Apart from the wandering microphone at time, s this is a perfect example of how to do a video. No hideous noisy flashy 30-second introduction, a calm voice, not trying to be a chat show host, you don't whiz the mouse across the screen aimlessly and talk in a calm non-shrieky informed manner.
Thanks, just what I needed and clear explanations. I also figured out how to add strum arrows (advanced workspace, palette, arpeggios and glissando, then use the inspector to move the arrows below the score because that's where I like them)
Hi Robin, I use it a lot to create simple chord charts. I find it pretty useful for that - less fully featured for guitar transcribing than guitar pro, but much quicker to create chord charts.
Good day! I want to distract you with a question - how to remove unnecessary remaining empty bars in the stave The program silently moves along them. I don't have enough to remove them
Also if you select a different not value (e.g. 8th note) before entering the chords, each space moves your chord entry by that value. this allwos you to enter changes that happen off the beat
Just downloaded Musescore and I'm so glad I found this video. This is very helpful to get started. One thing I haven't figured out yet is how to add a hammer-on symbol for guitar. Does this exist?
I am unable to get Musescorre to open to the first page in your videeo. Basically i'm stuck on step Zero. I think once i find out how to get to the starting point i can follow your video from there but wheni start it just shows me the scores i've looked at and scores that it recommends.... Nothing about creating a new score. Can anyone help? I'm on a "smart" phone. That is because when i try to load it on my laptop it tries to load all the plugins i have and it gets stuck on waves and i can either cancel or wait. If i cancel it asks me if i want to continue without waves, so i say yes,, and then it quits.
Is there a way to make cord charts with only the guitar finger board chord diagrams using Musescore, without using any other musical notation, ie, staff, etc...???
Yes in the Palettes section at the bottom you can change it from basic to advanced. And at the bottom of that list there are fretboard diagrams you can insert anywhere you want.
To space the bars the way you want them, make sure you have view >> palettes selected; then go all the way down to the 'breaks & spacers' at the bottom, the icon most to the left looks like an arrow right angled to the left. Click and drag/drop that wherever you want to make a separation. 🙌
She's instructing the user to press the "Ctrl" (short for "Control") key (in MS Windows ) OR "Cont" (short for "Control") key - apparently the same thing as the "Ctrl" in another operating system. Then hit the "k" key to enter the letter you want for the chord. Yes, with her accent, it sounded like she said c*nt.
Was able to do some research and what she was implying was the command to make the elements VISIBLE or not. If you weren't able to find it, it's on the right part of your screen on windows as a check box
Another point of advice is this "control K" doesn't work if you aren't selecting a note/rest element, and you'll get an error, so I suggest you DON'T make things invisible before you put in your chords.
Very nice presentation ! Will you please show how to make complex jazz chords with bass note being different that the root of the chord? Can the bass note be shown directly under the chord?
Thank you for this. I am not sure this is for me but your video was very interesting. What I am looking for is making not only lead sheets, which is what this is, but chord diagrams as well. I need to make chord finger diagrams for guitar, mandolin and banjo but I think I am asking a bit much from free software. I might give it a try just to be able to say I did because I can see this software can teach me a lot about music just by experimenting with it.
Is there a way to hear what you input in terms of a chord chart? When I hit the playback button after I insert some slash notes into my score no sounds comes out in play back mode...
musescore plays notes during playback not chords. If you want to hear them there's a good chance you'll want to chart them out within the program. I may be wrong about this.
Can I open a guitar blank sheet music page and place my *dots* on lines to make my own chords. other than messing around and changing just the symbols, which I can do.
Musescore does have this capability, with some restrictions: musescore.org/en/handbook/note-input-modes#realtime-auto Notion also does this, I have found it to be reasonably accurate with a midi keyboard, and slightly less so with an audio to midi converter like Jam origin. Have a shot with musescore's midi input and see if it's any good.
@@michelledaley55 Why does it have to be so involved ??? I can't write this out on manuscript paper in ten minutes. Or I can do chord charts on Pages...
Really useful, thanks. Just one thing. You need to get out of the habit of moving away from the mike when you are talking. It makes it very very difficult to hear you.
Muse score IS NOT A “free bit of software”. So far as I can tell, this app IS NOT FREE because it’s critical functions are unavailable without purchase. It provides continuous monotonous options to buy a subscription, and requires email and signup for functionality (again, NOT FREE). Their homepage states, and I quote: “Completely free, no limitations.” This is untrue. It is replete with limitations, especially without purchasing an account. Typical advertising Bait and Switch.
Thanks for your point of view. I suppose it depends whether you think free means no money, or no information. Personally I've been using musescore at no cost to me for years, and if you don't want them to keep your information you can just unsubscribe from their list. I have zero links to musescore aside from using the software. I don't know if by app you mean for device, but I use the desktop version and don't get ads for subscription.
This is the most helpful MuseScore video available. Thank you!
This is exactly what I've been looking for, thank you!

