    Mike, I recall that Del Monaco stated that Bastiannini sang so well because of his impeccable pronunciation.I adopted that vocal philosophy and I noticed that when I learned the song La Danza or Finch han dal vino, I would spend days just speaking the italian words very slowly and not singing.I fought the temptation to just try singing these fast pieces. By speaking slowly I would feel how the consonants would blend with the vowels and try to feel how the tongue and lips would work in tandem. I would speak these words until I felt a legato speech pattern without any bumps in the speech line. This was a tedious process that most singers would not want to be bothered with. Then when I would put the words to music I could sing at any tempo I wanted. Allegro tempo was no problem with La Danza or Finch Han dal vino. But if I tried to sing these pieces or a Tosti song without this prior preparation, I would force the sound. Also, I found this technique very helpful when I sang Mozart and Rossini that had lots of recitativo. Good that you have a great love for the art of singing. Also, i read your book and refer to it when I vocalize. Ciao Enrico Adriano

      I have read you comment and in my limited experience I am starting to feel the same. I started playing the guitar and with that instrument every time we want to learn a phrase a lick or whatever we are supposed to do it slowly and meticulously. And in singing I didn't pay attention at first thinking that flawless execution would come naturally, but now I realize that I have to stop and now even the easiest vocal Workout has become entertaining trying to achieve better technique. It is incredible how much finesse there has to be practiced

      I suppose that even for actors who are trained in the traditional way must practice there words slowly at first especially if they have to speak at a faster rate depending on the dialogue. So I think they same rule applies to dramatic actors and opera singers.

    I would love to show my gratitude to you Mr Trimble. This video made me understand how to use breath support , something I have been figuring out. It does help me with easing my neck tension and sing high notes easily and naturally! Really really thank you so much and hope you are doing well! Hope to see more new videos of you teaching the correct way to sing ! 🙏🏻

    It was a euphoric moment to receive your upload. We treasure you deeply and I pray that you and your loved ones stay well and safe. Thank you for the priceless knowledge and the joy you readily provide us with.
    I'm having endless vocal rest and it's tiresome. My voice has recovered after learning to speak and sing without hurting it but as of 2 days ago when I started phonating, there was a brief second when I phonated incorrectly as I ascended into an upper note and hurt my voice; I stopped immediately with terror and I have been silent since then and plan to maybe stay for a while, as that same day I had yelled but with no sign of vocal pain. I have no idea how long to rest my voice and if it's safe to sing even with such minor, brief malfunction, and the occasional yelling. How does a singer figure how much rest their voice needs when exhausted from a normal human day of speaking for instance?

    Speak the way you sing my Father always said. His speaking voice was always clear and resonant, same as his singing voice.
    Very impressive lesson here from the Master. Absolutely hits the nail on the head.

      I found your video after watching every video on problems with speech and how your vocal cords work and alot more .Your videos are so helpful .I have had a issue with my voice sense I was a kid .I'm 47 now and am looking for answers to my problem. My issue is I have a odd sound to my speaking voice .On the phone people think I am a women or if I go through a drive through they think I'm a women .But it's not just that but I dont know what it is or how to explain it. I'm sure your very busy ,but if you had the time and are interested could I send you a recording of my voice speaking .I feel like if you herd me just for 1 min you would know what's wrong with me .I've never seen a dr for it .I did read about Puberphonia but i dont know if that's how I sound .I did grow up in a very violent and stressful home. Best regards Christopher H.

      Michael Trimble thank you so much! It is I!!!!! After our lessons and reading your book, I went to a chiropractor just to know my status and ohhhhh boy!!!!! I was diagnosed Uppercross syndrome, anterior pelvic tilt, degenerative herniated disc, hyperlordosis, and subluxation of the neck (phase 1). It’s amazing because all this time, I thought I only had muscle tightness when in reality, it was a moderate muscle imbalance due to being misaligned for years. I was instructed to get adjustments twice a week for 3 months and then once a week thereafter. Just to let you know how stuck I was, I attempted Caruso’s 40 step walking/breathing exercise and LITERALLY passed out, hit my head, and had a concussion for about 3 days. It’s okay! I can get through about 4-5 reps now 15-20 mins. before I get dizzy. It’s not 1.5 hours but it is IMPROVEMENT!!!!!!
      Now, 1 year later, I can FINALLY feel my lower back muscles move East and west, when I breath deep enough, and I feel them squeeze together when I sing! Just MAGICAL! The image that comes to mind are gills or “bellows.” My husband likens my description of the power my chest holds to Ironman!!!!! 😂😂😂 I had no idea my body was so severely stuck. My teacher made mention of there being tightness and raised nature of my traps but never expressed that voice lessons were essentially pointless when parts of my vertebrae and hips were locked up which then causes the muscle to compensate.
      After a year of rehabilitation and yoga, I am finally feeling what you and other amazing singers have illustrated. I’m still not out of the woods. My large ribcage and large chest require me practice yoga, daily, and get adjustments weekly for at least another year. It is utterly AMAZING how the push I needed FOR YEARS, to become fit came when my instrument was compromised. It’s like what you stated in your book about Tebaldi, “the voice continued to grow more powerful ...but the breath capacity seemed more and more inadequate.” THIS IS MY EXPERIENCE! FINALLY, IN BLACK AND WHITE!!!! No more surmising! Tebaldi’s challenge along with my diagnosis cleared it all up for me.
      In case you’re wondering how a woman embarks on a body rehabilitation journey at only 30yrs. old, it is a life of endless school, long commutes, and birthing 4 angels 👼🏽👼🏽👼🏽👼🏽. At one point, I considered giving up the idea of singing professionally, on the world stage, because of how laborious it had become to sing a recital UNTIL I read this line from your book, “The abdomen will have no function at all in this method of breath control” (Trimble, pg. 32). WHHHHHAAAAAT!!!!!!?!! This breaking news COMPLETELY changed my life. The whole section about eliminating belly breathing and noting the back-breathing method pregnant woman have to resort to resonated with me. No one understood why I sounded my best each and every time I was in my last trimester. I never understood it myself!
      So in a beautiful way, your wisdom guided me down a path of self discovery and discipline. There is NO WAY I could contend with working out 1-3 times a week for 30mins-1 hour when one of the greatest singers of all time subjected himself to strenuous respiratory conditioning for 1.5hrs. DAILY and regardless of weather conditions. I finally have an image in my head of what is necessary to be great. Caballé acted as a model as well regarding her 80 seconds inhalation comment/requirement. Now I know how to train; “Train the body and the mind will follow.”
      I can’t thank you enough for all of your wisdom! We have a joke in our house. Whenever I am resting in my favorite room in our house (sunroom) in my favorite large papasan, my husband asks if I read my bible today. He is referring to your book 😂😂😂. I surly hope this Covid-19 thing disappear sooner rather than later. I want to show you and Ms. Pam what I got!!!!! #ShakeTheWalls. 😘😘😘😘😘😘 Ps. My King Dancer still needs A LOT of work! 😂😂 CHAIO

    What is the title of Caruso's book, Mr. Trimble?

    • @Fidelio79
      @Fidelio79 4 года назад

      Michael Trimble Pulling in the abdomen or jerking in the abdomen during the inspiration was a method criticised because it raise the diaphragm muscle. The voice became “gonfiando” with this method. I prefer to not move the belly neither in or out during the breath in the air. This keep the larynx in a neutral position with more agility on high notes. The “jerk in” tehnique is not suitable for everybody. “belly out” breathing is bad too. Maybe I’m wrong or I did not understand correctly the pull in abdomen tehnique you promote.
