I expected a nurse to come in at any moment, give them their pills, and say something like how it's good to see them socializing, but they need to not get too excited at their age. I love Larry King, but he looks like a mummy and his greatest asset as an interviewer is that he mostly gets out of the way and doesn't put too much of himself in the way of the interviewee.

Tom kind of sounds shell shocked about his old pranks. I loved his old pranks. I wonder who or what pushed him into not liking them. And it is completely true what he is saying. When you're in your teens and twenties you feel like invincible and nothing terrible will happen. But when you are in your thirties fourties fifties you develop a kind of mild ptsd. You're more aware of the dangers around you. But you're also more in control of yourself. It's a very weird thing. You get cautious and a certain kind of anxiety takes place of an older anxiety that goes away.
I think it was a perfect storm for him in the time after he survived cancer--his show was cut from MTV, and his marriage ended with Drew Barrymore. I wasn't paying attention to it at the time, but I think the media turned on him. He wrote a book about it called "Hollywood Causes Cancer," which I definitely plan to read at some point.
