Red One is Amazon Prime video's Christmas movie they've decided to release in cinemas first. Featuring The Rock and Chris Evans with an estimated budget of over $250 million this is a big bet, and it seemingly failed. Critics hated it, few people went to see it, but from their reviews it doesn't seem all bad. I can't help but think they're being a bit pretentious over what was meant to be a cheesy family Christmas film. I have no desire to go to the cinema to watch this, but on streaming I'd give it a chance. And the reviews just give me more hope that even if it's bad, there would be some fun to salvage from it. Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)
its definitely a bad movie, i dont care what words they use to describe it. even though the lead actor clearly being on testosterone replacement therapy because of abusing steroids for half his life and uses cheesy action scenes as a crutch in all of his movies makes that description 100% correct. can we stop being literal snowflakes every time someone says words we dont like?

The failure of Red One at the box office can be largely attributed to bloated production and marketing expenses. A significant portion of the budget likely went toward paying exorbitant salaries for the lead actors, which, while standard in Hollywood, doesn't always translate to box office success. And the claim that marketing costs "half the budget" is a complete and utter lie for the lazy and incompetent. In most cases, only a fraction of what is spent on marketing would suffice if used strategically. Overhyping or poorly targeted campaigns can inflate these costs unnecessarily, failing to create the kind of buzz or audience connection required for success. It’s a classic example of mismanaged priorities: instead of focusing on the quality of the film or a well-thought-out promotion strategy, resources are wasted on superficial expenditures that do little to enhance the movie’s appeal.
It’s just a generic action film with a Christmas skin. And it’s not even that Christmassy! Yes the character is Santa and his elf but it doesn’t feel Christmassy at all.
Hi, Disparu! I just wanted to drop a note to say how glad I am to have discovered your channel! I first came across your review of episode one of 'Willow' on Disney+ because I was curious about the show, but unable to watch it myself. Typically, I steer clear of reviewers, as so many seem to base their opinions on a liberal checklist for "the message" rather than valuing good storytelling and entertainment. Reviews often end up being overly emotional and lacking depth. However, your review was a breath of fresh air, showing a level of common sense that’s sorely missing in entertainment commentary today. Since then, I’ve looked forward to watching your videos. While I admit I haven’t seen all of them-some of the topics are unfamiliar to me-I always enjoy your analysis and British humor. It’s such a great contrast to the Hollywood radical nonsense we deal with here in California. Your voice of reason and wit from across the pond is truly refreshing. I genuinely appreciate your reviews and look forward to more in the future. Thank you for what you do!😀

As Marvel continues to flop, we're treated to a Marvel-themed Christmas movie. Complete with one liners that make your eyes roll, jokes to ruin any emotional or tension filled moments, and a mix of A-list actors that make you wonder: So, is the Rock going to make another Jumanji movie, because I actually enjoyed those.

I'm so beyond tired of this guy. As a wrestling fan it's been disgusting to see him just show up unannounced and hijack the storylines so that he can be the big star at the expense of the full-timers who actually put in all the work to earn their spots. He's a liar, manipulator, and overwhelming narcissist who needs to just shut up and go away for a very long time.
@@vespasianflavius2766 He already got what he earned from enduring the fan hatred a long time ago. He had his heyday, he was a megastar in the late 90s and even the early 2000s. Then he moved on, and it was time for a new generation of wrestlers to shine. It was nice when he showed up for a guest spot here and there but all he's done in the last decade plus is suddenly just show up to steal the main event and turn the entire spotlight of the promotion onto himself. Getting a family member a high position in NXT, getting his father and grandmother into the hall of fame, having the company give him his own personalized title belt, and trying to hijack the storyline that the company had spent a year building for Cody was, for many people, the final straw.
We shouldn't. Audience numbers are as usual generally a more reliable indicator of movie value because most of us are just masses who want to be entertained, not preached to or wowed. And Red One is doing great with general audience ratings for a reason. It's a legitimately fun movie with interesting lore, action, and some heart. I'm not defending politics like Johnson driving up production costs, but that's not my problem.
Age ratings aren't the issue as we have great adult Christmas movies like Friday After Next and Bad Santa. It's a quality issue which is iust par for the course for Hollywood at this point.
I thought it was pretty good. Nice to see a movie that wasn't a reboot, remake, or sequel and wasn't full of woke non-sense. An enjoyable Christmas action movie that I could enjoy and tame enough to take my tween daughter to.

