- Dave and Evelyn check out the new FUJIFILM X-T50, Fujifilm's latest X-series camera. This is the first X-series camera with a dedicated dial to access Fujifilm’s 20 Film Simulation modes, including REALA ACE mode. Sharing many features with the iconic X100VI but offering the added versatility of interchangeable lenses, it’s perfect for travel, family, and everyday use.

Paired with a lens with a marked aperture (preferably one of the small f2 primes), this camera has the most (beginner) user friendly user interface I've ever seen on a camera. Important aspects of exposure with clearly marked dials (shutter, aperture with the right lens). An easy escape hatch in the form of the auto switch. Instead of drive dials (which confuse most beginners), you have the film simulation dial which is a fun way to vary the look for beginners. Someone using this will never need to dive into the menu. Brilliant piece of industrial design and UX design.
Oh, and great video, definitely the best I've seen on this camera given the target audience of the camera itself.
This reads like an advertisement…the drive modes have literally been on Fuji cameras for years
@@josephk1342 Nah, I don't think marketing copy would focus on user interface to this degree (they'd use the word ”design” or ”user friendly” instead).
I'm not going to get this myself, and sadly it's priced pretty high for someone who is a beginner in photography, but my point regarding the UI stands.
And yeah, the drive mode has been on Fuji cameras for years which is great for experienced people who change drive all the time… but not for beginners!
But yeah, I can see the frustration if you liked the drive mode and was looking forward to this iteration.
I am quite excited about this camera and lens update, and cannot wait to see one in person.
Its a very cute little street/retro styled camera. I'm personally fine with the top left dial being for the film simulations, its a very easy way to adjust the overall color kind of like the filters on a smartphone and with the film simulations being one of Fuji's big selling points, putting it as a prominent control on the camera is a good move imo.
Finally a new classic... a beautiful fujifilm camera so far...
I think the film simulation dial could be made into a game changer if the basic design were changed to overcome its limits. What about a completely customizable dial with tiny integrated LCD windows that would show your assigned film simulations, visible at a glance?
Looks great and i like the film simulation dial. But too expensive is my opinion.
No one camera body will please everyone, the XT50 for me is a good addition to Fujifilm lineup because it gives photographers more options, most camera manufacturers don't have any wide variety of cameras in their lineup, Fujifilm gives you a standard DSLR style body in the XH Series, retro style bodies in the XT series series with different functions dials and range finder style bodies, so depending upon your photography needs you can see chose, I first bought a slightly used XT3,, i enjoyed it so much that I bought a XH2 then the XT5 and now a XT50.
Very nice camera. I learned Fuji on the XS10. The controls are different between the cameras. Not a big fan of dedicated dial because the drive mode button on The Xs10 &XS20 gives you instant access to Film Simulations with your eye on the viewfinder and see the actual film simulations in composition while scrolling with the toggle lever. Much easier and faster. If you prefer the “ tactile “ experience of the XT30 then you should definitely buy that camera. I like the way the XS20 or XS10 allow for IMO easier manipulation of controls without having to turn dials…because they make me take a hand off the camera. A front and rear wheel I get but not the dial.
Can the film simulations be used for video? Would be xool when doing retro segments.
Not convinced by the film sim dial. Prefer the options on my X-T30 dial. Had been hanging on for this launch but price is way high.
The delete button doubles as a drive button so I’m guessing you can use that and one of the wheels to access the drive options. I think this would actually be an improvement on using the dial on top of the camera because your hands can stay in shooting position. I’m going to the X Summit consumer day this afternoon so I’ll get to see how it works.
@@zarawithcamera do feed back. I use the multiple shots a lot for wildlife and like the ease of a quick turn of a dial from single to multiple shots rather than menu hunting.
@@Longerweekends it didn’t occur to me. I just got to play with it with the new lens (as well as the new GFX100SII) and to be completely honest with you it seems like a huge step up from my x-t30. I can definitely see where the money goes. The new subject detection AI is fantastic, and I much prefer the drive selection over the old dial, it’s far more functional now and easy to access. Pressing the drive button brings up the drive menu and you navigate through it with the joystick or wheel - no taking your hands out of shooting position, and it’s got more functions.
Every thing on the drive dial can be accessed by pushing the drive button on the top back left side of the camera, all the drive options come up on the back screen, left side, top to bottom, you can use the joystick to scroll down to chose the setting you need, it works quite well. I have many different cameras from Pentax, Fujifilm, NIKON, Sony, Olympus and Panasonic and only a few have drive dials.
It's all about choice and Fujifilm gives you many different camera styles to choose from.
3:47 Yikes. X-T50 only costs 20% less than the X-T5 and they still made it single card slot.
The R7 is the same price as the X-T50 and has dual UHS-II card slots, and the R7 battery is nearly twice as large.
I love Fuji but this camera is a tough sell.
Totally Agree with you.
I saw a video stating that the film simulation wheel is only for défaut setting. Is it true or can you have different values (white balance, noise reduction, grain…..) for each of film simulation
Or do you have to go to the main menu for that how does it works ?
I think that's what the 3 custom options on the dial are for?
Love Dave's comment that the X-T50 becomes an X-T5 when you put your finger over the zero. :) Gr8!
I'm thinking of upgrading my X-T2, it still works fantastic and I even manage a few birds in flight shots with the 70-300. I think the battery might be the week point for me. How fast is the AF?
Why not just get the X-T5? It's the natural step up. And in many countries the X-T5 is discounted so the price difference from the 50 is fairly small.
Does this camera support panorama mode?
I don't think it is overpriced, 1900 for a camera with a 40 mpixels sensor, last generation processor, in body stabilization... and you get an 800 euros brand new kit lens. If you factor in inflation, is it really more expansive than the xt3 or xt4 were?
