Reading is not a competition. It's not quantity, it's quality! You do you; we are here for it!

Hey Alana, I was sent over here by KDBooks. Your taste in books is so spot on for me and the tiny glimpse of your personality that this video provides is so lovely, I had to subscribe! I think the reading habits you have are pretty healthy, it really doesn’t matter how much you read or don’t read so long as you’re enjoying yourself. I took a little break to listen to The Tesky Brothers. I heard “Rain” and it gave me goosebumps. Glad you have good taste in music too. I’ll be watching out for your videos from now on. 💛

Thank you so much for subscribing!! That’s so true - as long as I’m enjoying my reading, that’s all that matters. YES! The Teskey Brothers are SO GOOD!!!

I love hearing your ideas on keeping your reading life in check with real living! You’re right, it is a hobby. That perspective can get mixed up. Sometimes it feels like we’re racing from one book to the next. And that doesn’t feel freeing. Re-evaluating every few months helps. I love your simplicity. 🥰

At the beginning of the year, I also thought about reading more thoroughly and not stressing myself to get to a number at the end of a month. I'm so glad I found this video of yours. I love the way you talk and explain things. ❤❤

I loved your spontaneous beach trip story! I need to work on that as well. East of Eden was one of my top reads last year, and I'm also hoping to get to Lonesome Dove this year. Happy reading and enjoying life!

Too many booktubers stick to single genres - like just new/Contemporary Fiction books (the "fads and fashionables"), just Fantasy, or just Classics. Not many are willing to stretch into new genres. So I am glad to hear _Lonesome Dove_ is still on your list.
I like books that are totally out of my wheelhouse and take me by surprise. For example, my favorite book thus far this year is (oddly enough) one about horse racing (Seabiscuit).
Like a fantasy of a quest journey (The Hobbit, LOTR), or the third book in a seven book series, or a enemies-to-lovers romance, it is familiar ground. It is not necessarily the plot that makes it good (you KNOW the outcome - like Civil War, or historical fiction), it is the writing. For me it is all about a good book, regardless of genre. Content comes first. You might be able to predict what's going to happen in a western and, despite that, _Lonesome Dove_ is still good.

    • @alanaestelle2076

True! A good book is a good book, regardless of genre.

a few years back I read over 300 books. And after that I had to reread a few of those and give them time to work on my brain. Now I actively am trying to read less every year! :)

Your reading is fantastic. I’ve started spinning my wheels on _Les Miserables_ and not happy about that. Fortunately life doesn’t have to be pegged to a timetable.
I am frankly amazed that anyone accepts free books - even with no obligation to read. A reader like you is worth more than the price of a book.

You're *definitely* my reading twin (in more ways than one) 😉Gonna attempt to get to either The Idiot, A Fine Balance or East Of Eden before the end of the year. I hope you enjoyed The Goldfinch (a good one for watching interviews with the author when you're done). For the life of me i cant understand the strong divisive opinions on this one so it'll be interesting to hear your thoughts.. Camu has always fascinated me (i kind of have a crush) interested to hear about TMOS 💕👍💖😊

Sisyphus had to roll a stone up a hill until his strength gave out and it rolled back to the starting point. However, the argument seems to be that the punishment was not pushing it up but walking back to it. The punishment is to think of the upcoming agony, the hopelessness of the task, the never-ending purgatorial loop. While struggling with the task the difficulty consumes so much personal energy it actually anesthetizes the condemned soul who is too busy and working too hard to think of or be aware on any level of the agony being experienced. So, it inverts the obvious and suggests a philosophy of life: Just keep busy doing something and don't think about how miserable you are. Eventually, you'll roll the stone so high and so far that you'll forget you're being punished, and you'll run back to the stone to start again as soon as possible.

    • @alanaestelle2076

      This was mildly depressing 🤣

    • @kurtfox4944
      @kurtfox4944 6 месяцев назад

Interesting viewpoint! My take on what I thought you implied by your comment is:
      a) DNF a book you don't like. It is punishment just to Finish a book if you don't like it.
      b) Your TBR list, no matter how short, becomes a task (i.e. work) if you stick to that commitment rather than be spontaneous. Even though you CAN switch to another book that you Want to read (which the TBR becomes a punishment), you don't because you are "walking back:" to complete the task you have not yet completed.

@@kurtfox4944 I like the comparison. Of course, you could go the conservative route and say the punishment is rolling the stone and walk back to it is rest - assuming there is a walk back and not a transportation - kind of a dreamlike situation for Sisyphus. I think tho the point is that our bodies and out minds are our prisons, and we break free from them when we occupy ourselves with something besides thinking about our predicament(s).

My mom's birthday is coming up. she loves stripes. She wanted a shirt exactly like the one you're wearing and I've not been able to find it anywhere. As for books, I'm glad you're slowing down if that's what life calls. I've only read 3 books this year b/c I'm switching careers and it's been a slow process switching my brain, doubting my decision, wanting to run to NYC for the summer and then adulting and getting back to studying. I really love A. Camus. I can't wait for that review as well as Hemingway. I hate retinol. Makes my psoriases even worse. I guess I'll be stuck with wrinkles when they come.

@@alanaestelle2076 I ended up getting her Chanel makeup. It's something she'll never buy for herself. And yes, sometimes we need to adjust to life; remember it's not about our ambitions, our projects, but about our relationships and how we treat others. That's hard for me. I could live in a bubble but that would be a wasted time. I'm adjusting to being nicer. Thanks for all of your reviews.

Nod was East of Eden, and it was, I believe, the place where Cain went after being forced to leave Adam's family farm. Is that right? Or was Nod the place where Adam and Eve went after being expelled from Eden? That would make more sense, I think. I don't know, but I think maybe readers in Steinbeck's era knew the OT better than I do.
