    Your collection never ceases to amaze me. The Race - Superstar Graham bout was two out of three falls. Graham won the first by submission. Race pinned Graham to take the second fall, and the third fall ended in a time limit draw as Race had Graham in a sleeper hold. I never knew Race and Backlund had a match before their title vs. title match at the Omni in 1982. What a shame the Bockwinkel / Backlund match did not get any coverage. I don't get it. You would think the magazines would be all over that one. BTW, the brief part you saw where Dusty teamed up with Race against the Funk Brothers took place in Florida. I think it was just one match, possibly at the Bayfront Center in St. Petersburg. It was odd, to say the least, to see Dusty team with Race, but they both were sworn enemies of the Funks, so it made sense in the fans' eyes. The Japanese magazines put the American publications to shame with their coverage of pro wrestling. Remember the unification match with AWA World Champion Jerry Lawler vs. WCCW World Champion, Kerry Von Erich? Of course, both men were company champions of two struggling organizations. Kerry bled a lot in the match and looked to be on the verge of winning when the match was called in Lawler's favor due to Von Erich bleeding so much.

      Thanks man, I left several champ vs champ mags off this vid for a possible part 2. I originally wanted to just do a 10 min vid with few NWA champs. But I kept finding more n more. Several I covered in other vids before but others I’ve been holding on to for a later date. The photos in the Japanese issues are incredible! They really took combat sports serious over there. Fighting n wrestling were their NFL! They still have pre match/post match press conferences in wrestling like in our boxing. Jerry vs Kerry was bloody lol I gotta watch that again. I think Kerry went to the Wwf after that?? I’m not sure late 80s wrestling was getting rough. The crowd was changing, not many high school guys stayed with it once the cartoon circus started

      @prowrestlingmags If you remember, in that Lawler-Von Erich match, Kerry accidentally cut his arm with his blade in the dressing room right before the match started. I'm not sure, but Kerry was not paying attention, and he was scratching his arm, I believe, and the blade was on his fingertips. You can see Kerry checking it out during the introductions. So, they had to go off script slightly with Lawler going after the arm quickly to make it appear Jerry was the cause of the arm cut. Kerry's addictions hampered him during this time in his career. He did go to the WWF shortly afterward and had one last great moment, defeating Curt Henning for the Intercontinental title. His title reign did not last long, and I believe it was because of his addictions.

      @prowrestlingmags  Год назад +1

      lol yea I remember hearing that in some interviews about cutting himself before the match and they needed to work it into the match. After the Wwf he came to ECW, he was wasted. He was supposed to be a surprise coming out with a mask on, only to walk out with his ring jacket on with his name splattered all over the back lol. Wth man?!?! It fooled no one. Shortly after that he was dead. Such a shame. Such a loved guy!!

      Yes, I have a copy of the 1980 MSG match without commentary. The only sounds you can hear are the fan reaction and the sound of the body’s hitting the mat. For that reason it ranks very high among my favorite to watch!

      @@prowrestlingmags that’s the one. It’s probably one of the most underrated matches ever, simply because it was pre-expansion era. They did another one in St Louis where Race won by DQ, but I’ve only seen really grainy footage of it.

      @@aaronsugar7228oh wow! That was recorded? I’ve never seen that! I have the event program from that match/night at the Kiel, it was Nov 7th. That is one of the programs I was saving for another vid due to the fact it wasn’t title vs title. Only Race’s world title was on the line. Both Backlund and Race had an incredible year in 1980! The Backlund vs Race at msg was 9/22. A few days or weeks before that match Race just won the title back from Baba in Japan in a real good match. Well, Much better then the match when Baba won. I gotta try to find footage of that match. I just assumed it wasn’t recorded. The magazines didn’t even talk about it from what I remember.

    So many great title vs. title matches during that era of wrestling. Unfortunately the odds of that happening now is very slim. AEW did do it during COVID times. Kenny Omega was the AEW World Champion and also the Triple AAA Mexico World Champion and then wrestled Rich Swann from IMPACT Wrestling for the unified TNA/IMPACT World Titles and won both titles in a title vs. title match. So Kenny held 4 title belts to carry to the ring and was wrestling for IMPACT, AEW and Triple AAA in Mexico. That was as close as we would ever see to any wresting promotions working with each other. It made for a fun, old school time though during that COVID era for a year, but once things got back to normal, AEW and IMPACT stopped working with each other. But a great video, Bill! Very cool to see how many times champions vs. champions happened during the 60s, 70s, 80s and even the early 90s, with the UWFI vs. WCW stuff.

