I know of a couple who gets their Sons(3 and 4 yrs.) prospecting for gems here in Australia. They are so at home picking rocks and showing me what they are and how to look for them. For over a year now, their parents got them watching youtube videos of how to find gems. I'm sure in a few years time, they'll teach me a trick or 2. LOL Good idea to start them young. They become more involve and passionate about prospecting when they get older. Good ex. is my hubby. Good luck and wish you the best.
+Ty N .....I'm glad you get my style of videoing. All my prospecting videos that I've posted are as I see it for the first time as well. That way, I can take you with me when I'm prospecting. Thanks for commenting and all the very best, Liz
Glad the videos gave you some inspiration. We haven't been to the Gippsland area so i can't give you any info on that region. Good luck on your trip. All the best, Liz
Sorry Brayden but I'm from Australia and never been to the States. But I had a quick look on the net and found that there's actually a lot of areas in Utah that have gems and minerals. As far as access is concern, maybe you can try ringing up tour guiding/prospecting tours in specific location. Good luck!
I find that when I am searching for Lady's Slipper flowers, (don't pick them) I may not see any at all for hours, or days but then finally one pops into view and next thing I know they just start popping out all over the place! Right under my nose the whole time?! I know this is a sort of geology video, but I am hoping that those who love and respect mother nature will enjoy my little story. Mother nature's gifts of beauty and wonder and amazement are everywhere!
This always puzzles me too. Most of the time just like you, we would be parked right on top of the gems. So i take advantage of this and always look first at the ground we're park in.
My yard is loaded with quartz, around trees look like that especially the stump in my back yard. Found a clear pointer yesterday. I think I do like the dirt seeming like it's full of these white rocks when i was planting veggies. Thanks for sharing
I can tell you really enjoy being out and about. I have been fortunate to have areas around me here in so cal where agate and geodes abound. I too am at peace when in the field, or in my small workshop where I create gemstones from rough-looking rocks. I have come to love watching you and Wal "noodling" araround Australia, and watch your vids again and again. Please don't judge me by the photo that accompanies this post as I don't know how to change it. ..lol. peaceandlove.
I know this was a year ago but assuming you're still in SoCal where might this location be? I'm also in SoCal and I'm looking to do some rockhounding of my own
HEY Spec.Explor! I'm so. cal, there is jade, agates, jaspers, and quartz on the beaches.( almost all), If you could get to Acton ca, an hr North of l.a. taking the i-5 North, to the 14 north to crown valley road offramp, go right, pass the park, and the hills ABOUND IN AGATES AND MOSS AGATE, GEODES,and beautiful quartz crystal. They just literally litter the hillside above Escondido canyon road. also, the Malibu hills, off the 101, and kanan road, past the jack in the box, about mile 1. I live in the san Fernando valley, so I go to all these places. Acton is by far the easiest pickings, and my favorite. Good luck, take water, and have fun. Text me if you go, and maybe I'll meet you there.
Definitely a ways up from where I am but completely worth the drive when I can spare the time! Thanks so much for the quick response, I've been a long time fan of collecting minerals and gems but now I want to try my hand at finding my own specimen
Right now I'm deciding between two locations, Cascade Canyon which is closer to me and Escondido which is further. What're the usual sizes of the quartz you find there?
Your enthusiasm and pleasure is delightful and I easily identify with your enjoyment. You mention cleaning up your crystals frequently may I ask how you go about doing this because I am finding my febal attempts to be underwhelming at best. Thank you I look forward to watching more of your videos 😇
Gorgeous!!! I wish we had somewhere that amazing here! I live in New York in a smaller city and I love collecting rocks, crystals, shells, sharks teeth, fossils, etc.... I have three little ones I am trying to get into collecting as well. My two year old son and I have been watching your videos together!!
Thanks for the comment scourtney. It's a great hobby to be involve in. The only bad part is that, it can be quite addictive. I always believe that one doesn't find the gems/crystals. They find you. So I'd say that they do have some sort of energy in them.
Thanks Liz, for your videos. You found some nice quartz crystals. Nice color. I would love to go prospecting however in Florida USA there isn't anything to be found.
+Grace Cheecks Thanks for watching Grace. Some countries do have areas where you can pay to prospect and some have areas where it's free. You'll have to do a little bit of research in your particular area as to where you can dig up/prospect for crystals. Good luck and wish you all the very best....Liz
+Melissa Newcomb Thanks for watching Melissa. Below is a video on how I clean my crystals and geodes go through the same process. Cheers, Liz Cleaning Crystals | Liz Kreate

I would love to go to your country one day collecting rocks. You pretty well have all the gemstones we have but only need to research which regions they occur in......keep your rock collection growing and thanks again for watching.
