Gotta give it to Poseidon, even after getting both his arms cut of and having his abdomen sliced to pieces he refused to allow for even the slightest bit of humbleness to sprout. Dude was fully committed to his own arrogance.
its really ironic because in Kojiro's backstory after he loses his weapon in his first fight he surrenders and his senior tells him that surrender is for cowards and a real warrior would fight with his sword and if he loses it he uses his fists and if they get cut off he should use his teeth which is exactly what Poseidon does and loses. its really cool to see that his "loser" mentality allowed him to kill a god that followed a warriors mentality

He has a mastery of the knowledge of losing in general. He can envision and foresee each of his own movements and predict the ways in which he loses each clash. He understands the realistic consequences of his actions and, as a result, practically looks into his own future to find every instance where he doesn't lose even by the slimmest thread of life. Defeat is like a maze that he's so familiar with that he can navigate it until it brings him to the ultimate victory. Very true. Its quite similar to the rabbit vs turtle too. The rabbit is incredibly talented in running and sprinting however at the point of the story, he stopped working hard halfway and chilled. The turtle, on the other hand, had no talent in running but he was determined to finish it despite the odds against him with a faster foe and so he was rewarded for his perseverance winning the race. You might say, the turtle didnt win, the rabbit just let him. Thats exactly the point. He "stopped" working hard at what he was best in doing. He has lost more battles than even a god has fought, and that is why he was victorious. He lost that battle a hundred times before defeating Poseidon, but it was enough.

Kojiro's victory was so memorable bcos of how intimitdating the show made Poseidon look like, and how Kojiro is literally an actual man that doesn't hv crazy powers like adam and is purely from training. Also it certainly was satisfying to see a win after 2 continuous defeats T.T
Poseidon believed gods were perfect, and that's why he killed his older brother, who he saw act no different from a human. Poseidon was the most arrogant of the gods. And thus was the first to fall to humanity. Said human was none other than humanity's greatest loser. A truly fitting death for Poseidon.
“The truth of the matter is I despise perfection. If something is truly perfect, that’s it. The bottom line becomes, there is no room for imagination, no space for intelligence or ability or improvement. Always strive to be better than what came before you but not perfect.” - Mayuri Kurotsuchi
One of the things I like most about Kojiro's fight is literally how it began. The fact that he's aware enough to gauge Poseidon's capabilities (a freaking god) feels like it was meant to show just how many people he had lost to, that gauging their power level just comes as second nature to him.
IKR? like "Damn, i won't celebrate until the next fight begins.....this MUST be a predict run where he emerged victorious.....DON'T HYPE ME DAMN ANIME" Then he won, and i let out a loud and happy curse.