Great video! Thank you! :)
I think I´m going to love this program.
Hope you have continued with this. Greetings. Robin

YOU ARE A GOLD MINE! Thank you so much for the help you are providing with your video!! 🙏 👍 🎶
monstrously helpful!!! Thanks so much!
Thank you! I also posted this video in a forum...
Glad if it was helpful! It's a few years old now but maybe I'll do an update.
Excellent work!
Thank you for this tutorial ma’am,it’s a big help in my teaching.
Great teaching! Thank you.

I really appreciate you taking the time to comment - thank you!

GOOD QUESTION!!... I was about to ask exactly the same thing!.
I don't think so...if there is I don't know it I'm afraid!@@Phodis

Hide the staff tomake it invisible.
How do you input chords like B FLAT and F SHARP without typing out the word?
You can write Bb for Bflat and F# for Fsharp, and the software will automatically typeset it using the correct symbols
Please tell me how you got 4 bars per line on those first two lines?
To space the bars the way you want them, make sure you have view >> palettes selected; then go all the way down to the 'breaks & spacers' at the bottom, the icon most to the left looks like an arrow right angled to the left. Click and drag/drop that wherever you want to make a separation. 🙌
is it possible to see the chord sheet without the staff?
Awesome! Thank you
Very helpful, thank you.
I recommend putting the version in the Title of the video.
Good idea
Pls Can anyone explain me 3:32 to 3:40 sec..... I couldn't catch what she said..

Did anyone figure out what the "press V" was meant to be? it doesn't seem to make anything invisible
Was able to do some research and what she was implying was the command to make the elements VISIBLE or not. If you weren't able to find it, it's on the right part of your screen on windows as a check box

How do you create more complex jazz chords?
Good question, I was wondering the same thing!
Very nice presentation ! Will you please show how to make complex jazz chords with bass note being different that the root of the chord? Can the bass note be shown directly under the chord?
Thank you...very helpful. Can Musescore handle Nashville Numbering System ( I V vi IV !) chord notations?
No idea, I'm afraid, but I don't see why one couldn't simply write those in instead of chord letters .
Good tutorial but wish you didn't move off axis from the mic now and then
Thank you soooooo much!!!!!! Very descriptive!!! :D

What about playback? Is it possible to play chords by Musescore?
Only if you enter them as notes in a tab, I think.
Can I open a guitar blank sheet music page and place my *dots* on lines to make my own chords. other than messing around and changing just the symbols, which I can do.
Tablature is available in Instruments
Thank you so very much!
how can i add symbols like flat diminished or half dominished on the chords? thanks for the video.

Try that link :)
Thanks!!!

Can´t hear you
Very helpful thank you
Thanks!
Let it *Be*
On the original *Key*
It's gonna start on *C*
Do you not see the rhymes?
This is one big pain in the ass I'm going back to my pencil
Hang in there, it's worth it.

You need to practice your microphone technique. Several times it sounded like you just walked away and whatever you said could not be heard.
Really useful, thanks. Just one thing. You need to get out of the habit of moving away from the mike when you are talking. It makes it very very difficult to hear you.
I wish you wrote the songwriters as just The Beatles to make it easier.
Because it was not written by The Beatles but by Lennon/McCartney
Ctrl + K