You are most welcome ThothMer. We are fortunate that Australia have a lot of gems and that most places are still open to the public to prospect. Thanks for your comment and wish you all the best.
Hi Liz, I have really enjoyed your videos. I live in cockatoo Victoria and was wondering if it is ok to fossick anywhere or do you have to search for permitted areas? Thanks Valezka
Valezka MacDonald Hi Valezka, There are designated areas for fossicking and in Victoria, one will need a permit to do so. Please check online or your nearest information center near you. Cheers, Liz

hey Liz, we live relativity close to Mooralla and in the coming holidays we were hoping to do some digging for those beautiful crystals and we were wondering if you had any preferred places to dig? thanks!
+Varrock Obama Thanks for watching. I find that in Mooralla, the deeper you go the better the pieces you're going to get. Good luck, stay safe and happy hunting. Cheers, Liz
Thanks for the kind comment and if I had more research time available, I would take you up on the kind offer. All the very best and hope you find many crystals...Liz
Thanks for the video Liz. I've always wanted to go searching for Geodes since I've loved them since I was a child.. Unfortunately there aren't many decent digs here in Colorado. Guess I'll have to visit Australia. Do you find other colors beside the Smokey Quartz? I'd love to see a video of those also. Cheers... ;)
@@LizKreate First a plea.. Liz, Please help me complete one of my bucket-list Items. I have small wants for the most part and a great geode hunt is one of them. I've been to a few galleries and exhibitions that show incredible examples geodes. My fav was one that was about 3 1/2 feet high, aprox 10-12 inches deep, 2224-36 inches wide, semi-oval in shape and the entire inner "eggs" was full of crystals that had a deep purple color to them, lightening up to a lite blue on the very tips of the crystals! I must have stood there for 30 minutes examining this "geode". Amazing doesn't even come close to describing it. I'll have to see if I can find it and post a link to it here. Of course there were also many other awesome examples, but the one I describe left a lasting impression on me, especially since I last saw it aprox 35 years ago!!! The one geode I have is about the size of a hardball baseball Cut in half it's solid and you see a Deep blue in color starting from the inside and then some Lighter (almost withe) thin rings as you get to the center, where there a light center with a small indentation. Like there could be some crystal formations deeper into the "Egg". This is one of a VERY FEW things that I have from my childhood (given the geode at age 12). If you know of any places in Colorado or another State that is within a back and forth daily trip. Heck, maybe even an overnight stay or two if it's a totally awesome spot to see some great examples and maybe keep a couple to add to my very small collection (1). Would love to have one with a strong and long crystalline structure, along with some great color, like red or purple, or heck, any color.. ;)
Jude, if you watch my prospecting videos, take note on the start of the video as far as locations are concerned for i do show where it is. On this video for example, the name "Mooralla" is a place in Victoria where these crystals can be found. Then, go on the net and find any articles regarding Mooralla and you'll find out where the location is. The same goes for my other videos. Most of the places in my video are public fossicking/prospecting area. Also check out my other channel "WalnLiz"
Hi Leslie, Talk about timing. I'm in the process of doing a video on cutting stones....lol I'm using a 6 inch Diatrenn saw blade with high concentration of diamond. It's ideal for all types of gemstones. Been using this blade for many years and I haven't replaced it for a new one and I cut a lot of stones. I also use a .2mm thick tin blade for valuable gemstones that require minimum waste like Opals and sapphires. Cheers, Liz
Geodes are usually lighter for it's size compared to a solid rock with the same size. If we get a bigger geode, tapping/knocking the outside lightly and listening for a hollow sound is also one way to tell. It's like knocking the outside of a watermelon. Thanks for your comment and All the best.
Thanks for watching Lycan. Milky quartz crystal is more common. I do have a video below on how to clean crystals without using harmful chemicals. Hope this helps. Cheers, Liz ruclips.net/video/wT358AQO30g/видео.html
@5:51 I know all about that! I was out in Colorado and I managed to park right over about 50 nice half-thumbnail quartz points with inclusions and sometimes phantoms!
This is open to the public and no special permit needed for this specific area but you'll need a miner's right, which is a permit that allows you fossick in Victoria. They're available online.
