Great idea for the release mechanism and I want to put it on my drone. Where does the signal come from to release the drop switch? Would also like to see more details on its construction.

Nichrome wire is what most people use. A loop of plastic string, nichome wire and a battery and relay. Trigger the relay. Wire heats up, string melts and the payload drops.
Depending on the type of relay, no moving parts.
One issue with your choice is icing on the way up.

Thanks! Icing could be a real problem on a lot of components. I definitely appreciate the input.

The actual wire is not strong enough to hold large weights, right?

@@rubenvaneupen7327 Nichrome wire doesn't take the weight. Plastic string does.

Still uses a sort of clevis pin, but uses it to control the mechanism rather than to support the weight. And by placing the clevis pin on top of the mechanism, you use gravity to minimize the chances of accidental triggering. As always, excellent thinking.

Thanks Mike! I always liked the "3 ring system" that skydivers use to cut away a bad chute. So, that was the original plan. But it occurred to me that the hinge would be like using 2 of the 3 rings... Not quite as good, but good enough???

@@stancurtin I would think so. We'll know for sure pretty soon, eh? :-)

This mechanism is awesome. Can you please educate me on where can I buy this hinge? and what is the maximum weight can it support? Thank you

Try not to use a fish eye lens on the cam try and do a wide angle. Using a fish eye ruins the video shot.

Nice. What happened to the stability of your drone right after payload release?

Kinda knew at all this. Appreciate you educating people. I see the simplicity of it but I'm a lil hard of sight n don't recognize what was in the baggy...was that a hinge of sum sort? And EXACTLY what did you use to signal the device to activate
