1999. I wasn't even 5 yet when this movie came out. My mom took me to go see Tarzan in theaters a little after it came out. While the movie was wonderful, it was the music that really did it for me. Especially this song. That movie was the catalyst to making me a lifelong Phil Collins fan. He was one of the first musicians I could recognize as a child, and I loved growing up and discovering his solo music, his music on Brother Bear and his music with Genesis. I really wish I could've gone to any of his concerts before he retired, and I've never understood the hate around him. He's a wonderfully talented person and overall a great dude. Every time I hear this song now, the nostalgia hits like a freight train, and I remember the days when kid!me would get so hyped hearing "the man from the Tarzan music" on the radio. Someday, I will have a child of my own and I will sing to him/her everyday as a baby, and everytime he/she feels lonely, sad, or depressed when he/she becomes an adult. I'll make sure that I'll always make him/her feel my love. Such a beautiful song.
This song reminds me of the love of my life. I thought he just turned his back on me, only to find out after 5 years that he died. Aside from my family, he is my inspiration to keep going. The hope to see him one day lived long inside my heart. He kept saying I'll be in your heart. But it broke me to know I will never gonna see him again. It shattered me to the core. I never knew love, the way he showed me. No one ever told me about his passing until I went looking for him. Until the very end, he bore in mind my welfare. He wished not to let me know because I might lose it. That same year, my Dad passed as well. My love, you'll always be in my heart, to the very last beat. I miss you so much. Thank you for all the care and love you showed me.
I just love this so much and I think a big part of my love for this song comes from the backstory behind this one. Phil wrote this for his daughter and what an awesome thing.