I live in a community founded on a large quartz deposit called Menifee. I was digging in my soil a few days ago to practice gold panning. While I didn't find any gold, I found two strange quartz crystals (But i'm no jeweler so don't quote me). One is a crystal about the size of a dime with a small amount of clarity but mostly red like a jolly rancher. The other is a dark crystal chip when placed on a surface. Against a white light, it looks like a pale purple. I sampled a lot of regular white and red quartz with iron and other quartz crystals ranging from clear to red. Though nothing like the other two so far. Would it be worth checking for more crystals?
Timesmanify I think you might be asking the wrong person. I love prospecting not for the value of what I find but for the enjoyment of the hunt. If I find crystals in my backyard and I live in an area where gold has been found before....It will bring out the "Digger from Hell" in me and dig the whole area up...LOL Good luck, Happy Hunting and wish you all the very best. Cheers, Liz
Hi Liz, great video to watch. I've already been fascinated by gemstones and am finally getting into thunderegg and crystal fossicking. Do you know of any good videos explaining hand-mining techniques, how to read the pegmatite for hints of pockets, etc? Additionally, are there any recommended local (to Australia, since I'm in QLD) or online to purchase the tools? Thanks in advance, Risen.
OfARisenFall Hi Risen, Thanks for watching and great to see that you're getting into some prospecting. For crystals and general rock fossicking, there is only 3 major tools you need. A sturdy shovel, a crowbar and a fossicking pick similar to those used by the metal detector operators. The first 2 can be purchased from any good hardware store and the fossicking pick from a prospecting supply store. As for videos, there's not many oriented to Australia but many of the ones from the states on youtube reflect similar procedures to what we use on the Queensland gemfield. One handy item in your area would be a shaker sieve as these are very handy for dry sieving gemstones. Best of luck with it all. Cheers, Liz
Thanks Liz Kreate, will do some searching for a good prospecting supply store and investigate some areas to start in. Have been watching Prospectors lately on RUclips and its gotten the rockhound interest alive and kicking again, haha.
I don't know about other countries but here in Australia, we have a lot of designated prospecting areas that the public can go to. All of the videos I've posted about prospecting are open to the public. Just do a bit of research and hopefully you'll find some areas near you...cheers
You find so much cool stuff Do u have a website or a page u sell stuff at?? Even grab bags or surprise boxes???? Seems it looks like u find enough stuff... maybe??
Hey Alex Ramerez, I recently left los Vegas having lived there 15 yrs. I had a secret spot where I would go to collect agate, geodes, and crystals. These spots are rich in gemstones! , but keep it a secret, huh?... just kidding. The more the mareier! You can find what your looking for and so much more out in SERCHLIGHT, NEVADA. If you're in Henderson, just jump on the 95. South and turn off like your going to the river in Laughlin. Stay on the hyway as if going to SERCHLIGHT, but pay attention to the "power-lines" on the right side of the hyway. Just before the town of SERCHLIGHT, the hyway and the power-lines on the right side of the hyway, out in the desert, meet. Turn-off onto any of the dirt roads that lead to the steel hi power line towers. Park and have a look around following the wires over-head. I have filled the back of my truck with beautiful colored gems, minerals, crystals, and arrow-heads. Don't bother to look in the sand wash at the foot of the mtns out in the desert. I have found nothing there. Only in the areas under, and around the power lines. Also, if you go back towards vegas, and see the road sign for NELSON, turn and go there. Go up the hill to the little town, and find rhe visitors center that looks like an old gas station. Park and look at all the wonderful colored gems and minerals on the property, but don't take them. You can find yyour own if you drive back on the dirt roads leading to the mtns behind this place. Probably about 100ft or little more behind I have found awesome geodes! Look around for baseball sized nodules, and bring them home and crack them open. Well I know this will help you find tons of material. Peaceandlove...Theo.
Hello Liz, all my life I've been interested in crystals and everything to do with rocks, I love your videos there very educating and enjoyable !! so now that I'm old enough to do stuff that I really want to presue I live in Alberta Canada, Amy suggestions as to where I could find any crystals or geo crystals :)
+llDeeRaeell We are from Australia and have never been to Canada, but I'm sure with a bit of research, you'll be able to find locations near you. Good luck and happy hunting. Cheers, Liz
Red Hana Thanks for watching Hana. I had a lot of fun in this area. We stayed here for 4 days and wishes we could have stayed longer. Hope you get the chance to do this someday. Cheers, Liz
I'm only a kid but I really want to know something about crystals like where you find them cause when I'm older I want to collect crystals and make jewelry and you have showed me so many epic things I'm also an subscriber I love your movies on finding gems and different crystals so could you please give me some locations of where you find them because I really want to know
Speerut Clouds This fossicking area is in Victoria, Australia. Unfortunately, I don't know of any location near Canberra where one can find geodes. Thanks for watching and wish you all the very best. Cheers, Liz
I found a geo-stone in my back yard that I hit with my lawn mower that split in half. I was very surprised as my back yard is full of river rocks if you do a little digging.
