Building a new locomotive from the ground up: Cutting frame rails

- Today, we're in the machine shop cutting steel for the next batch of ES-2-500 locomotives. This may be the last run of angle iron frames as I'm working on some big improvements to the design, but not before I do a series on how I build locomotives from the ground up.

I like watching people build stuff if they sort of know what they are doing. Even it is something that I would never build or use myself. 👍
There are more videos coming. I'm not building everything in order, but this will be a series, building a series of locomotives. Two will be powered chassis and one will be finished.
@@MillBrookRailroadNice!
My kind of fabrication, steel and sheet metal 👍
Look forward to see this loco come alive bro. Safe travels. Ken.
This looks very interesting. I look forward to following the birth of a new loco. Thanks for sharing. Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪.
Put your coolant ahead of your direction of cut.
If it were my saw, I would. I put the coolant where the owner of the saw says to put it.
Glad to see you took those rags off your bandsaw... If you've ever seen one of those blades snap and unfurl like I have you'd know why! Lol! Safety first, my friend!
Looking forward to getting my engine!
More progress coming soon...
I like where this is going. Good work.
having the proper tools makes things go so much easier! when you need the pieces to match in length
that makes construction so much better, and stronger. no twisting by miss matched length's. so
you are in the process of making 2 engines, do you have all the parts in stock? good luck , stay safe.
I'm in the process of making 4 engines now. I have most of the parts in stock. I need to make a steel order to get the rest.
The birth, almost of a new locomotive.
...or three.
Hi there, have you ever thought of building a loco with 8 wheels,????
I have thought of building bigger locomotives, but 4 wheel critters sell better at the moment.
Interesting!, do you sell the locomotives as kits or completely assembled? And what kind of price do you put on them? My backyard would accommodate a small 4-wheeled locomotive that would run on minimum radius curves, in an oval of 60 feet X 80 feet.
If you are really interested, it is listed on his website that is mentioned in the description section from this video. 👍
@@insAneTunA well, i probably couldnt afford one anyway, i am retired and live month-to-month on a measly pension.
I can't either. But it is still fun to watch. 👍@@paulsmith5398
@@insAneTunA i cant get on his website anyway, dont have a computer or internet, and my phone doesnt have enough memory to do online stuff.
You could buy a used car for the price of that train. It is 5K, and then you also need the rails and the sleepers and all the hardware and the gravel, and the tools to build and maintain the track and the engine. I estimate that just the hardware for a decent length of track is already a couple of thousand dollars.
I also watched some of the videos from the indoor electric model train enthusiasts, and some of those electric model trains can cost more than 3000 dollars as well. And that is just for the locomotive. And some folks even collect them. @@paulsmith5398
Hi Aaron. Is this ES-2-500 Number 3? Greets Wolfgang
This would be numbers 4, 5 and 6.
If I’m not mistaken, I have serial number 3.
Then I must have missed number 2.
@@wolfgangrimm9483 Number 2 is Mill Brook 71.
