Listen to Toxicity. Its one of the greatest records ever. May I recommend Prison Song, Deer Dance, Science, Aerials. And Toxicity? SOAD is one of the greatest modern bands. They have simply been idle for about 15 years. They occasionally play but no new records.
Listen to their self titled album, songs like Suite Pee, Know, Cubbert, Mind, Soil, Peephole are way too good to be overlooked, also, their demos from selt titled album (the 1997 and 1995 ones) are better than the final version
I remember seeing them right before this album came out in downtown Memphis at some type of mtv sports/music festival, oddly enough. Front line. They opened the curtains and they were sitting in wheelchairs with a mock padded corner next to them. Dressed in hospital gowns. No one knew who the fuck they were or what to expect. Bought the album the next day. Been a fan since.
The kicking line I believe is about police brutality. Or even government setting up certain things. They claim to love the country but yet treat us like shit.
SOAD came out when I was in high school. Honestly I still think they are the most original metal band in the last 70 years alongside Nirvana, Rage and Led Zeppelin. Hopefully I'm not forgetting anybody
I've never known how to take bands that interject comedic elements into a rock or metal composition. I grew up with Zappa, and the "Mothers of Invention" were masterful musicians, but their content was most often tongue in cheek. Bands like Cake have managed to stay a little closer to the melding satirical lyrics but with alt-rock music. Maybe just generational. lol. Always enjoy!
I remember going to Ozzfest 06 and my hometown was the last stop of the tour and Damion announced SOAD would be taking a hiatus. My only time seeing Black Label Society 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
What's sad is, kind of like with Rage Against The Machine who was political, this band to has for all intensive purposes has come to an end over political differences.
How about a Canadian music week to honour the truckers. Rush, The Guess Who and The Tragically Hip go on my Canadian "Mount Rushmore" It would be a great debate who gets the other spot, The Band, April Wine, Chilliwack, Blue Rodeo, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Triumph, Loverboy, BNL, Guy Lombardo and the very underrated Stampeders who had a zillion hits aside from the grossly overplayed Sweet City Women.
I know you will NEVER listen to my favorite bands.The BEST Garage Band In The World , Pigface, The Cramps and my favorite band Butthole Surfers. I will continue to watch your lame bands. I wish I could see Hawkwind or Nomeansno!