Hi Liz, Great video! It has made me really excited to check out Mooralla. Is this area still open to the public for fossicking? If so, what is the name/location of this prospecting area? Ta, Steph.
Thanks for watching Stephanie. Not sure if it's still open as this was a couple of years ago when we went there. Below is a link to the location. Good luck and Happy Hunting. Cheers, Liz gemfossicking.com.au/quartz_info.html#Morella
Hello again Liz. I noticed in previous comments that you mentioned you have a book that you use as a guide for gem fossicking in Australia/Victoria. What is the name of this book? Hope you're well. - Steph
Stephanie Giacomini Hi Steph, Here is the name of the book and a link below. Special Publication No. 4 is "Gem Minerals of Victoria". This is an attractively presented full colour publication of 120 pages, providing details on the gem minerals found in Victoria. www.mineral.org.au/socs/vicpg001.html#publications
Great video. My only issue is that you don't show where to look for Geodes outside an area known to contain geodes. Looks like your at one of those public mining places where you pay an entrance fee and go search for precious gems. I have 2 geode stones. One is a egg cut in half and all the crystals have grown together to form a solid cystall on the inside that is a deep blue in color. I also have small pieces of a geode that has Purple, sharp pointed crystals inside. Need to find a place here in Colorado where I can search for geodes. I have always found them facinating and really cool to look at. I'd love to find one of the huge geodes I have seen, some as big or bigger the bowling balls with the inside filled with colored crystals. The main color I see in those large geodes is also blue or purple. Can't wait to find my first one!! If anyone knows of a place to search for geodes in Colorado please leave a comment here with the info. Thanks.. :)...
jecuce Amethyst is a variety of quartz and can often be found in the form of veins, geodes (AKA eggs) or druzy cavities, just to mention a few. Cheers, Liz
I hope you read this iv followed your 4 years or more now i really want to find the amazingly fun places to dig for eggs and crystals is there people that can take me that no this stuff im desperate to go and live life and be exited i love it.
Hi Angel, I don't know where you're from but here in Australia and some other countries have many "Lapidary Clubs or Gem Clubs" that one can join. Nearly all of these clubs have prospecting trips on a regular basis to places where they look for gemstones. May I suggest you investigate the area you live in and find out if such clubs exists. It might be worthwhile giving them a call. You can easily find their contact info on the net of the clubs nearest you. Good luck and wish you all the very best and thank you for watching. Cheers, Liz
All public "designated" fossicking/prospecting areas in Australia is open to everyone and anyone from all over the world. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Liz
Thanks Pat. Glad you like the video. The hunt is the most exciting part of the dig. The hard work is just a bonus. Keeps us fit. All the best, Liz

Would love to have one with a strong and long crystalline structure, along with some great color, like red or purple, or heck, any color.. ;)
+Liz Kreate: the one at 6:40, I love the most. They just seemed to be calling out for you!
Can someone tell me Where I can find crystals in the Midwest?
those crystals are amazing. I would love to find a place like that here in italy
Hi Liz, love your videos! What kind of saw do you use to cut these? Or which one would you recommend. Thanks for your videos, very helpful
Hi Leslie,
Talk about timing. I'm in the process of doing a video on cutting stones....lol
I'm using a 6 inch Diatrenn saw blade with high concentration of diamond. It's ideal for all types of gemstones. Been using this blade for many years and I haven't replaced it for a new one and I cut a lot of stones. I also use a .2mm thick tin blade for valuable gemstones that require minimum waste like Opals and sapphires. Cheers, Liz
I do get a bit excited at times when hunting for gems. Who can blame me and it's an incurable disease. Thanks for your comment. All the best
I know this is a pretty random question, but what exactly is your career? Like did you major in anything to get you where you are today?
How can you tell between geodes and rocks?
