  • Cajun Dance Party were a five-piece band based in London, England. They originally consisted of Robbie Stern, Max Bloom, Daniel Blumberg, Will Vignoles, and Vicky Freund.[1] Blumberg and Bloom left the band in 2009 to form the band Yuck, while other members of the band went to university. Freund now performs with the band TML. No split was ever officially announced. (Wikipedia)

This was the death throes of indie. Just before Razorlight delivered the final killer blow to the entire genre. This landfill indie nonsense is why kids listen to rap and EDM now.

Don't worry. It's a cycle. It'll come back. But will we still be alive till then?

@@dangonzalez3505 I don’t share your optimism. The Punk Rock MBA channel did a good analysis in which he concluded that it probably won’t ever come back into the mainstream because there is nowhere to go with it. There really is only so much that can be done with a guitar and over 50-60 years, it’s exhausted its boundaries. Much like Blues and Jazz, indie/rock is becoming consigned to history.

Remember that the major mode shares the same scale as the aeolian mode. So far, it's overwhelmingly majors that's been used. Blondie did some phrygians and lydians. The Clash was mostly natural minors. Green Day is, well, majors. So, I must disagree with you. Music virtually has no boundaries and much of it is unexplored. As far as I know, no one has even attempted locrians. Punk is a style of playing music. It will come back in a new mode in the future. Classical, jazz, blues, doo-wop, even disco, is dead. Guess what? They're still here.

@@dangonzalez3505 You definitely make a really compelling point and clearly know more about the theory of music than I do; but I still believe my point is valid. There is a reason no fresh, new exciting bands have captured the public's attention at large since the mid-00s. in 2023, there were only two songs that reached Number 1 in the UK that could be considered guitar-led...and one of them was The Beatles. It will always be on the periphery, it will never die, but the days of indie bands being mainstream news are not coming back. You're right, Jazz, Blues et al are still here, but they are considered niche now.

@@_boracic_atreus_23 I would like to point out that Chappel Roan exists and I would not consider her rap or EDM.
I think a large part of it is that we're spoiled for choice. Bands are not finding such large success as often due to finding niche audiences. In a day and age where bands are able to put their music out much easier many people have been able to find a much more tailored and personal musical experience.
