Thanks for posting this man👍🏻 I’m sat here on a freezing cold British morning staring at my rear bike brakes getting frustrated! This video just ended that frustration!! Informative👍🏻 well spoken👍🏻 no bullshit video👍🏻 keep em coming your the bmx saviour🙌
This is the most helpful video on this that I have come across on fixing brakes, and has helped me fix all three of my kids bikes, instead of having to buy new ones!
So good to hear man!! Really happy I could help you save some bikes and some money
What an absolutely perfect explanation brother...NO other video helped me until I've seen yours, thank you 👍😎
Hey thank you!! Stoked to hear it helped you man!
Thanks a lot man you just helped me out .I fixed my son's brakes. I got the bike from a garage sale and the brakes were all seized up on it. it's about a 10 year old Static bike. Thank you for the video on the explanation totally helped
I just got some odyssey 1999 for
My front brakes, I’ve turned a new school kink into a retro looking oldie, not for park it’s purely for cruising and looking dope 😂 adding the skyway mags to a new school bmx frame threw up some interesting little problems that need to be gotten over but it can be done and I’m happy to say it’s starting to take form now.
Thanks man this helped a lot.
You just gained a new subscriber my friend 🤟
This was better than the instructions Odyssey includes with their 2.5s, thanks
FANTASTIC VIDEO!!!!! This had yo much great incite!
THank you!! I'm glad to hear that it helped you!
Thanks Brant, you saved my ass,. Ihave the dual rear cables to single too "Super Super rare Fx 15 Tektro brakes,, also thought it was the cables to adjust it not the brake spring tension itself. I spent 2 hours trying to figure that out until I got mad and watched your video.
Oh nice man I’m stoked to hear that it helped you!!
EXCELLENT explanations!!
Thank you! Hope it helps!
Thanks so much 4:15 had the information that was extremely helpful.
Just what I needed
I do one side at a time, put a spacer from other brake pad on the inside so the brake is that much closer to rim. Adjust then remove extra spacer. Do this on each side then you use the cable adjusts to fine tune.
My spring tension spring won’t tighten, I tightened it with a wrench and it just springs back the wrench. Any idea what could be wrong?
u r the best thnx!!!!!!!

hello learning about my brakes,,excellent video on how spring tension works.
have a question
my brakes are textro caliper, they have a small screw to adjust spring tension? how does that work is it friction or some other way? also there is 2-3 holes in caliper body, how do i know how to adjust spring in the hole it needs?
thanks
john
I’m not exactly sure what you’re referring to so I’m not sure how to help
Wow! what a great video. Thanks a lot for posting!!
Thank you, and thank you for watching!! Hope it helped you!
I owe you my bike bro thanks!

I am your new subscribe
This video is very nice..
Thank you! Glad its understandable at least!
Thank you for being here and thanks for watching!
Well come you
The brake setups I run
Demolition vulcan brake arms
Odyssey ghost pads clear
odyssey k shield kslic cable odyssey mono lever trigger style
Odyssey spring field kit
Odyssey ghost pads
Is there a way to tell what’s causing rubbing when you pull the brake? Is this normal? I’m used to hydraulic brakes on my hardtail and just threw a straight cable setup on my bmx. I have the tension and pad alignment right but the pull is rough and I can feel the brake arms rubbing. (Odyssey evo 2.5 brake kit)
It can mean the straddle cable is too far to one side or if you have a normal brake cable straddle cable it could be too long or too short all together, causing the arms to be offset in a weird way and make them rub. I never liked Odyssey brakes for the back (they’re amazing in the front) because they had to be absolutely perfect to not rub. Have only had experience with the evo 2’s though
@Brant_Moore Thanks for the help!
Demolition vulcan brake arms are a must on everything
They are great brakes that’s for sure!
My setups are weird, but they make the cables last longer and that’s way more useful than having normal setups that break more.
Thanks for the comments though! Hope to see you in the comments again
I'm currently struggling at this point. My driver side refuses to disengage but the non driver side is disengaging perfectly each time. My drivetrain is RHD
Sounds like the spring isn’t tight enough on the side that isn’t returning
@@Brant_Moore also was trying to save a worn out brake cable. Spoiler alert, it was beyond saving. Gotta wait a couple of days for a new one, so looks like I'm going brakeless for now
No shame in that game man! My entire brake setup is built around making cables last as long as possible and replacing them as easy as possible
It's those shadow brakes. Have the same pair of 90 $ shadow brakes and they suck. I am going back to the evo 2 . Thanks for tips because I am sick of having shitty brakes that should be butter smooth
Always happy to help!!
So how to I remove them?
How tf do you remove them my new bike cane with them and I can’t get the two back brake levers off
Watch my how to install brakes video and go in reverse order
What if they are both rubbing?
Your springs could be backward
But the best setup
Demolition vulcan brake arms
Odyssey ghost pads clear
Odyssey mono lever trigger finger style
Kool stop brake cable
Do you know where I can buy the springs From bro ?
Depending on what kind of brakes you have you should be able to get a replacement kit. I know odyssey and demolition sell them. Between those two and your local shop you should be able to get it sorted!
@Brant_Moore thank you for the information. Peace
You got it! Hopefully it helps you out enough to earn your subscription!
Always happy to help out and answer any questions the best I can
@Brant_Moore absolutely bro most appreciations
Dialing brakes is easy and fun to use riding.
wow
the infinite struggle with spring tension probably why odyssey invented the springfield brakes, where you don't have 2 adjustable springs and have 1 spring connecting the two arms. XD
Yeppp, but the control makes the brakes feel soooooo good
@@Brant_Moore true XD but you could always go to a hardware store and get a tighter/looser spring or just double up the springs that come with it.
My brakes are extremely smooth grippy and trustworthy
Bro you got 2 silver springs that go the same way both sides... isn't that wrong?
They aren’t the same. You can see how they coil different directions if you look closely.
If any one needs any help with gear ratios for bmx hit me up as I’ve spent a few months playing around with different setups and have become fairly knowledgeable from doing so on that topic and am happy to pass on any tips 🤟
What is the best gear ratio for BMX in your opinion?🙄
My brake lever doesn’t move
Your brake setups are kinda weird
I'm having a bitch of a time. One side the pad is touching. But it also barely moves. I've been adjusting for an hour. Nothing works. One side works great. The other doesn't do much.
It’s possible your spring is shot
@@Brant_Moore damn, the bike's brand new.
Oh then that’s probably not it.
Are you sure you’re turning the cap the correct direction?
@@Brant_Moore I'm pretty sure I've tried both directions. I'm gonna get back on it now. Let's see how it goes.
So I figured out that there was one very loose spoke causing the wobble causing the pad to touch. The brakes still don't apply completely even, but what ever. At least it's not catching the rim.
The best way to set up brakes is to take em off.
DINO IDEAS best way to.end up.as a stain on.a bus tire to. Why run brakeless no advantage to it at all. Rather have a brake and not need it.
Marc Nortan it cuts my fingers and knucles real bad when I mess up.. by the way . A brake cable might snap or fail on you .. but sticking your foot in the tyre will always stop you..
DINO IDEAS brakes can last 3 years or more. Stopping with your shoes only last 6months or less.
Ding ding ding winner!
