Red One is Amazon Prime video's Christmas movie they've decided to release in cinemas first. Featuring The Rock and Chris Evans with an estimated budget of over $250 million this is a big bet, and it seemingly failed. Critics hated it, few people went to see it, but from their reviews it doesn't seem all bad. I can't help but think they're being a bit pretentious over what was meant to be a cheesy family Christmas film. I have no desire to go to the cinema to watch this, but on streaming I'd give it a chance. And the reviews just give me more hope that even if it's bad, there would be some fun to salvage from it. But as they complain about testosterone and action, I think our tastes are misaligned on this one. But what did you think of the trailer and reviews? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)
its definitely a bad movie, i dont care what words they use to describe it. even though the lead actor clearly being on testosterone replacement therapy because of abusing steroids for half his life and uses cheesy action scenes as a crutch in all of his movies makes that description 100% correct. can we stop being literal snowflakes every time someone says words we dont like?

"The movie tries its best to please everyone..." You stopped reading too soon, the next line was the most telling of the entire review. "However, Red One fails in this attempt, since aiming to please everyone results in not catering to any specific group." When did this become a bad thing? When did Hollywood decide that making something for the masses was bad, and that is HAD to cater to any one group? I know, they decided that a while ago, but good grief, I miss the old days when movies were fun, and everyone could go and enjoy them. Now they make these niche movie where 5% of the audience gets something out of it and the other 95% can go pound sand. After losing billions of dollars, maybe they should try a few more movies made for the masses and not just for the "specific group." Of course, if this movie flops they will just point at it and say; "SEE, no one wants this type of movie either, quick, make ten more for Group A!"
There's no problem with making movies that cater to specific groups, this has always been a thing. The problem is that when a movie flops, they always blame ONE specific group for this and call them all kinds of ists and phobes, ignoring the fact that other groups didn't watch the movie either...
The Rock is just so fake. He has no goodwill left in the tank. The other guy who was Captain America simply has no star power, he is just simply captain america guy. Equals flop.
Age ratings aren't the issue as we have great adult Christmas movies like Friday After Next and Bad Santa. It's a quality issue which is iust par for the course for Hollywood at this point.
The failure of Red One at the box office can be largely attributed to bloated production and marketing expenses. A significant portion of the budget likely went toward paying exorbitant salaries for the lead actors, which, while standard in Hollywood, doesn't always translate to box office success. And the claim that marketing costs "half the budget" is a complete and utter lie for the lazy and incompetent. In most cases, only a fraction of what is spent on marketing would suffice if used strategically. Overhyping or poorly targeted campaigns can inflate these costs unnecessarily, failing to create the kind of buzz or audience connection required for success. It’s a classic example of mismanaged priorities: instead of focusing on the quality of the film or a well-thought-out promotion strategy, resources are wasted on superficial expenditures that do little to enhance the movie’s appeal.
As Marvel continues to flop, we're treated to a Marvel-themed Christmas movie. Complete with one liners that make your eyes roll, jokes to ruin any emotional or tension filled moments, and a mix of A-list actors that make you wonder: So, is the Rock going to make another Jumanji movie, because I actually enjoyed those.

It’s just a generic action film with a Christmas skin. And it’s not even that Christmassy! Yes the character is Santa and his elf but it doesn’t feel Christmassy at all.

Just took my family to see it. It's a solid 8 out of 10. My son loved it, almost died laughing when the rock turned into a midget and beat up 4 bodyguards. Hi, Disparu! I just wanted to drop a note to say how glad I am to have discovered your channel! I first came across your review of episode one of Willow on Disney+ because I was curious about the show but unable to watch it myself. Typically, I steer clear of reviewers, as so many seem to base their opinions on a liberal checklist for "the message" rather than valuing good storytelling and entertainment.
