      Nice! I would strongly recommend redoing the wiring. Easier to do it while everything is out of the car. Good luck!

    Love the videos wondered if I sent over a couple of pics of some wiring plugs if you’d be able to help with what plugs into them. I’m repairing/restoring a 92 and ran into a few problems

    • @IconGarage
      @IconGarage  4 года назад

      Possibly. A lot of the connectors are similar. You can reach me on Instagram or Facebook if you want to send a message.

    Thanks for making the helpful video but on a side note I’m a little confused as to why the car has fender flares. After all, those kinds of flares would only be necessary if you were running 10 to 12 inch wide rims (and rims that wide of course would only be useful if you had at least twice the stock horsepower). Perhaps its just an illusion but it appears as if you are running standard 8 inch wide rims with the stock offset and that they are mounted on spacers to make them fill out the fender flares. Flares should be used to accommodate a necessary increase in wheel width and not the other way around. Of course maybe you are using much wider wheels on the track and then you switch to narrower rims with spacers when running on the street.

      The body kit and wheels were installed by the previous owner. I will eventually replace both the flares and wheels to get a proper fitment (no spacers). The wheels are Konig Dekagrams and if I recall the rears are 10.5” or 11” and the fronts are 9.5”. All in due time.

    Great video but you did leave out one bolt that I had to take out while doing mine, it’s in the middle of the vents on the top of the dashboard

    Are you using JIS screwdrivers? If not how are your Phillips working? I only learned about JIS screw heads recently so I'm wondering how much of an issue it is?

    • @IconGarage
      @IconGarage  5 лет назад +1

      I think they are standard philips drivers and I haven’t had any issues. If you know you have JIS screws, you will want to use a quality JIS driver. DIN could also work.

    Really good post, what do you think started the fire under the car?

    • @IconGarage
      @IconGarage  5 лет назад +2

      From what is left in the car, I can tell it started in the wiring harness on the transmission. The reverse switch or some other wire directly below the shifter location.

    What site will you be ordering the heat vents from. I've been looking for news ones for 6 months now. Nice job on repairing the FD.

      I think all my vents are fine. They are hard to find. Might try calling Ray Crowe or searching Facebook RX-7 groups.

    How many hours does it take to remove and reinstall a FD dashboard?

    • @IconGarage
      @IconGarage  3 года назад

      Depends on how much you already have out of the car (steering wheel, center console, seats, etc.) there are only about 9 bolts holding it in and a few electrical connectors each side. Also the cluster/hood and radio and all of the trim on the a pillar and footwell areas needs to come out. Assuming you are starting with a complete car, I’d guess maybe 2 hours conservatively to get it out doing it without help. Probably a little less going back in.

    • @haqq4260
      @haqq4260 3 года назад

      @@IconGarage ok, so 8 hours is more than enough time to remove FD dash and get it back in for an experienced repair shop?

    • @IconGarage
      @IconGarage  3 года назад

      I would think so. Unless they find something that needs to be addressed (bad wiring for example).

      @@IconGarage My heat doesn't work. They ran air pressure through the heating core and they say the core is not clogged. My car makes a little warm air but not hot. What do you think it is?

    • @IconGarage
      @IconGarage  3 года назад

      Hard to say, but it sounds like you either have slow water circulation through your system or bad thermostat
