Could this border work with every round being single crochet, or would those stitches be too small for the double crochet blanket, if that makes sense? Would it make the border pucker, and is that part of why you chose 2 half double rows?
I choose half double crochets just to add definition and a bit of texture (but also because it grows the border quicker!), however there is nothing stopping you using just single crochet, the width of the stitches is still the same so it shouldn’t pucker.