Hi,
I was wondering if I should get the X-T30 or X-T50…? Can anyone help me ? Is there really a huge difference with the new one ? Thanks in advance.
IBIS, larger file and X Trans senor worth the difference
@@tjcuneo I see. Thank you for your reply ☺️
Would prefer the ISO dial on the left and maybe a collar switch on that dial for a few custom film simulations (maybe three or four)
Thanks! This little camera is gorgeous and has about all it takes except for, in my opinion, a dedicated ISO dial instead of this almost useless film simulation dial. Still I really like it ❤
Wow. Every Fuji Influencer and camera stores are liking this Camera this morning at $1399.00. It must be great.
Irony off .......
This is the camera I would buy if I were to buy a Fuji - I personally love the film sim dial.
That being said, I'm a full fledged Micro 4/3 devotee, so please Panasonic and OM, give us some new, small, rangefinder style cameras. I need to know the mft future is secure
I'm sure it's a great little camera, but the huge 50% price increase over the X-T30 (and older models) will be a no-go for most enthusiasts on a budget. Considering the X-T5 is discounted in many countries, it makes sense to buy that and enjoy the extra features even at the cost of a larger camera.
How to switch quickly from photo to video on that camera? I'm still using xt20 since 5 years, it has dial to switch between single photo, burst mode and video, in xt50 that dial is removed, instead we've got simulation dial - useless for me, I never change that in the camera and always shoot raw
The S20 has been released for a while and not readily available. Not sure the point of releasing new cameras when the previously released model is still “new” enough to sell well if only they have more stock.
Because both serve a different purpose. The X-S20 has more and better video features, a larger battery and better grip. The X-T50 is mainly focused on stills.
The electronic shutter speed is so high if you need more than 1/4000 than you have that option to shoot much higher.
The price should go down to 1100
Too expensive. Might as well spring for the X-T5.
fuji wins :)
I don't get why most people want the gray color, the silver one is amazing!
Too bad they priced it too high to be an alternative to the X100VI once you buy a lens for it. They don't allow you to tweak the film situations on the dial so it is of less interest to experienced users.
A lot people that use other brands try shame and gatekeep Fujifilm users out of using film simulations, but hopefully with this just being out in the wild it breaks the gate. The color filter array is uniquely designed, in part, to get that mathematical color consistency with the film stocks the simulations represent, it’s foolish not to use them.
Love the film sim dial. Hate the EVF and price!
great video
‼️A nice camera. I would buy it if it hasn't the film simulation wheel. This is a toy for Instagram people...
p.s. the price for the X-T50 body in Switzerland is actual sFr. 1250.- (€ 1240.-) in Interdiscount shop.
It is 40MP for USD 1400. Nikon Z7ii & Sony a7R both 40MP for USD 2000. No trainer XT50 more valuable. 😊..
Need an XE5 with Ibis.
Agreed. By June of 2025 we'll have it. :)
The price is completely off. Fuji is really getting greedy. When the hype ends this could get a real problem for them.
Hype dictate’s price!
I think the price is almost justified because of the new specs, however I don't believe they needed to bring 40mp and IBIS to the X-T00 series. Cause yeah now the Fuji lineup is so close in terms of specs and prices... At least the X-T30ii is still available for now, but without a rumor of a new X-T200 replacement, Fuji doesn't really have a true entry level camera price wise. I think it ultimately just feels weird to have their top hardware in a camera with a film sim dial, a camera that is supposed to be for new photographers or Fuji users.
The pricing is just ridiculous
Maybe they are “ re-arranging “ their product lines. New sensor technology creates new products.
I couldn't agree more. They gave us IBIS but took away the kit lens stabilization so in reality they only upgarded the sensor and downgraded the lens and added 400 dollars to the price!
I feel a little insecure lol I want more of a separation of features and tech between this and my X-H2
Still trying to figure out how to switch to movie mode lol
Whoa - price so much higher than for its predecessors :-(
if they stick in kodakchrome it will make Kodak Cry since they havent given it to us yet.
Go to this page and scroll down - you will see Kodachrome 64 film simulation recipe. I have put it in a custom slot on my Fujifilm X-H2 - LOVE IT!
Lack of a screen that can also tilt vertically is a dealbreaker.
Oh?️ no: The new shape no longer corresponds to Fujifilm's tradition of beautiful retro cameras such as the X-T20 or the X-T30. Hand on heart: Who needs an extra bike for film simulations? This can be solved with the two previous models with the "Film Simulation Series" function. Plus: From aperture 4.0 onwards, the older lenses deliver the same good results... The X-T50 is therefore more suitable for trendy people who want to exhibit their pictures on social media. To each his own....
And its way overpriced
Fuji is slowly becoming the new Leica. $$$$
Sim dial will probably be good for video. For stills, though it's useless as I always shoot in raw.
That film sim dial tho 🤦♂
Whether or not the film simulation dial is good for power users all depends on whether they save camera settings per-simulation, which would effectively make it double as a custom function dial, a feature normally reserved for high end bodies.
Entry level…..at a pro full frame price. More fujiexcuses.
So expensive 😮
I'm laughing, here..."Transition between a mobile phone & this camera..." er, no. "Film simulation dial..." What were Fuji thinking of ? At the price point indicated, this is decidedly not 'entry level' - not everyone is going to have that amount of disposable income - especially in the US or Canada. I'll stick with my 35mm Nikon Analogues & DSLR's, thank you.. ninety-seven cents shy of $2,300.00 (Ca)..... that's for a body, only.........preposterous !
First comment 🤣🤣🤣🤣 what did I win
