Bhimsen Joshi, Pt. D V Paluskar, Ustad Amir Khan and others. In terms of shAstrIya singing, they're on a different level altogether. Many would agree with your comment about Padmini, although Vyjayanthimala was, by any measure, a close second. There are those who would place the two on more or less the same pedestal.

What a wonderful song! Two of the best singers Bombay movies have ever produced gave their best in this song. I like both singers and always thought that Manna Da had a slight edge over Rafi Sahib. To my surprise, I saw an O.P. Nayyar interview in which he chose Rafi over Manna Da, pointing out how easy he was singing this song and maintained the melody throughout the range of the song. Now, I can't decide who has the edge over the other in this song.
