they usually train in gymnastics when they were kids. so they can be upright without problems. they can do perfect handshakes. therefore when they transition to diving, they go into the water completely vertical. vertical is no splash. if you over rotate or under rotate, that's off-vertical and contributes to splash
I don’t know if you guys did this before but you guys should film a washing machine/dryer in slow motion and see the centrifugal force in action. It’s impressive how fast the machine is going and that even a fully stuffed load can be pressed so far against the edges.

It's awesome how Dan just leaves a pocket of air behind him in the water, like he's a couple feet below the edge of the pool, but the water hasn't closed in around him so he's still technically on the surface.
