- If you love collecting rocks and gems, this place is a must to visit for mineral collecting. We only spent a couple of hours here and only taken a few samples but would definitely come back here someday and explore the area a bit longer.

Thank you for sharing.I do miss your videos.
Thanks very much for watching and glad you enjoyed my videos. Keep safe.
@@LizKreate wow you’re so lucky I’m Nysa lucky here in uk 🇬🇧 but the malachite would look great in a ring if you find a good specimen the green bands in it would really make it 👍🇬🇧🇮🇹🐾🦊
Thanks for bringing us on your trip Liz, I love seeing the minerals and stone out in the wild in their natural habitat. ;)
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
If you buy a uv flashlight the rocks will glow at night or in the dark at home.I recommend a good brand like fenix flashlights. Diamonds will glow blue in the dark. It may not always be diamond need send to a lab. 😁
I am always excited whenever I receive notifications, for your gem & mineral videos.
Thanks for watching James.
Love it Liz! You should offer guided tours. That would be great fun!
Maybe one day...

I delivered a couple of cranes to Mary K in the late 70s liz and it was close to or already ceasing production..i wish i had my rock addiction back then
There's still plenty there for the hobbyist prospector up to this very day. Have fun and take care.
@@LizKreate thanks and same to you guys..see you next time.
after doing a bit of research it seems that the green mineral may actually be pitchblende, though it may not always make sure to wear gloves when handling uranium minerals as the dust from these minerals is quite toxic if ingested
Uranium!!! Ooh err take care!!!
Thank You for good video.
You're welcome and thanks for watching.
Lovely video and some nice samples collected.
The title says uranium mine. Looks like some of the small skarn mines here in Ontario, Canada.
This area use to be a Uranium mine that's now been covered. Thanks for watching.
Liz do you have a video of your garden with all your minerals?
Not all the minerals. Just some that I incorporate into the succulent arrangements. Don't know if you're aware of my other RUclips succulents channel called GROWING SUCCULENTS WITH LIZK
Below is a link to myone of my latest video. Thanks for watching and Have a great day!🥰

Vous me faites rêver! En France tout est interdit dans les anciennes carrières.
J'espère que vous aurez la chance de venir en Australie un jour. Merci d'avoir regardé.
Absolutely amazing Liz. How do both find these beautiful places. It just makes me sad to go there and pick up everything lol then put one back when I find a better one. Lol. Thank you for another awsome video. I just live the passion you have for what you do. Oh did you ennd up recapturing that Wild Mountain Wal for you're collection. Haha. Until next time. Cheers Wal & Liz.
The information for these places we go can be found online and sometimes with GPS coordinates as well.
The mountain goat is easily lured by the sound of a boiling kettle. Thanks for watching.
So interesting, I wish I had more rocks and gems.
You can buy them but nothing beats finding them yourself. Hope you get the chance. Thanks for watching.
@@LizKreate I would love to go find some but at the moment I don't have anyone to go with.. I'd have to meet someone that would go with me lol.
@@HoneyBee-ge2wx Maybe join a Gem and Lapidary club near you. They always have outings and field trips.
@@LizKreate Oh that's a thought, Thank you!!
Nice☺️
Thanks for watching.
Nice crystals, do you have a geiger counter with you? Check those out before you touch them too much.
Yay another video and more gems woohoo thank you
Thanks for watching.
If I were there I'd be filling all my pockets with everything XD. I believe that granite has to do something with uranium but im no expert XD. Anyways, great video as always :D
Easily done. Thanks for watching.
So many glowing stone there..
Arent those worth of money?
Yes they are. Thanks for watching.
Liz just curious==do you do a history of the areas you go to like geology and make up of that area first? Also have you did a history of areas with the report of the most astroids reported for that area or volcanos for that area and earthquakes? Am very curious as I think there is a connection to minerals found and ancient geology to a certain area....thanks God bless.
Eighty percent of a successful prospecting trip is due to research. Gathering them is only a small part of it. Thanks for watching. Cheers
FIRST! 🙂
Thank you for watching.
Where's Wally Now! lol.
ESSAS PEÇAS PODEM SER POLIDAS?
A maioria delas pode ser polida e dá lindas pedras para joias.
Grata pela resposta
WHERE IS THIS
Sunset Mine in Mary Kathleen, Queensland, Australia.
Isn't that toxic?
This area itself is safe. The area where the Uranium was mine is now all covered up.
What you called hematite is most likely cuprite
Thanks for the info Yuri and thanks for watching. Cheers, Liz
This is the Sunset Mine up the hill. just west of the Mary Kathleen townsite. It was basically a copper mine. When I was there I found Manganite on the road up to the mine. Heavy black mineral. At first, I thought it was Magnetite, but it wasn't magnetic. And it isn't Hematite as it produces a black streak. Yes, and lots of nice Calcite at the mine itself (white & pinkish) It makes a nice garden rock. And of course. a variety of copper minerals. The place has been fairly well 'picked over' though.
It's well picked over but for those with good eyes, there's still plenty to be had. Thanks for watching.
Where's Wally! He was hidden well! 😂 Yall had a great trip there. So many specimens of different kinds. I am glad you didn't go much closer to that big drop at the beginning! Malachite kills plants?! Wow! Great trip!
Ho dare I hope you find Wally churches
One love Sister
Wow, just amazing! and all on the ground. I’d be so excited. I really want to do some of this. Is it safe to do by myself do you think? Out for a few days just sleeping in my Ute? Thanks Liz.
Totally safe Jeanine. There'll be a lot of other prospectors in the area and I find that they are the nicest bunch of people you'll ever meet. Thanks for watching.
So it seems that two different kind of rocks can connect that in my opinion, is mating....right!?
Where is this
Sunset Mine in Mary Kathleen, Queensland, Australia.
The one you said barite possibly...to me looks like ettringite or weloganite . None of those are listed as found at that mine on mindat, though. SUPER cool finds!!
I've taken some of these stones to Geoscience here in Canberra and has been confirmed by good authority after specific testing. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Liz
@@LizKreate the ones u said were barite were?? I agreed with the other stuff it was just that one :)
@@coo4231 The Barite?.... that's what the fellow said at Geoscience. Possibly Barite. ☺ Thanks for the input. Have a lovely day. Cheers, Liz
Great video Liz. Love all those specimens and the detail you always show. Really helps those of us whom are newer to rock hounding. Been missing y’all so much. Happy you’re back! ❤️
Thanks so much!
12:55 looked serpentine-ish like my wife's picrolite.
Hi liz
Hi Barbara, Thanks for watching.
Yvw
Get a old map find the old river bed in the area. Dh Davis rough diamonds, happy hunting God bless
Thanks for the tip Damion. Cheers
I heard malachite is toxic I didn’t rly blv it until now!
It's toxic when you ingest or inhale the dust due to its copper content. Otherwise, safe for jewelry.
Spelling error at 0:50 Hazardous not haRzardous.
Thanks for watching and the typo. Good catch.
@@LizKreate Thanks for the nice video
Really love that epidote, very pretty!

