I appreciate this information. My 8 month old does the step crawl most of the time but he also does the traditional crawl. There is another video on RUclips that states if your child step crawls it is signs of developmental delay and it is because the child did not encounter enough tummy time. I’m so glad I located your video to put my mind at ease.

Thank you for this! Very reassuring. My little one army crawls with both legs opposite hand and opposite foot. He goes so fast. And he will occasionally get on all 4 to rock back and forth when he wants to dance. 😂
He is 11 months old. I was getting concerned. But this is very helpful. Amazing how in a few years some of these mom fears will be a distant memory.

Dear Emma, i wanna thank you so much for this video! Because it's really gives me a peace of mind🙏
In our culture most pediatrician insists that the baby should fist start crawling Army style and then only move to the traditional all four way. And all other formats of crawling are the deviation. Plus if a baby is not crawling by 6 months he is delayed in development.
And this makes so many parents including me to worry and go see different doctors.
But deep inside i do believe that all these ways are acceptable as long as baby learns moving

I know it’s something all babies do but honestly I’m in awe with my baby daughter’s progress! 😂
My baby’s 5.5 months and she does a weird combination of army and inch warm crawling whereby her tummy & legs stay almost completely in completely in contact with floor but she also bring the one knee slightly to the side of her body and use her legs to advance together with her arms (she looks kind of like she’s wiggling side to side when crawling).

@@sapnaaadyavlogs9106 hi friend! Yes, my little one is cautious and it took her a little while to transition towards different forms of movement. When she was around a year old, she began trying to stand more (assisted and unassisted, especially pulling herself to stand). Just a little after her first birthday, she began cruising (very tentatively taking steps while holding on to furniture). Around 14 months, we bought her a push-cart (a balancing toy with wheels where she could walk around while pushing the cart). She took her first unassisted steps by herself a little after 14 months, but she didn’t really transition to walking as her main way of moving around until a little after 15 months. She is now 20 months old and is starting to run.

I’m so glad you described this! My second is doing this. He was never a fan of tummy time & would always just try to go to sleep instead. Now he is about to be 8 months. His crawling style is very much what you’ve described, pivoting on his tummy, pushing off with his toes more than planting/pulling his hands. He’s become quite speedy and efficient! I’ve been giving him more tummy time at home and I know they are at daycare as well.

    • @krystaltia560

My understanding is that they should be completely barefoot around home until they’ve mastered walking. As they are learning to walk the shape of their foot is changing/developing. Shoes can really hinder that process.

    • @Alabanza.Musicversity
      @Alabanza.Musicversity 2 года назад

From my research in early childhood development, shoes should be avoided at all cost especially when walking. Besides, there are soooo many brain and body benefits to being barefoot no matter what age but especially for babies who get feedback from their feet in sensory exploration.
Loads of research to be found out there on being benefits of being barefoot, especially on grass, wood or soil/sand for grounding.

My little one experiments with different forms of mobility:
Bum shuffle, roll, army crawl, and crusing.
However he doesn't pivot much when on his tummy. He prefers sitting and reach out/leaning to work for toys, or rolling, or launching himself forward from a sitting position. Should I be concerned that he doesn't pivot much?
Also, how do babies who cruise eventually move into pulling into a kneeling or standing position, and how can I help facilitate this without causing him to refuse sitting/tummy time?
My worry is that since he hasnt been a fan of tummy time since sitting up, he doesn't really do 'transitional movements'.
Note: if he's sitting on my leg with his knees at a right angle, he can stand up.

Hi @Rochi S so pleased to hear your finding the videos helpful. Also great work on buying and adjustable foot rest for the high chair.
If your bub is nearly sitting up then I find supporting them into sitting in a stroller is great. I generally place rolled up towels at the side of their trunk to keep them upright as they tend to fall to the side because the strollers are too big initially.

My 8 month old was using the rolling method to get to things just before turning 6months. She stopped and is now doing a combo of pivoting, pushing herself up onto her forearms (sometimes she can do it sometimes she can’t), army crawling, pushing herself backwards and trying to pull herself up. I’m assuming this is normal. It’s like she had something mastered and then she forgot and is now trying to master multiple things at once.

So is step crawl the same as three legged? They are okay? I heard it’s important to get babies to do symmetrical crawling though so when should I worry if three legged is all my baby prefers? Granted, he pulls up wonderfully and walks with assistant just fine.

