  • Today's Cumbrian Fellsman from Leamington Spa to Carlisle has been cancelled. However -
    - it's a glorious day and I know that something interesting - and different - is happening which will give me some delightful railway travel and unusual filming. What more could I ask?

      Thanks Nige. Yes, the KS West station is a cracking spot for drone filming. Wish I'd managed to ride one of the buses on the road run but, alas, I had to be on a train home at 5 o'clock. Next year perhaps.

      It is, isn't it? I wish I could have video'd the run out to The Fat Lamb - quite breath-taking scenery - but I was stuck half-way down a vintage bus. Next year, perhaps.

    Brilliant footage Tim. Some nice vehicles there and like the blue steamer. I'm in the Highlands and saw the Jacobite at Glenfinnan.👍👍

    Looks like you had a great day out and the weather could not have been better. All good stuff for videoing and seems to have been well attended. Only ever been to KS once and that was to catch Tornado on the S&C and a nice visit to KS. Thoroughly enjoyed watching as usual only to be spoiled by a slight spelling mistake at the end (but after a long day and lots of editing I am sure we will let you off with it after such a marathon production 😀Well done Tim)

      An 'l' of a mistake, sure enough!

      Thanks John. Normally my spelling is a great deal more accurate than either my camera work or my editing. You obviously have an eagle-eye for I hadn't spotted the error (and such errors usually leap off the page at me). After reading your comment I went through the film again and spotted two possibly questionable words - one where American and English spellings would differ and another, a word which might refer to a carpenter, a purveyor of cooked seafood, a prostitute or an irritable individual - with two possible spellings - both accepted by a string of leading dictionaries - I checked! - and still didn't spot the omission. Occasionally if I'm typing in a hurry my keyboard will not respond to every touch but I invariably spot the missing letter and correct it before producing the finished video. I can only put this one down to either fatigue or old age - or both!
      I shall have to employ you as a proof-reader! Best wishes.

      @@schoolshorts I am really the last guy to pull somebody up for their spelling. I am usually blind to my own spelling mistakes but they stick out a mile when I read my messages back at a later date. You have my permission to scold me the first time you see any of my errors. Take care and thanks again.

      Curiously, the locals seemed to think it was a quieter rally than usual. It's a few years since I was last here but I do seem to remember more buses on that occasion.
      Scotland seemed to be very well represented on the bus front - I felt quite at home!

    I did not know about this event but go to York model railway show on Easter Saturday anyway. It looks really good and so many buses you can ride on. I used to get some of those and the Leopard was a regular one for getting home from work up a 1 in 7 hill which really made them work they were good vehicles and rarely broke down. I got a lift to Glasgow in February and we were beside this old line. I was not sure which it was and found it was where the BTF Snowdrift at Bleath Gill was filmed. I hope they can open more track it would be a real tourist attraction in lovely such countryside. We saw a few railway coaches in the distance which I found was the Eden Valley Railway who also look to have a short section of track.

    • @schoolshorts
      @schoolshorts  Год назад

      I wish them well with their plans but they're a small organisation and won't find it easy to develop their track. How I'd love to have travelled that line before it closed.

      @@schoolshorts In these troubled times you are right people with money to spare are thin on the ground. I remember how hard it was for NYMR to save the rest of their line all those years ago. I would of loved that line as well it must of been very scenic and challenging for steam locomotives.

  • @alistairshaw3206

    Great video , Tim. The footbridge you were standing on was built by the infamous Sir Thomas Bouch as was the Belah viaduct.
    It was nice to see the vintage vehicles too. I do love seeing buses. I cut my teeth on. You can't beat a Leopard.
    Unfortunately, my classic motorcycle suffered a seizure coming back from a charity run yesterday. The joys of classic vehicles!

    • @schoolshorts
      @schoolshorts  Год назад +1

      Thanks Alistair. The main reason that I was at KS was that the scheduled Cumbrian Fellsman had been cancelled as a result of Tangmere's failure - as you say, classic machines!
      I don't know if you've been on that footbridge recently but I have a strong feeling that, if they don't do something about it soon, it'll go the way of the Tay Bridge. One end of it has had new floorboarding put in recently but the rest of it - well, I wouldn't want to hang about on it.

    I'm not a great fan of rubber tyres on asphalt, but I do remember some of the various stages of bus development. There were a lot of fallen marques to be seen on display.

      It must be a mark of my age (born in the closing hours of WW2) that I saw very few vehicles that didn't look relatively modern to me. However, it was something different to film, amid glorious scenery, on a day when the expected steam train had been cancelled.
      Curiously, my last "road vehicles" film was made in May 2016 - the next one is three days away and on my very doorstep. Let's hope for more good weather to get the best out of my local surroundings.
      Every good wish.

    What a lovely video of what looks to have been a fun and informative visit, but I really do miss hearing your dulcet tones in narration though Tim. I much prefer the recent video's in which you have "told us the story of the day" either in addition to, or as a substitute for the scrolling captions. Please do consider doing more narration as it really adds something to the viewing.

      Unfortunately, not everyone agrees with you on the voice/captions issue - so I try to ring the changes as and when I can. But I'm sure you'll hear my "dulcet tones" again - often! Best wishes to you.