    I always wanted to see the Backlund/Flair match at the Omni from 1982. I heard it was recorded but Ole Anderson lost the video, Ole was the booker at the time in Georgia. NFL films lost video of the Miami/Raiders famous playoff game from 1974 for decades, so I guess it is possible...

      @@prowrestlingmags wow that was absolutely awesome! I made a 40 min video last 3 hours. Had my Harley mags out all over the floor watching along. I found 8 us covers I don't have and 17 Japanese mags I didn't have. That puts my checklist at a total of 122 total Race covers not counting programs. Man that was super cool. Watching along felt like I had an actual friend who cares about what I love. Thank you so much.

      Well thank you very much!! I appreciate that!! I absolutely do care about “what you love”. I don’t make these videos for any kind of fame, ( I never even mention my name, and never showed my face!) I’m not here to sell you or anyone a product! I’m not pushing any social media pages for you to visit (I don’t even have one) I don’t care about subscribers or likes and won’t ever ask the viewers to do such. I don’t make videos just to “show off” my stuff or brag about what I have. My “pay off” for these videos are comments like yours!
      What you just said above is the sole reason I put videos like this out there! I truly love wrestling magazines (boxing n others). It took many many years to find, complete and own every wrestling issue ever printed from every major US publication month by month year by year from 1951-1993ish. After years of getting mad from reading the completely wrong info being spread across the internet from the so called experts on wrestling mags, I realized I needed to do something with all the info I have in my hands. I was sick of ppl telling collectors with legit questions the wrong answers, and screwing up their collections! This ch you will see the proof with your own eyes what issues are out there as well as the correct month and year it was printed and who was on the cover. I’m really glad I was able to help you ID a few things to help you make your goal in collecting. The other videos I made show all issues month my month year by year all broken down in order and easy to follow if you ever wanted to complete a certain publication such as let’s say “The Wrestler” Just click on those and you will see every issue from the first printed until the last when Stanley Weston sold the company to those dreadful new owners in 1993.

      @@prowrestlingmags I have to say I have found a home. This is everything I have been searching for. Although I only collect Harley covers now this all reminds me of my childhood with my dad. He was a wrestling and boxing mag collector and would take me to the book stores with him. I would be able to pick out 2 every time and did this for years. If my dad was still alive he would have gone crazy watching these amazing videos you take the time to make and share with us. I love it. Watched about 6 videos yesterday and more will be seen today. It just blows me away. Thank you for what you do. I truly appreciate you.

      @mikedavis529 hey man thank you for sharing that with me!! I understand 1000000% what you mean and how you feel. They were fantastic times we shared and lived through with our loved ones. It’s amazing how a cover of a magazine can rewind our brain back to a specific time in our lives
      and give us that gift of nostalgia to relive it one more time!! The channel was originally created to help collectors, I only planned to make about a dozen videos. It was people such as yourself with their comments of how nostalgic the videos are to them are the reason I continue making them. Welcome to the ch!! I hope you continue to enjoy each one! They are all different in their way. I truly hope I can inspire you to branch out in your collecting, there’s many great things out there waiting for the right ppl to save them!

      @@prowrestlingmags that’s ok. You mention the Japanese cover at 13:50 but also say there wasn’t much to talk about.

      @prowrestlingmags  10 месяцев назад +1

      Ahh yea ok. The Japanese have a “photo” of Nick and Bob with the belts prior to the match yes. I can’t remember the issue but I’m in search of something else from 1979 and if I find that pic of those two I’ll comment back or l’ll show it in the beginning of my next video for you. But like I said in the video, I only recall a photo of those two, I don’t know if the match is covered (probably is in one of my gong issues). But that’s incredible you attended that event. Knowing you were there I will definitely search out everything I have for color photos of that match for you! If I do, I’ll let you know what issue for sure.

    • @prowrestlingmags
      @prowrestlingmags  10 месяцев назад +1

      Ok I found two mags that have the match. But the photos are in black n white. Thats why I skipped them. I “try to” only show color picks in our videos. Unless it’s a really rare match that no one knew about. Idk when I’ll make a new vid again but If you look up on eBay search right now (copy n paste this)
      “ Pro Wrestling Magazine May 1979 Japan.
      You will see I believe it’s Seiji Sakaguchi on the cover in a close up cover shot.
      And again if you search eBay you’ll find another issue of Gong (copy n paste this)
      別冊Gong May 1979 Japan Pro Wrestling Magazine
      You’ll see a close up cover with Jack Brisco and Inoki face! Look at those two issues and the photos of Bockwinkle vs Backland are in the listing. This will be the fastest and easiest way to see them. They are actually pretty cheap too.