Geodes are usually lighter for it's size compared to a solid rock with the same size. If we get a bigger geode, tapping/knocking the outside lightly and listening for a hollow sound is also one way to tell. It's like knocking the outside of a watermelon. Thanks for your comment and All the best.
love watching your crystal hunting videos! they are awesome!!thx
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the videos. Happy New Year!
what countries can you go and dig up crystals for your self
MARAVILHOSA SUAS PEDRAS!!! LINDAS DIMAIS! Parabéns LIZ! AIDA BRASIL
Which are the most common Quartz Crystals? Do you think you could spare some advice as to how I should clean them?
Thanks for watching Lycan. Milky quartz crystal is more common. I do have a video below on how to clean crystals without using harmful chemicals. Hope this helps. Cheers, Liz
ruclips.net/video/wT358AQO30g/видео.html
@5:51 I know all about that! I was out in Colorado and I managed to park right over about 50 nice half-thumbnail quartz points with inclusions and sometimes phantoms!
Any tips on exactly how to find them when to stop digging down etc
I'm editing a video ATM on this Tezza. Please keep an eye on that. Cheers, Liz
Thank you for sharing! Do you need a permit to fossick here or open for public?
Cheers, Liz
Love crystal hunting. Thanks for your time and info.
You're welcome Linda and thank you for watching and commenting. All the best, Liz
You find so much cool stuff
Do u have a website or a page u sell stuff at?? Even grab bags or surprise boxes???? Seems it looks like u find enough stuff... maybe??
Not selling at the moment. Just can't find the time to go through/process them. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Liz
Thank you for such a beautiful, and informative video😃❤️️😍😍!
Liz is the Butterfly Whisperer! and Crystal Whisperer too!
Theo θEΩ any chance you have coordinates that I could use? I would love to head out there and explore for some treasures.
Cheers, Liz
Brilliant, Alabama has beautiful smoky quartz
Thanks for watching. It's a nice change from chasing gold all the time.
How do u get yours so clean?
but if there is no reservation where i can go, what location should i search ?
O.o... wish could join you there hunting for crystals it looks like fun for me.
Red Hana Thanks for watching Hana. I had a lot of fun in this area. We stayed here for 4 days and wishes we could have stayed longer. Hope you get the chance to do this someday. Cheers, Liz
I'm only a kid but I really want to know something about crystals like where you find them cause when I'm older I want to collect crystals and make jewelry and you have showed me so many epic things I'm also an subscriber I love your movies on finding gems and different crystals so could you please give me some locations of where you find them because I really want to know
What is the very small darker orange looks kinda like crystals but grows in geodes..I am pretty new at geode hunting...any tips..
Not sure what you're referring to Tyler. Is it in this video or do you mean any orange crystals?
Liz Kreate perhaps they asked about Citrine, Sounds like it as amethyst or other geodes are heat treated and sold as citrine?
Sariah Teran I think Tyler might already have found the answer. Thanks for watching and commenting. Wish you all the very best, Liz
Can you find geodes near Canberra??? (You said this was in Australia.)
Speerut Clouds This fossicking area is in Victoria, Australia. Unfortunately, I don't know of any location near Canberra where one can find geodes. Thanks for watching and wish you all the very best. Cheers, Liz
Is it possible to find some in our backyard?
I found a geo-stone in my back yard that I hit with my lawn mower that split in half. I was very surprised as my back yard is full of river rocks if you do a little digging.
Rocio Ramos same
Yeah it's possible, I have found some myself
Hi Liz, Great video! It has made me really excited to check out Mooralla. Is this area still open to the public for fossicking? If so, what is the name/location of this prospecting area? Ta, Steph.
Thanks for watching Stephanie. Not sure if it's still open as this was a couple of years ago when we went there. Below is a link to the location. Good luck and Happy Hunting. Cheers, Liz

Ive not seen a video of yours in a few. Hope all is well ms Liz
All's well Joseph. Just can't get away and take videos because of covid state border closures. Hopefully I'll have some new videos soon. Cheers, Liz
@@LizKreate thank you for responding and stay healthy
Thanks.. :)...
Could you do a movie on what places like a list or something
does quartz and amethyst grow in the same area ? cause amethysts are eggs also , right ?!
jecuce Amethyst is a variety of quartz and can often be found in the form of veins, geodes (AKA eggs) or druzy cavities, just to mention a few.
Cheers, Liz
Is that place for visitors too? Can I mine there if I'm not a Aussie?
All public "designated" fossicking/prospecting areas in Australia is open to everyone and anyone from all over the world. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Liz
they look soo pretty I want one!!
+Tiphany Bond Hi Tiphany, I have some for sale on my website . Thanks for watching and wish you all the very best. Cheers, Liz
I can't wait to come down and dig with friends. :)
Do we have them in England
