I get that comparison but it's more like F1. The difference is roller coasters are engineered for safety, whereas in bobsled your driver is in control, and anything short of precision can be lethal.
A roller coaster without the repetitive and redundant safety checks and no tracks and FAR more likely to cause a horrific accident, but otherwise yeah.
I know I’m 3 years late but still. This is for qualifying in America. So the process takes time. It may be a year or 2 until you get into a sled, but first step is try out or get recruited. You’ll probably want to do the prior unless your in the top 10% of sprinters and weigh near 200 lbs, but you’ll try out at a combine somewhere across the country. Consistently they are at the Olympic training centers, and then wait until you get contacted. If you are under 18 years old things will be very rough as there have only been two to qualify at that age and one to remain that age during training (Me 😊). You may need your legal guardian to contact the team for you (ONLY DO THIS IF YOU KNOW YOU QUALIFIED AT A COMBINE). So you qualified (HURRAY) you will eventually get an invite to a rookie camp or train with the team. You are now doing the sport. Oh wait you want to go to the Olympics. Here are the steps. Perfect your technique and try to take a spot on one of the 3 best teams in the nation. Compete and get familiar with the sport and its environment. If you make it to the World Cup (top level) you have almost a perfect chance of going to the Olympics. Hope this helps. sorry I’m late and how long it is.
I hope, I just hope that you're aware that, in this sport, only big guys are likely to win, partly because of them being tall, heavy and muscular. Weight goes downhill faster, doesn't it? There you are, the trick is exposed. 4 skinny guys take longer to slide downhill than 4 fat guys, yes? Right. The moment you see 4 tall, heavy and strong men, you will have to guess they will win by a margin. Plus, the lighter the sledge the less it takes to gain speed, even by a kilo in difference, if you catch what I mean.
A person could say in professional basketball only tall guys are likely to win. In every sport the physical advantages that can give a person a competitive edge are known. Those things are a given. I think we should give more attention to the skill in memorizing tracks, piloting, mastering the pushoff, navigating parts of the track with more or less friction, etc. The competitors are all heavy and strong what makes more of a difference is skill, luck, and how well funded their program is. The engineering behind the sleighs is a good point you made. Some countries can afford to have the best engineers design the most aerodynamic sleigh out of expensive materials. I think that's where merit as well as margins are in question.
@@Dim.g0v That may be true, but there have only been 25 NBA players less than the average height of all men, out of 4,374 of all time. That's barely half a percent. And NBA players aren't relying almost purely on simple physics for 95% of the time.
@@calvinnotklein6368 - Not the way it was seen in that video. Normally the slapping of butts might happen after you make a great play, not before you start playing. Maybe that guy just likes to touch a butt.
finisher3x Eh that’s debatable. It’s bobsledding. You really can only say you made a great play after EVERYTHING is over. Plus you know to just hype them up. I see it happen more in high school football anyways before the game.
@@calvinnotklein6368 - No way. I've never seen coaches or players smack each other on the butt before the game, in high school or any level. During the game and after great plays, yes.

That's the only thing that makes this worth watching

A deadly rollercoaster that you're in control of, yes
no there have been several fatalities durring the winter olympics bobsledding events. Theyre horrific to watch.
1000 times more dangerous

You first get into soapbox racing and join Olympics. If it’s Jamaica, it’s even better
The narration is bad. He is talking about the wrong teams as they go down the track. It ruins the video.
yes
Killed it for me..
Why is the audio so off
How far do they go in a run
Ahahaha the bloke with the Jamaican flag... legend 2:02
It helps that I rewatched cool runnings a few days prior to watching this 😂
That movie was the first time I ever saw black people (I grew up in Svalbard)

How did you manage to not line up the audio with the video?
Is it just me, or is the commentator not synched up with the sled going down?
There's at least one fat guy in each bobsled team. I guess their weight helps move the bobsled.

@Arne what skills do you improve to decrease your time?
aerodynamics, body physics - how to counter G forces and use them to your advantage. Very tiring sport

how is this a sport? it should be an amusement ride.
I'd suggest watching some gopro bobsled footage. It's much harder than it looks.
I agree. The only risks if you get it wrong is being paralyzed or death.
Never watched Cool Runnings I see.
Milford Cubicle bobsledding is hella hard.
Ain't that easy, the entire team needs coordination and weight control.
the winner should be the cameraman, its faster than the sled
😂😂😂😂
Saw the guy waving the Jamaican flag. I couldn't help but think about Cool Runners 😅
I can’t wait for women to finally be added as four team rather than just two team.
The guy in the back for Canada was buff as hell
