I hated that Kabuto was beating Tsunade even before he shows the blood. He just used this trick when he was in an inconvenient place but still he was dominating
I mean the writer hadn't probably thought of Sage Mode yet at this point, so you might hear things like "well Jiraya didn't use it here against Orochimaru and save everyone instantly because he likes to take a while to bust it out - he didn't use sage mode immediately with pain either." But that's kind of just a way to justify the power scaling. I think creators should just always show these "powerful" and "legendary" characters doing special transformations and abilities from the get go, so you can justify the power scaling better later on. Orochimaru could have done some primitive snake sage mode or something.
Tsunade needed one or two big badass moments like this in Shippuden. I would even say Orochimaru too. Jiraiya really is the only one who had the truly badass moment of Shippuden Sannin appearances, and it was the battle of his death. Sure, Orochimaru showed up at the war and bit Obito once with a curse mark that disappeared instantly, and sure, Tsunade healed everyone at the expense of all her chakra so she's useless for a long time. Sure. But right here Tsunade is like "Bitch I can't die in battle." And we really don't see much of that badass energy in Shippuden.