You know, I was right there with you. When I first saw the trailer a year ago, I was excited. Personal opinion, I loved "violent night"- was hilarious, Christmas theme, plenty of jokes and physical ambience to make you think it was Christmas, as well as being rated R. I was hopeful for this, now I'm just sad. This is exactly why I don't watch trailers for anything until it's out, so it's not a lingering excitement that then feels like a stronger disappointment when it doesn't pan out....will still probably watch this though, just because I can have a drink with a friend and laugh at least. The movie was just fun for 2 hours without asking anything more. The kids liked it, the adults had an enjoyable 2 hours as well. Ain't that all you want from a movie like this?
Why do studios keep employing The Rock? At this point in his career he should only be in straight to DVD movies, not massive budget films. He's had more turkeys than Bernard Matthews.
The trailers are reminding me of Kurt Russell's Christmas Chronicles, which I thought was great fun. If the critics hate Red One, I will definitely give it a watch (when it hits the streaming services).
They're not the same, though. Christmas Chronicles had Christmas love and cheer central to the plot and character growth. This one treats Christmas like a skin suit to wear.

The power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them.
Believing two contradictory ideas at the same time.
Its why I found his take disengenious here. Strawmanning and misrepresenting what was said aint exactly a legit commentary.
No the failure was due to the media shitting on it because it lacked... The message, I fucking loved it
It’s just a generic action film with a Christmas skin. And it’s not even that Christmassy! Yes the character is Santa and his elf but it doesn’t feel Christmassy at all.
Yeah its uncanny valley kind of

Lol but u do know Batman Returns is a christmas movie too right
Hi, Disparu!
Thank you for what you do!😀
The hierarchy of the flops is about to change with the technology of Oppenheimer during Christmas.
😂
I have not understood why they kept giving the Rock roles over the past few years. Has there BEEN a movie with him that hasn't bombed? All of that just to keep Cavill out?!
The trailers for this one confused the hell out of me. Nothing seemed to fit. It felt like it should have come out a decade or two ago.
Well only because you don’t understand 🙃I’m autistic and I could understand 😅and you so called NORMAL people call us disabled people Retards ? 😅lol how the irony 😅
@@DIDI.TITI777not really you’re traditional marvel movie though is it?

The Rock's an egomaniac. How does anyone justify this costing 250 million & over 2 hours? It's the roids making The Rock think everything he's in should be grandiose

Disparu is so underrated. Might be my current favorite member of the FNT crew. Had me rolling with this one.
I don't understand why J.K. Simmons isn't an A-list star. The man is versatile, doing well in comedic and serious roles. He's charismatic, fun to watch, and is a skilled and talented actor who clearly dedicates himself to his craft. If Hollywood was really about artistry and quality filmmaking, Simmons would be headlining movies, and would have been for years now.
@@earlofbroadstHe's a character actor, and character actors are almost always supporting and rarely leads. Their reliability, versatility, and generally average/approachable looks means they make great foils or launchpads to mainstream-appeal protagonists without outshining them.

Enjoyable to an extent. Best part was that it wasn't about "we have to believe in santa"
I mean, I'm probably not gonna watch it again. Once was enough
So the best part about this Christmas movie was it wasn't really a Christmas movie?

@MamaMOB correct. Almost like the Christmas part is a cheap wrapping paper on a stinker of a present. Yay, more Dwayne "HolyF**kWhatElseCanWePutHimIn" Johnson.

It’s not worth giving The Rock your money. The guy has proven he actively hates “the poors” and even if he didn’t, he’s never bothered to act. He shouldn’t get paid just to show up and be The Rock. Hard pass on anything this guy is in.

It's no "The Night the Reindeer Died" but I might watch this one day, when its free, on a cross-country flight and the Word Scramble game won't load.
"The Night the Reindeer Died" is still one of the greatest movie intros of all time...Seven o'clock. Psychos seize Santa's workshop and only Lee Majors can stop them.
Maybe they should've added more Christmas cheer to balance out the Superhero action film.

