- We're finding some incredible food in Madeira - unbelievable seafood, insane wood-fired grape chicken, and so much more!
Join us for the first part of our huge Madeira food tour. We're eating some insane garlicky squid, Salt Cod (bacalhau) with peppers, potatoes and olives, and Wood Fired GRAPE CHICKEN! I'd never heard of chicken with grape sauce before - I'd been seriously missing out!

I’m Madeiran and cooking with garlic, olive oil white wine and parsley is very much a Portuguese style. There are some things the French do which are similar to ours but that’s because we are both European countries with some similar food resources. However French cuisine is very much different from ours with some similar dishes that are a bit similar but not the same!

Portuguese cuisine have been and are underestimated and considering that Portuguese cuisine have influenced many dishes all over the world.
I travel and lived in different countries including Middle East; Portuguese cuisine continue to be my favorite.
Some Spanish are similar but with much grease, oil and I have trouble with my stomach with so much fat.

Great recommendations for Taberna Ruel! My wife and I just went there for our first dinner in Funchal and had the fish soup, the muscles, and the Cataplana. Excellent recommendations, especially since I don’t eat a lot of seafood! Cheers!
Recent reviews make the staff and management sound not very professional so I’ve been considering not going there this year.
Brits will never stop considering/calling aqatic molluscs and crustaceans fish.

The Barraca do bolo do caco obviously permanently closed down, at least according to Google. We were there today (19.05.2022) and the place is totally empty only the sign was still there.

There are council flats but they look nice in comparison to the ones in the UK!

lol, it is an acquired taste! A bit like marmite! Can’t stand marmite but I really like Bacalhau!