Do you use a geiger counter? We found one of our large obsidian rocks emits gamma rays. On the lower end of high emission. We have obsidian all over here and the other large chunk does not emit any radioactive ray... Collecting at a uranium mine you might be getting some radioactive mineral as well.
The radioactive area has been covered up and off limits so it's relatively safe where we are here.
Thanks Liz! You and Wally need walkie talkies!
We have walkie talkies but generally we have no need for them. Thanks for watching Elena. Cheers
Where is the pitchblende and torbernite at the uranium mine? ;)
This is all at Sunset Mine in Mary Kathleen, Queensland, Australia. Cheers
I want to buy this mineral autunite from you? for how much you sell?
I don't sell. Thanks for watching.
Hi Liz is there sum we're I can send u pic I think I got heap aventurine or jade not sure

That Calcite is purdy!
Calcite is called "The great pretender" as it can take on many forms. Thanks for watching.
Great video Liz, really enjoyed watching it and seeing how many different specimens you found, some awesome pieces. Love the “ where’s Wally”😂
Hopefully in the next couple of years I will get a chance to visit that area. I hope you have not been badly affected by the recent rain.
Keep Safe & Keep Rockin
Glad you enjoyed it! Hope you get the chance. Highly recommended. We're in Canberra and away from the floods. Thanks for watching and take care.
Wow! I love it! I am addicted to rocks now LOL Liz you won't believe it I was in our granite gravel outside patio this afternoon because the weather is warming up and I was finding lone chunks little chunks maybe the size of a quarter pieces of Micah everywhere and they weren't there last year because before I started busting my own granite those are the gravel Pebbles I was using in my soil mix so I would have seen them. So I was outside collecting the mica pieces looking like a little kid on Easter Sunday looking for Easter eggs LOL I absolutely love going around my property now looking at all the boulders. And back in colonial times they separated property lines with rock walls and they are evident miles upon miles everywhere so I actually feel like I'm on a treasure hunt every time I go outside. There's nothing really as large in scale as you going out prospecting into these abandoned mines but I absolutely just love going and feeling the different textures and seeing the different types of rocks. It's amazing and addicting
You're lucky you could just go in your backyard and rockhound. Wish we don't have to travel this far. Thanks for watching.
Hi Liz, I’m currently travelling in my caravan in nth west NSW and then onto west Qld. I’m learning as I go where and how to noodle and fossick. Your videos are a great learning tool for me. Do you have any helpful hints to help guide novices in the right direction?
Thanks for watching Mel. Before we go on the road, we usually research beforehand where we're going to go. May I suggest going online and look up different designated fossicking locations along the way. They usually have detailed maps to follow. Also check out Tourist information centers in the towns along the way. Good luck, happy hunting and stay safe.
You really got beautiful specimen right there. I am wondering how you can juggle from your succulents and prospecting, Ms. Wonder Woman :)
One foot over the other...LOL Thanks for watching.
Amazing video thank you 🍀🍀
Thanks for watching Jasmine. Glad you enjoyed it.
What a great adventure Liz. I loved seeing all the different specimens in the one site. I didn’t think that was possible 🤔 You and Wally have a wonderful life. That bird that was chirping on video... it made me think of Pedro ❤️
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
@@LizKreate I always do Liz.
Hi Liz, woukd you be interested in having a look at a few gems for me? Ive tried so many people & they have everyone stumped! Ive researched & researched to the point ive just about given up! Lol Maybe i could send you an email with some pictures? Kind regards Leanne
I should probably call them something else other than a gem as there are so many different gems & minerals in the one rock 😊
I can have a look but no guarantee. Please send it to facebook.com/WalnLiz/
@@LizKreate yay you saw my message! I'll be in contact tomorrow 😊 I'm not holding you to anything lol But if they stump you I don't know where to go then 😊 I'd be happy to call you the queen of gems! 😍
