, same as I want from Rings of Power, because I've just got to know where all the money is going . . . are there gallons of Moët & Chandon at every on-set craft services table . . . is there a mountain of coke now underneath the castle at Disneyland . . . wth??

    But they weren’t Jedi. They were witches not like the dark ones of Dathomir. So it’s interesting but needs more development.

  • @mxvega1097
    @mxvega1097 5 месяцев назад +2

    Mother Aniseya delivered a take on the Force which was little different from the Dathomiri witches, new metaphors maybe, but not lore-breaking. She sounded like a cult leader shoring up the faithful, and desperate when confronted by outsiders.
    She also came across as a poor parent, a guileless liar, a sociopath, and a lousy leader uninterested in the welfare of her flock.
    She called for no weapons and no violence, then possesses Torbin. WTF. This is casus belli. In short, she's a fool.
    The dumbness knows no bounds on this show, the story mostly partial and confused, the bits that do make sense are contradicted minutes later, the music is painfully out of context, it has no feel of Star Wars and even a basket of gratuitous memberberries is not going to change that. And it looks cheap. OMG it looks cheap. Like Stargate Season 7 cheap.
    On the charge of breaking Star Wars - not guilty. Not even close.
    On the charge of aiding and abetting a show of stunning mediocrity enlivened only by its own mistakes - very guilty.

    • @Ericthecameraman
      @Ericthecameraman  5 месяцев назад +1

      Right! The way she comes across seems very different than their intent, more cult leader than “strong powerful leader”

    I've enjoyed your videos on the D+ star wars shows a lot! I'm writing an article on the acolyte for my school paper. I've read that the volume was not used for the show, yet it still looks pretty terrible. Do you have any insight into why that might be? Outside of the LED lightsabers which are one of my biggest pet peeves of the disney era.

    • @Ericthecameraman
      @Ericthecameraman  4 месяца назад +1

      Thank you!
      The acolyte seems to visually come up short because of a lot of different aspects, lighting, framing, blocking and staging, set design etc. The lighting seems to try to emulate both the modern naturalistic look (think realism, nighttime scenes look really dark and soft) as well as a more classic noir style (shadowed faces, hard lighting), but doesn’t really commit to either style, and sort of has this half in the bag muddy feel. No separation or depth in design, just very flat and murky, especially with the LED lightsabers taking over the key lights like you mentioned. Like I said there’s a lot more that goes into how poor it looked, but that’s the simplified version of one aspect- hope it helps and good luck on your article!

    What bothers me about this episode is that it is supposed to give context to Mei’s revenge and why she is after these Jedi in particular. The point of any revenge story is to show our protagonist as sympathetic while painting the ones who wronged them as those that need to be punished. But in this case, what the Jedi in question have done in contrast to Mei as our protagonist does not even come close to what she herself did. Mei is shown to always have had been a psychopath and she is the one who burned down her family and almost killed her sister just because she wanted to leave. So if the goal is paint the Jedi like Sol as in the wrong, how exactly are you doing that when you had your protagonist act like a selfish and entitled brat who caused a massive fire that killed everyone and refuses to apologize or feel guilt for it?
    There is nothing to feel sympathy for in regard to Mei or her quest for revenge when she caused all of the problems in her life right now.

    Yes, StarWars as a story to be told in a Galaxy far far away died with the take-over by Disney. But it was already wounded by the gringe George Lucas did in the Prequels. Nevertheless, the Acolyte Show is a special kind of stupid and agenda driven garbage thats only reason to exist seems to be mocked and shown as an example how not to make a compelling StarWars story. And the most tragic on this Show is that it is not even the worst Show in Disney Not-StarWars. It just is the most spitefull Show but still a little bit less stupid than Kenobi and Ahsoka.

    It's broker than my Chevy Silverado 1500 Z's shifter cable. At least I can fix that one day, but star wars is just done. They would literally half to throw away episodes 7-9 movies and most of the newer shows besides The Mando season one. They could re-make The Mandalorian and bring back Gina Carano and go from there. Besides that it's gonna get buried like Atari did in a landfill. Well digital landfill so to speak. Sad as I am to type that and know it's true. Good job Disney, lady's, LGBT ext., and liberal left media. Are you happy? I'm not. And will no longer buy that crap and or video games. Don't get me started on the video games. Peace ✌️
