Nice video. It’s interesting that you got into fly fishing! I’m a 70 year old retired neurosurgeon, disabled, living as a hermit/monk, doing substitute teaching, when I can, and determined to go fly fishing a lot this upcoming summer, if I live. Your reminiscing on what was an insult is interesting. I recall an elderly woman, on a jet flight cross country, who told me: “You can always assess the spiritual condition of a person by the ease with which they are offended.” At that time I recall being easily offended. You obviously turned what was intended to insult you into a beneficial motivator! Well done. I’m going to watch some of your fishing videos. Thanks for posting and God bless.
As I recall Mondale got creamed? Reagan won the Cold War? We’re in a real mess now? Trump 🆚 Biden II? My predominant thought: Why can’t we do better than these “Rich scoundrels”? Camelot died a long time ago! However, no one seeks out my opinion. My current motivation, besides fly fishing, is encouraging people to avoid alcohol and learn how to live ALCOHOL FREE!

Good morning Alvin, I enjoy listening to your insights. I always enjoy and learn from others folks. Somewhere along the way we have lost that. Now it is “I am right and you are wrong” what happened to everyone’s thinking. I am 67 now but I enjoy being with people with differing opinions and views. It will either reinforce my views or look deeper to see the error I have. We all change on our journey hopefully that person did as well. I live by the saying “ better are wounds from a friend than the kiss from an enemy “. So glad that I came across your channel keep it strong. Oh one last thing I came across my Father’s old tax information. His whole life he never made over 93,000 dollars. But he was a man of integrity. I was born and raised in Texas during a similar time (class of '87) . I no longer live in Texas after I moved away in '91 but I too was into the punk scene in Dallas. I often while talking to someone around my age reflect back when we could have conversations and still be friends or at least not have violence as an outcome of that disagreement over politics. I do miss the food and laid style Texas can have. Not sure why you came across my recommended video but I am glad you did. Very good story teller, it is a true art.

I grew up rich but my parents never spent any money on materiel things so I really didn't know they were loaded. My dad farmed part-time at two places and had a full time job and my mom worked one full time job.
We had people who lived in our county who still used outhouses and used a tub to take a bath and it was already the late 80's early 90's.
My parents made us work during the summer...my dad said we couldn't work during the school year because he had to so he I guess felt that he didn't want his kids to have to work.except for farm chores but that only took a half hour a day once the crops were in. We only had to water the sheep and take care of lambs in the winter time.
It was our job to bottle feed the lambs that were rejected. My parents both worked and we could always take a nap at lunchtime during school or study hall if we had one.

I have seen several videos of Ronald Regan… of which he “preached” or warned about socialism… which is now the democratic stance.
And as a Republican, though he was for capitalism… but he was against greed, of which unfortunately most capitalist minded people tend to be greedy… but then this is my view regarding politics in general:
I hate capitalism… but I also hate socialism… so where would that place me or people like me?

    • @AlvinD
      @AlvinD  8 месяцев назад +1

So the video wasn't at all about socialism vs capitalism but I'll tell you what I think but I think we need to come to an agreement about the definition of socialism. This is the basic definition from the Oxford dictionary - so·cial·ism
      /ˈsōSHəˌliz(ə)m/
      noun
a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.

If you're a worker, the men who want to hoard wealth come across as demonic. He told you to get on board or drown. We pretend to like each other, but we don't. We vote so our enemies lose just as much so our friends win. Not saying he was right to say that though, you shoulda smacked him.

I live in the Netherlands and have a great friend who lives in the US, he's an average white guy with kids around the same age as mine.We often discuss the similarities and differences between our two social systems, one of the chats,a few years ago, he was very upset about something to do with his oldest son not getting a place in his chosen university, not that he didn't meet the requirements or have the best qualifications but because he was white.
The university has to allow a certain number of black and minority people in at the expense of white and Asian people, even if they don't have the required qualifications......
His son had worked hard and sacrificed lots of his social life to get the best qualifications and had earned points by volunteering to work in the community to help the underprivileged and homeless.
He has a place in a different university but what really bites is when they were out to dinner he heard a group of young people talking about going to university and one of the black guys said he was glad he didn't need to work so hard because he will get the edge because there are places reserved for black people with lesser qualifications.......
As a European this is ridiculous situation that suggests that black people need help ( in other words not intelligent enough... what an insult) and is very bad for me future by not getting the best person....

Well affirmative action was not even part of the story here, but since you brought it up. You and your friend have had the wool pulled over your eyes. The US supreme court has outlawed affirmative action but not legacy admissions which by some estimates takes up as much as 45% of the admissions at some Ivy League colleges. Way more than affirmative action ever did. Legacy admissions mean that you are more likely to get in if your parents went to that school. So your friends son and the minority students are left fighting over the scraps. A classic diversion by the powered class to get those underneath them fighting among themselves while they carry on with business as usual. So the slightly better off keep kicking down on (blaming) those less fortunate than them. Fortunately, Alvin, you were astute enough in your youth to understand that what anyone SAYS of a derogatory nature about you cannot and should not hurt you. Every young person today, whether black, white, or otherwise, could learn from you. Hateful (or stupid) words should have no effect on anyone, except maybe to motivate one to prove that insults can’t stop one from believing in oneself and moving on from the moment. Congratulations on the man you became. I’d be willing to bet you instilled the same sort of self respect into your children.

And are you actually serious about this??
So how is that? I am wondering how you came to that conclusion??

It depends upon how old you were and established. My parents both had full time jobs a house and no kids during the Reagan years.
I have a deer hunting friend who had just graduated from school a few years before hand just had twin boys already had a daughter and his wife couldn't work he.haf to have three part time jobs and almost lost his house multiple times. So a lot of it was timing.

Bruh, you really dated yourself with the Reagan story. You look like you were born in the 80's.

Man I was tearing it up in the 80s, check out this video. We made it in 91 or 92 but the band started in the 80s.ruclips.net/video/uStLrVvTtHo/видео.htmlsi=tPbN8nlUCfeiW7GK

“Politically active” I found means lots of bloviating and gathering, and yelling…with very little knowledge of what they’re yelling about.
