- ATLANTIC OCEAN (Nov. 27, 2018) B-roll package aboard the future Virginia-class attack submarine USS South Dakota (SSN 790). Walking tour of crew spaces. (U.S. Air Force video from Senior Airman Jared Bunn/Released) 181127-F-JY979-602
Wow, I don't know how you all do it. Great video. You all rock! Former combat airborne infantryman here.
Thank you to all the men and women for your service!
WOW, I love it, thank you
My Grandfather served on this ship. 👍🏽🇺🇸👍🏽🇺🇸👍🏽
I thought it was just created?
Must mean the battleship from WW2.
Clay Maxon Correct!
@@joshault7163 it was....its in its first psa
They still put that old 1950s faded lime green paint and wood paneling inside
Dont forget the grey and white
US taxpayer dollars well spent! It's also good to see that the USS South Dakota crew is being fed excellent food and has very attractive sleeping accommodations as far as a submarine is concerned🛌
I served on that submarine during its construction. Millions of dollars were squandered.
Pre-comm unit is the first crew assigned, these guys will also be the ones on it's first sea trials and patrols...it's gonna be a lot more crowded once it's operational and underway
真是太棒了
Helloooo and thanks to all your crew from Yankton SD
As one who served on several 688s and 637s...yup they are louder in port and a heck of a lot more crowded....since this boat is being filmed in port it's probably got maybe half the crew onboard?
Spent 9 years in the Navy. I should have gone Subs. I was an aircraft maintainer, it was freaking horrible. Maintainers are not really part of any mission, they just support the mission. The entire squadron revolves around the pilots and their flight hours. I would never advise any enlisted to go aviation. It was like working at a corporation with all down bureaucracy and none of the benefits.
Can someone tell me: What is a "Pre-Commissioning Unit"? Who are the sailors involved? What do those sailors do once the sub is Commissioned?
PCU just means the ship has yet to finish initial testing and the navy hasn't officially acquired it. After testing, the commissioning ceremony is held, then the PCU becomes USS and the sailors carry on serving aboard the ship.
Здравствуйте, спасибо. Отлично и Замечательно: принципиально новый уровень сознания, организации и технологии. Интересно что швартовные концы обтягивали без перчаток (руки важно беречь). Извините
These submarine sailors are very impressive people. We need to put some style in their uniforms like the German U-boat sailors in WW2. When I was in the Army we always joked the WW2 German military had the best uniforms.
Quite roomy!
Welcome PCU South Dakota.
What a great boat and crew!
surprisingly loud inside for one of our latest and greatest attack subs. wonder if that was just a dockside thing.
No. They are quite noisy inside. It is a collection of operating machinery, all of which makes noise (including the hum of the high voltage electrical systems and constant whirring of fans). They are "quiet" because most of the sound is isolated from leaving the ship, through various means. After a while you don't even hear the noise unless it changes (which usually means there is a problem somewhere). My time was on 688 class boats, but these do not seem meaningful different in that regard
This is pretty cool. Few questions, some of them more real than others. First, why is everything in that submarine an ugly green colour? And I really do mean absolutely everything. Second, Why would you have random bits of cabinets that are wood? That seems out of place. Third, why are they all wearing gas masks? Fourth, If there was a fire on the submarine and it was still submerged, what would happen?
(i work for a company that builds these)
1)i dont know why they choose green but there are also grey and white
2) they arent actually wood its basically just a cover on top of sheet metal
3) the masks are for their fire drills
4) if there was a fire on board when they were submerged and couldnt control it i would assume they would surface the boat
Justin P that’s awesome to know! Thanks for telling me! How long does building one of these big subs take? Do you enjoy it?
Ya the green gets to you after a while. It is ugly. That is why they have the fake wood grain. Everything is either white, gray, green, fake wood, or bare metal (oh and linoleum). Some equipment is color coded by system or function. The masks are because they are doing a fire drill. What the ship would do if there was a fire would depend upon the size and location of the fire--the ship would not surface unless the fire could not be controlled or unless it endangered control of the ship.
@@rjmercer042 I guess it would make sense they're not throwing a marble countertop in there.
Submarines once, submarines twice...!!!
rey R holy jumping Jesus Christ.
Dylan Stanley this guy gets it!!!😆
Tenho pedido a Deus já a 16 anos que ele envie um anjo que possa ajudar me a entrar para a usnavy, sempre foi meu maior sonho trabalhar, em um porta aviões, faria qualquer trabalho, faxineiro, sapateiro, etc.
Bitchin!!!...🤙😎🤘
I wouldn't mind IDC if they'd let me
i thought subs were supposed to be quiet... that is loud AF
they are quiet from the outside perspective, and you also normally put things like distance and ambient ocean noise in the perspective, which leads to the conclusion of Virginia being a relatively quiet nuclear submarine, not to mention nuclear submarines are inevitably loud because you need to pump in water to keep the reactor cool (no, there's no radiation leak since the sea water doesn't contact the reactor directly, and radiation may give away submarine's location so that's out of the question even during the design phase)
Nub!
I THOUGHT US NAVY SAID : IT IS A SILENT NUCLEAR SUBMARINE ?
Submerge the ship.