Modern audience critics dislike the vibe,
Something not to watch but just stare at,
And no virtue signaling?
That sounds simply entertaining, which is what a movie should be 😂

It was epic
The people score was an 83. Critiques score was 38. This was on rotten tomatoes.
@@Tybear-qz4bx yeah I'm with the audience numbers. Red One was actually quite enjoyable and I have plenty of family and friends who are less dedicated movie goers than me who feel that way. I'm not gonna deny Johnson driving up the production costs with his usual nonsense is cringe, but people bashing this movie have really lost sight of what's fun. Red One on its own merits combines interesting Christmas lore with easy to digest action comedy with some wholesome moments. People denying that are just hating for the sake of hating.
Is Red One a financial disaster? Sure. Is it a bad movie? Nah.
This is the most overproduced, poorly attempted, shameless money grabbing piece of shit I've seen this year. I've seen The Acolyte AND The Rings Of Power.

Didn't earn his way?Clearly you don't remember the rocky sucks chants. Or the die Rocky die ones. The rest of the comment I agree with
@@vespasianflavius2766 He already got what he earned from enduring the fan hatred a long time ago.
Wait, I thought we shouldn't take the critics reviews seriously?
We shouldn't. Audience numbers are as usual generally a more reliable indicator of movie value because most of us are just masses who want to be entertained, not preached to or wowed.
And Red One is doing great with general audience ratings for a reason. It's a legitimately fun movie with interesting lore, action, and some heart. I'm not defending politics like Johnson driving up production costs, but that's not my problem.
what happened to just making a family friendly movie for the holiday season that you could take kids of all ages too not a PG-13 MEH party
Age ratings aren't the issue as we have great adult Christmas movies like Friday After Next and Bad Santa. It's a quality issue which is iust par for the course for Hollywood at this point.
If you haven't seen it, I recommend the animated movie Klaus that came out in 2019. It wasn't really promoted, but it is a really good all ages movie
@@kaeli3952 seen it my issue is when they make a pg13 movie but still have G level humor and content alongside the pg13 content
Hollywood weirdos are incapable of making wholesome family friendly movies in 2024 without gayshit and leftoid programming.

CGI fest is easy to produce with who they think are stars to pull people in

I think i know the next movie I'm going to watch. If anything, because the professional critics hate what was made.
I just saw Red One with my parents and it was actually pretty good, not great by any means, but it had some good messaging, good acting, decent plot, and good choreography, the sets ranged from meh to bad, but it’s a good movie overall, I give it a 6-7 out of 10
Not available in USA on Prime...WTF?😂
You know, I was right there with you. When I first saw the trailer a year ago, I was excited. Personal opinion, I loved "violent night"- was hilarious, Christmas theme, plenty of jokes and physical ambience to make you think it was Christmas, as well as being rated R. I was hopeful for this, now I'm just sad. This is exactly why I don't watch trailers for anything until it's out, so it's not a lingering excitement that then feels like a stronger disappointment when it doesn't pan out....will still probably watch this though, just because I can have a drink with a friend and laugh at least. Just not gonna pay extra 😅, will wait till on a streaming service I already pay for
Ok, it was EXACTLY what was advertised and EXACTLY what you’d expect. It was a good family Christmas action comedy with the Rock. What did you think? It was an entertaining little flick and I’ll probably go watch it again. Good old fashioned buddy comedy without the modern bs which is why they are bashing it.
I used to make a point to go see movies that critics hated because I usually loved them, now though what’s kept me out of the theaters is the actors who attack fans and I really don’t care about Hollywood

You were crapping a lot on the critics score, but did you notice the other side of the coin giving the thing >80% there? Sure, this wasn't some critical masterpiece. I wasn't expecting it to be either. However, I saw this thing last Saturday with both young and old and didn't come out of the theatre with a sour taste in my mouth. The movie was just fun for 2 hours without asking anything more.
The kids liked it, the adults had an enjoyable 2 hours as well. Ain't that all you want from a movie like this?

The real Reason this film

Come on now, the little kids in the theater liked it.