"There's just no fucking way that I'm losing to a guy that's never even considered the hopes and dreams of others" Sasaki Kojiro
In real life, Kojiro was one of the samurais GOATS: his only loss was against Musashi Myamoto himself, the actual inventor of the Niten Ryu style, while he was the Ganryu's inventor.
The funny part is that Kojiro doesn't lose for having less skill or speed than his rival, he lost because Musashi piss him off for arriving late to the duel, having sun in front of him and being hit with a rowing of 6'5 long in the head
Bruh, I’m so proud of Kojiro because all his life he never won but this time he finally got a win! And it’s not just a simple win but he won by defeating a god! His back story is inspirational af because despite all of his failures he learns from them and become greater. Salute Kojiro!
If you know more, can you clear my mind? After watching the anime, I wished to know more about Sakaki Kojiro. And some sources say he has won all but one battle (the final one, against Miyamoto Musashi in 1612), some say he has lost all of them, but always was on a brink of victory. So, which version is the "more canon" one?
Poseidon loses for two reasons 1.He never goes full in because he consideres humans trash and thus never realises that he could die until it happens 2.Plot armor for japanese character
i think its ironically funny that poseidon has an attack named after Medusa, considering that her whole story its how she lost everything she ever had because Poseidon lost a contest to Athena and was petty about it. For those who don't know, there's a story about how Athena and Poseidon wanted to put their name into a recently built city and had a contest to see who would have the city's name, and if you google it, will see that we have a greek city called Athens, but not one called Poseidns. Poseidon took the loss but he'll remember it (Until dawn's buttlerflys pops in). Athens had a temple to worships Athena and had 3 priestess to do it, one being Medusa. The 3 priestess swore to remain pure and always remember to give offerings to the temple. Medusa was said to be a beautiful lady that seduced every man that saw her, but she kept her oath. Something that Poseidon knew, and gladly ignored, as he forced her to do what you probably are thinking right now, and to put more salt in the injury, it was inside the temple. As soons as Athena knew what happened, she went unga bunga overkill on Medusa, as she didn't knew *who* did it with Medusa. Medusa tried to explain herself, but being a crush to every single man that ever saw her in the city didn't helped her, and resulted in Medusa being cursed by Athena, being transformed into the form myths and fantasy stories/games always use, so no one could ever have a crush on her, and if they ever do, they would become stone. Yes... greek mythology is really cursed sometimes. And it gets more cursed after. After Perseus' story (about how him cut down Medusa's head), Medusa's body gave birth to Poseidon's child... but because Poseidon is the god of the seas AND of the horses, the child that came to life was the hippocampus, the aquatic horse commonly related to Poseidon (the same one you fight at the start of God of war 3)
Actually the "curse" was a blessing I'm disguise. Athena is one of the two only relevant goddesses in Olympus (the other being Aphrodite), every other god in the major "council" are men, being complete jerks and misogynists they wanted Medusa to be punished for this (despite being the victim of sa/r, and all the other gods sided with Poseidon anyways as they saw themselves as perfect no matter how evil their deeds are), so Athena had "cursed" Medusa as a punishment, Medusa's beautiful hair would turn to venomous snakes and in most depictions of this tale say that she would have a snakes body waist down. She was still gorgeous (that's why is so easy to turn soooooo many men into stone, bc she's still a hottie). And the ability to turn men into stone, Athena ensured only males could be turned to stone while placing the spell and is allegedly bound to a certain area, presumed to be an eternal prison (but in truth a sanctuary for Medusa; albeit she supposedly can't leave, but why would she, she believes her curse makes her a monster and she probably doesn't want to return to society, after all it was the world of men, excluding a few places such as Sparta and etc.). Regardless, for fame and glory men, soldiers bandits, just men in general have trespassed into her domain, attempting to kill her as she was hailed an absolute monster amongst the Greeks and or romans. All these men were either turned to stone by her gaze or slain by her as she gradually learned and gained more skill AND power as she fought to protect herself. So never assume Medusa was cursed by Athena, Athena is the goddess of wisdom, she outsmarted the other gods, as why would she punish one of her most faithful followers in a situation in which she was the victim. Oh and ageless immortality was another feature to her "curse". After all, how could she survive in a remote area without little or no game to hunt or bountiful fruit. In conclusion, Athena gifted Medusa in the disguise of a "curse" right under all the other gods' noses. And imagine the possibility that several women went to Medusa's domain seeking refuge/sanctuary or just a place in which men can do whatever they please just bc they can?
@@niteshadeshimonzu3305 Yeah listen, that's a nice theory and all, but in the original story of medusa she was just born a monster, the whole, Poseidon and Athena thing was just one version made by a guy that wanted the gods to look bad because he hated the current depictions of the deities as perfect beings
Sasaki kojiro in actual lore : *went toe and toe against musasi* Sasaki kojiro in Fgo : *beat the shit out of god while being 1 star servant* Sasaki kojiro in Ragnarok : *beat poseidon* Regend will be Regend no matter what
One of my favorite details about this fight: They say humans don't know the depths of the ocean, the depths of Poseidon's power. Sasaki reaches the depths, he reaches the bottom below the bottom that he thought didn't exist and when he did, he clutched victory through and won. He touched what no other human had through all of his losses
I really don't like how they toned down Poseidons lines. As an example when Kojiro kills him and he calls him a loser in the manga he says "You insignificant piece of shit" or something similar. It went from Poseidon being arrogant to the bitter end to him just seeming like some angry whiny kid who runs away from a playground
Actually, the line is the same. 「雑魚が (zako ga)」meaning “weakling” and this is considered one of the most insulting ways of saying it. So much that it is used online today commonly by trolls as a “gitgud” sort of taunt. So it’s really a translation thing here.
@@nachiepalacio9966 that's pretty nuts. Maybe a studio know for doing shojo shouldn't have taken a job adapting a fight manga, it's pretty obvious that the executives at Graphica are at fault, they shouldn't have taken the job and the animators paid the price

