5:10 ALL k-pop Idols have these events every year, it's called the ISAC (Idol-Star Athletics Competition) Basically k-pop Idols compete against each other in terms of sport, examples are archery, sprinting, etc.

  • @jae_294
    @jae_294 3 года назад +175

Although it’s changing kinda-ish, Kpop has a reputation for being very “factory”-ish. Potential idols (the Korean term for a pop star) dedicate years to being a ‘trainee’ where they learn to sing, dance, rap, act, and anything else someone in the public eye needs to know. Most are young, so they balance going to school and then they go to do their K-pop training.
It’s notoriously competitive and very very difficult. Everybody wants to be a popstar, right? There’s more trainees then there are spots in groups, which creates a highly highly competitive nature. Trainees get ranked in their skills and they get cut if they’re not up to par. SKZ was a survival show group, meaning they compete on a show (think American Idol but intense).
This intense nature and ‘the reputation for creating cookie-cutter’ training of idols who don’t get creative freedom over their music is why fans appreciate groups like SKZ, BTS, and Seventeen (amongst others) who are self-producing and have control over their music.
Sorry for wall of text, I just figured that as you continue your K-pop journey, you’ll be running into more intro guides which all use this language. And it might be helpful for you to fully get a sense of what the system is like because every idol started as a trainee before they debuted :)

Just notice something, at the beginning when the three were in the studio, you can actually hear I.N song "Maknae on Top" (new song from a week ago)....and that clip was when? Awhile ago.... So amaze by them.

When they become a trainee, they have to train at the company alongside going to normal school. So there isn't actually a Kpop school. Also, most trainees live in dorms with other trainees (some live at home if they live close to the company as it's convenient). They don't necessarily all go to the same school either. Trainees have a tight training schedule (dance and vocal lessons) but most of them still need to attend school at the same time to finish their education and sit the CSAT. A lot of trainees go to popular performing arts schools such as SOPA, you may know some idols that graduated from there. Hope this helped and I'm looking forward to more Stray Kids videos! 😁

Most of the guys from Stray Kids didn't have a super long training period (about 1-3 years), but Chan passed an audition for JYP in Australia when he was 13, so that's when he went to Korea, and fun fact: he's been in a few of the JYP groups MVs before Skz debuted, like Twice "Like OOH-AHH" and Miss A "Only You", both from 2015
Well, I DID warn you guys about the amount of reading that there is on that guide, being outdated wasn't the only reason some people recommended other guides, but thanks for the reaction anyways, we appreciate the effort. =)

3RACHA doesn't put a lot of songs out anymore (as 3RACHA) cause they mostly write for Stray Kids, but they did release 3 Mixtapes in 2017 (before Skz debuted) =)
(some songs you guys could check out:
    - Runner's High (the lyrics are good, but the live performance is aMaZinG)
    - Startline (my fav)
    - Broken Compass (that was rerecorded as a Stray Kids song, #Mixtape 4, and had a few of the verses slightly changed)
    - WOW, the biggest Stray Kids meme )

The new skz vintage guide is super good and I think two of the three parts are out now. It’s more focused on the music side of each of the boys and their units so watching both would be good! The skz vintage one is super long so it’s understandable if you don’t wanna watch the full thing for a video but it does give good info so even if you don’t watch it for youtube watching on your own would be helpful to understand them!

so for reference, there are companies and labels in kpop (for example blackpink is in YG, bts in BigHit, skz in JYPE) and those labels recruit idols either through audition from a young age, or just pick handsome pretty ones from the streets. they go through a training period to sing dance etc and have monthly exams. at any point if the company thinks someone loses potential they could kick them out just like that. typically theyd assign people together and say like "ok ure the visual, ure the rapper, ure the cute one, ure the sexy one" etc and debut that group strategically. skz are different cause chan actually handpicked the members and they worked together to prove to jyp why they deserve to debut together. sorry that was kinda long ahhaha

4:51 If you watch Stray Kids Survival Show, JYP and YG organized a battle and they had to battle in Vocal, Rap and Dance categories. They chose that Blackpink song and covered darkened version. It is pretty good, you can listen~~

This is an introduction so it helps but it’s also outdated, and it doesn’t get into who the guys are too much since it’s a compilation. I suggest watching individual guides of each member by Vic Killjoy, still sort of outdated but gives more information.

3:28 when people want to be an idol and pass their auditions in companies they become trainees, and the time varies from person to person depending on whether the company gives you a chance or not to debut. in this case, chan has been waiting and training for 8 years to become an idol.

And another thought from me ahah. Boy vs girl group dances....there’s a pretty clear divide. Masculine v feminine. But it is starting to change. There are such talented female dancers in kpop, but the fact of the matter is much of the girl group choreo is dictated by the fact that they’ll be wearing ridiculous outfits and potentially heels and there’s a certain level of agressiveness that is saved for the boy groups. The gender divide is as real in Kpop as it is in real life haha. That isn’t to say that the girl group choreos aren’t difficult, they have their own way of being hard, they’re just usually different from what you’d see from the boys.
But! I do think this is changing. Girl groups are coming out with increasingly complex choreography, and many are still doing it in 5 inch heels. There’s also co-Ed groups like KARD, who do a good job of flowing between masculine and feminine in their choreos. And idols like Taemin who specifically wanted to blur the line between typically masculine and feminine dance in his choreo for Move.
Sorry for another long comment, I have many thoughts about the boy group/girl group divide in Kpop haha

It’s not a school its a company and they go after school to train and do an evaluation in front of like their dance coaches and vocal coaches and sometimes their CEO goes to check on them. the years depend if you are good enough or they see your potential they will put you in the group, the trainees live in these dorms to sleep and eat and stuff. Some trainees make it and some don’t its very hard for them.🥺😁

the (something) Kids Room is a series of video from their official channel, where they just talk to each other (usually two at a time) and tell stuff about themselves etc, in the "♥ Kids Room" one of them was in a room and two were in another room, the first one could see (by text) what the other two were saying but couldn't see who was saying it, he made questions and chooses one person to stay and in the end, they find who matches their personality.
