  • As far as Day 1 of Early Access is concerned, Songs of Silence is pretty darn good. By blending classic fantasy 4X genre tropes with interesting auto-battling/deckbuilding RTS combat, the game manages to stand out. Oh, and its gorgeous Art Nouveau style doesn't hurt.
    As always, I hope you enjoy this short (yet detailed!) spoiler-free review :)

    The retail price is $39.99 so is it still worth buying?

    • @MEGAthemicro
      @MEGAthemicro  2 месяца назад +11

      Great question! For anyone confused, Songs of Silence did not post its price until it released, which was after I posted this review. I expected the game to retail around $30, and I think $40 is a little bit more than what the game is currently worth (given current campaign length and residual bugs). Still, it's a good time and will likely add campaign missions throughout Early Access, so it's up to the buyer.

      absolutely not imo, its a glorified idle mobile game.
      sad bc i wanted it, money isnt a issue but why would i ever give them that much for thAt when i could buy something of infinitely more value.... like someone needs to get back to reality lol... i mean heck i literally bought a $8 game just last night that is FAR more bang for its buck.... or alternatively i just play pokerogue which is literally free and i have 10 days in game hours played already.

      For an indie strategy title just released in early access with limited content, lack of police, and a few bugs... I would say a definite no. I'll be keeping an eye on it though.

    I only heard about this game a few days ago and grabbed the demo to check it out because it looked great. I really enjoyed the combat and the designs. But I know in reality, I have a terrible time finishing 4X games. And I'm kind of surprised it costs as much as it does in early access. I feel like by the time it hits 1.0 they're going to be knocking on a AAA price point.

    • @MEGAthemicro
      @MEGAthemicro  2 месяца назад

      The price is definitely a surprise. I thought it'd start at $30 and bump up to $40 by full release, as seems to be the case for most AA 4Xs. Then again, I liked this game more than most of its genre peers...
      As for finishing 4Xs, I think SoS is pretty digestible and each story mission took me under three hours. Not sure about full multiplayer games, though.

    @MEGA the micro the devs have announced a big update coming out continuing the campaign as well as adding new characters and other content. Would be great to hear what you think about it when it comes out. Also there's been a lot of smaller QoL updates since this review, one great one is that you can turn up the game speed in battles for those that are a foregone conclusion.

    • @MEGAthemicro
      @MEGAthemicro  Месяц назад +1

      That's very exciting, thanks for letting me know! My review (and personal) calendar is pretty stuffed right now, but I will definitely be diving back into SOS closer to 1.0 once more campaign content comes out. I did get a chance to try out the revised battle UI update and the ability to speed things up is a tremendous QoL improvement.

    Definitely getting this. I love that people argue value for EA Indie games. If I like the idea of an EA game then I’m more than happy to pay a price that is reflective of the final end product. Hades 2 and Witchfire are good examples of value on opposite ends of the spectrum. Hades 2 was instantly great value and Witchfire wasn’t yet I’m equally glad about having paid full price for them. That said watching seemingly broke people argue why something should be $30 or $40 is pretty hilarious considering they’re probably adults who’re past their 30s

    • @MEGAthemicro
      @MEGAthemicro  22 дня назад

      That's an interesting perspective! You're right that in real life, the difference between $30 and $40 is trivial... and yet, video games have such neatly defined price structuring that there are often dramatically different expectations for games priced just $10 apart. It's a weird little (massive) industry.

    I'd not call it an evolution.
    Evolution would be a full-on nation simulation, 100 hours per session. This is more like a snippet game.

    • @MEGAthemicro
      @MEGAthemicro  2 месяца назад +1

      Isn't what you described just Civilization? If anything, I'd argue the genre could benefit from moving toward smaller, shorter, story-driven missions like SoS offers.

    • @qasderfful
      @qasderfful 2 месяца назад

      @@MEGAthemicro if you argue that, I'd argue you don't really like the genre.
      Civ is too boardgame-like. It's the current stage of 4X. The evolution would be to move away from boardgames and into a simulation territory.
      If anything, Songs of Silence is a devolution, moving back closer to boardgames.