@@manganerd_69 it was actually a show of pride and arrogance. If Poseidon wasn't as arrogant as he was Kojiro would have lost. We all would be upset if we needed to go overboard to kill an insect. Plus when Kojiro insulted his ideology of what Gods are he wanted to humiliate and break him which is why he speed blitzed him just to stand behind him rather than cut him down.

A fine homage to an underrated warrior. If legends are to be believed, then Musashi won against Kojiro not by skill of his swordplay, but by using the sun to blind him and bashing in his skull.
Say what you want, but that's called strategy, a win is a win. Using your environment in favor to you is a skill on its own. And you are a fool if you believe Musashi swordplay is inferior to Sasaki
I love the symbolism of the way he cuts Poseidon's hair with tsubame gaeshi. He removes the physical barrier blocking Poseidon's line of sight, as if to say, "oh, I will make you look me in the eyes, and *I can* ."
The whole manga is just a big Tournament arc. Yeah I think it's hard to fit the flashback outside of the fight. Though I definitely love a fight without a speech or shouting the name of the attack they use.
I feel like in manga, its handled way better since its only to explain character and ability but not every single punch, plus the animation slows down the pace.
@@rjayp5843 same I was pretty mad that he lost to Thor but it’s reasonable but Adam had a busted ability and he was putting in work. Adam being the one and then winning the first human fight would’ve been perfect
I've realized that the human champions all have dominant themes. 1. Strength (examples Raiden and Lu Bu) - champions with this dominant strength use none other than brute strength to try to defeat the gods and whilst they have been close to defeating them they've never won. I haven't seen Tesla v Beelzebub but if Tesla has this dominant theme I suspect he will also lose. 2. Misfortune (Sasaki and Jack the Ripper) - those champions who's past and present are dominated by misfortune tend to overcome them when fighting the gods and defeat them. So far this theme has the greatest chances of victory. 3. Patriarch (Adam, Qin Shi Huang, Buddha) - I may be using the wrong term but these are the champions who are considered to represent all of humanity or the best of humanity. It's not as good a theme as misfortune but generally has positive results. Really love this anime/manga!
"Patriarch" could be called "Leadership" or maybe "Charisma" Adam (Father of Humanity), Buddha (Nepalan's Prince and founder of Buddhism) and Huang (First Emperor of China) all were "leaders" in some sense - wise, charismatic and respected even millennias after thier demises.

Notice that Poseidon is feared by the other gods and was cut down by a human, this is why the other gods became angered and couldn't accept the defeat.
When a gods understimate mandkind, that was the moment he/she will lose (every god before poseidon never understimate their opponent and fight with their full power). Poseidon already understimate sasaki and that's why he lose
Neither Zeus or Thor fought their opponents with their full power at first. They completely looked down on their opponent just like Poseidon. The difference was as soon as Thor and Zeus recognized their opponents strength they stopped looking down on them and fought them seriously. Poseidon looked down on Sasaki the entire fight and never fought him seriously only seeing him as a pathetic ant before him.

i think its ironically funny that poseidon has an attack named after Medusa, considering that her whole story its how she lost everything she ever had because Poseidon lost a contest to Athena and was petty about it.
He named one for demeter as well (he just fucked up everything with them) an
It wasn't the hippocampus that was just one of the creatures under posidon's domain, it was pegasus and chrysoar that came from her
Actually the "curse" was a blessing I'm disguise.
@@niteshadeshimonzu3305
Yeah listen, that's a nice theory and all, but in the original story of medusa she was just born a monster, the whole, Poseidon and Athena thing was just one version made by a guy that wanted the gods to look bad because he hated the current depictions of the deities as perfect beings

@@Mr-Opium True but I think Adam's lost served the purpose of raising humanity together. As they saw the perfect embodiment of a human.