Is the rolling crawl actually considered a true “crawling” style or is it just being able to roll both ways (not crawling yet)?
My baby’s doctor considers it a gross motor delay as my 9 month child is also not yet pulling up to stand or going from lying on tummy/back to sitting. My baby does do the aeroplane/swimming, pushing to extended arms and pivoting though.
Baby’s been rolling around from one side of the room to the other for ages (since about 7 months), but I’m concerned whether that’s considered crawling or not. Any help or resources would be appreciated!

Our second son crawled after he walked for the sake of playing with some toys. He did get around, he sat and he’d scoot backwards or he’d roll.

How would you help a baby crawling who's left radius bone ia missing aswell his left humeral head is missing? Trying to figure out a safe way to help him crawling, his elbow is stiff so his left arm is straight with limited bending but not intentional as he can't bend it for himself and his wrist is rotated inward. Therefore the traditional tummy time is not working for him, we have to use a pad underneath his left shoulder /chest for tummy time to get to the same level with his right arm. Is there any safe way to support his development for crawling?

So for the most part my 7 month old uses the rolling crawl. Today though at church he saw a toy about 4ft away and he kept his hands and arms underneath his chest and pushed forward. He kept moving his hands back under his chest until he reached the toy. He has done this at home, but only a few inches at a time. But now he did it about 4ft. What kind of crawl is that?

    Hi Emma
Please advise me. My little one is 9 months. She is sitting and is able to get from tummy to back and then sitting. She is not crawling.. my pediatrician referred her for physiotherapy because she is not using her left leg as much as right.
She hates tummy time so I suspected that delayed her a bit but even the physio said she thinks there are developmental delays and has referred me to OT.
Physio said she is concerned about possible CP. Where can I find reliable info on CP. How to identify it in a 9 month and how to move forward and give baby all the support she needs.
I unfortunately live in a 3rd world country so access to professionals is not so easy especially for infants.
    Pls help if you can.

My daughter started crawling incredibly early but I’m wondering how to help her explore as well as ways to ease my anxiety about it. I have really really bad postpartum anxiety as well as just general anxiety disorder so her crawling is great but at the same time I want her to be able to explore without me being a helicopter mom. She is very random with milestones. She started pivoting and scooting around five months and then at exactly 6 months started crawling.

Hi Emma, amazing video as always. My baby is 1 yo now and he used to crawl symmetrically. But in the last 2 months he started crawling with the right foot and the left knee on the ground - basically pulling with the right leg and just bringing the left one. Always on one side. And I notice more and more assymetrical movements, like going up and down the stairs always with the same leg etc. What should I do about it?

Kind of relieved rolling counts as crawling. Princess started rolling around 11m, corrected -1m. After the Beta-blocker therapy for a hemangioma stopped, she's even more energetic. Does the pivot and gets her bottom up when laying on her back (type: bridge) and recently on her belly (4 points). :-) but has fun rolling quickly and stretching her legs up.
Yet, I feel guilty, I let her down or hold her back. though, it might be she just needed more time.

Why does my 4 month baby crawl by putting pressure on his head? Sunks his head to the ground, lift his butts, and push his legs so all of his body moves forward? Bit like caterpillar. Is this normal? What should I encourage to him to do the army crawl or the worm one?

My son is 7 months and I think he’s gonna do the bear crawl like I did when I was a baby but he doesn’t lift his head up and yells at the floor or bed wherever he is crawling.
Is there a trick or tips to help him learn to lift use his arms? Or will he eventually pick up on it as he gets stronger

This is very interesting I love your videos. My almost 11 month old isn’t interested in crawling, he does move about from one place to another in his bottom somehow 🤷🏻‍♀️ but not all babies crawl I guess. My son was born 3 1/2 weeks prematurely, would that make a difference? My daughter di isn’t, she just went straight to walking.

    • @EmmaHubbard

HI @FitAussieAngie and @asnaz Azlak great question. Being born early does not mean the baby is definitely going to be behind or bottom shuffle but they are at higher risk of having developmental delays and medical complication at birth.
@FitAussieAngie it sounds like your little one is progressing with is lovely (based on your comments in the last few videos) and great that he is bottom shuffling around.

    • @Flipper86
      @Flipper86 3 года назад

Will likely need to consult a doctor about plagiocephaly. @ 6 months you’ll want to do it soon. Also try not to leave baby on his/her back when not sleeping. Limit use of car seat or reclined position (bouncy seat, etc.). You can prop baby in the corner of a laundry basket as an inexpensive way of supported sitting (it also keeps toys mostly in reach to reduce frustration) and encourage tummy time.
