- There are a lot of optical illusion moulds on the market. I test these ones that are inexpensive to see if they work and if they are worth the money. I also show the easiest method to color these moulds to give a consistent and clean finish to them.

Do These Optical Illusion Moulds Work?
Warning: Important Health and Safety Notice:
Resin is an industrial chemical and as such should always be treated with respect and the manufacturers safety advice taken. Here is a video I have made on how I keep myself safe: • Stop Making Yourself I... - Хобби
A little tip… I take a cotton swap to go in spaces that are small like that… that way the Baby wipe doesn’t take out more than I want it too :)
This is interesting! I didn't know there were 3d printed molds!
I watch your channels equally for the content and your joyful spirit….. You make my day brighter!!!
I've used these molds and they came out brilliant!
I have to tell you you have patience to do the painting in-between. My hands shake and I love crafting. It turned out pretty good. Thank you for sharing. Your items always turn out amazing.
“Handmade with love, not perfection” ❤
I can't tell you how much I appreciate your videos. I have seen these molds before, but I wasn't sure if the optical illusion would work or how hard it would be to put different colors into such tiny spaces. I hesitate to spend money on low quality molds. Can you recommend where to get a better quality of these patterns? Thank you so much for all you do!!!!💙
I love how these turned out. I would have liked to see the top coat finish to see if any of the lines showed or if it made them less noticeable. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for doing these. I have a Mold like that & wasn’t sure it was worth the effort. I was thinking I had to paint the white in too so you saved me half a day fiddling. Much appreciated
Hi Steve, thanks for trying them out. 🙂
I have these molds, Love them. 1st I use mica powders like you, messy, 2nd I put resin in a small bottle and did the squares that way. Works so much better.
Love the patterns that these make. Thank you Steve 😊!!! Always appreciate the time you take to share with us!
Nice job 👏
I love these moulds i have them . I have done lots of color combos .
Great, these looked a nightmare to do the colours on but you did them beautifully
I would use them.
I have been looking at these! Thank you for the test drive!
I also use a cotton bud for cleaning up too! For putting mica on I use a brush from my eyeliner kit! Soft and gives good coverage and would have been in the landfill if I hadn't saved it to use!! I use makeup brushes of varying sizes (following your advice!) to apply mica.
Those work the best! I love the make up brushes for applying mica… ironically, I use them more now than I ever have for applying "make up." I never really wore it when I was younger… never felt like I needed it! But I sure do love the brushes or applicators now for doing resin Work!
Thank you for trying out these molds, Steve! I'd been eyeing them for months, wondering whether to get them, or not. Yeah, they really are fragile, aren't they? I *think* I will give these a pass, at least for now. You did a good job, though, considering what you had to work with! 😊❤
I had a look at those moulds Steve on Amazon, and I have to say that they look very different in person to what they did on the website. I don't think i'll be buying them. However, the effect you were going for came out pretty nicely. I really like the look of that Pearl white Mica powder. It was so very pigmented and pearlescent. I think I'm gonna get some of that. Thanks for the link. God bless you Steve and all those you love. Have a great week!
Awesome Video steve McDonald
You did a great job. ♥
I have those molds and I like them.
Get some of the blackest black paint and use that where you’ve put the darker shade. I bet it be really cool then.
Use a sable brush. It does not add static to powder and so mica goes on more completely and more smoothly.
I have that mica. Its beautiful
Thanks for giving it a go. I don’t think these are the greatest made molds.
This works with the mica mixed with alcohol so the dust doesn’t go everywhere, you can’t put to much alcohol though!
Instead of the lighter you can spray 100% alcohol onto your resin to pop bubbles, just don’t spray it on clear or topcoats! 👍
These look cool Steve!
I have these but haven’t used them yet but I can’t wait to use them this week.
@@SteveMcDonaldArtsandCrafts That’s cool can’t wait to see what you do!
Wabi Sabi my friend! 🖤🤍🖤
Would be nice using nail polish for those I believe as well.
Hi Steve, Thanks for sharing your Experiment with your new molds but for me Personally I really don’t think they are worth the money as I Thought the molds looked very Flimsy All the best Lin 👍✨
Ooooo I’m so glad you are doing a video on these because I have been looking at them and trying to decide if I should get them…. So, gonna watch this and see how they turn out… if it’s successful, I will add them to an order I am building in Amazon right now… gotta spend my birthday money :)
Edit….. ok now that it’s finished….
The checker board like one works for me… but the swirling one, not so much… but I think I will go ahead and get the checkerboard one… thanks for doing this Steve! You helped me make a decision on if I should buy them or not!
Thank you for that! I've seen these molds and have been thinking of buying them. They don't seem too bad. I might give it a go.
Hello Lisa
I also mixed my color into the resin
Very interesting. Mabey you can smooth them out, and make your own mold?
I have 2 illusion coaster moulds different to those. However I quite liked what you’ve done
I made them and I put it on with toothpicks for the smallest areas
Oh, they do, though filling in the spots is difficult :)
I got ones from Aliekspres and they came flawless by the way
I haven't gotten any of those molds, but i have bought some cheap ones and they are just that, cheaply made!
Hello Steve! Those are cool! I see what you mean. But still those are cool! And I was always brought up with a fun comment... Pobody's Nerfect... Heck if it isn't me shaking and making a mess, I'm knocking something over! I tend to be clutzy. My middle name.. lol Have a great evening and hope your Thanksgiving was as amazing as you!
What video editing software do you use if I may ask? Thanks.
I really appreciate your time. I have tried spraying the mold release but every time my pieces come out with a bubble effect instead of smooth. Can you tell me what to do?
Just purchased, they arrived yesterday.... With the swirling one I thought maybe resin then wipe on wipe off paint as you have shown in previous video... Just a thought. Thank you for the insight of this mold.
Hello there
Hey hun, how about the holographic molds that transfer the holo to tha resin ( black preferably) without rubbing anything on the inside surface first. A lady in Australia has done some. Just wondering what you think. Great job ❤️🇦🇺
Smaller would make some cute earrings .
Can you give for Australia not just USA and UK please?
Those are definitely different from the ones you normally use!!! I'm not really impressed with them, however, that's just me..... Others may like them very well. I guess it's a case of to each his own 🤔🤔.
Having said that, of the two the swirl one is the better one to me. Wonder what it would look like with different colors in the swirl? Maybe a green, blue, and gold 🤔🤔
Glad you are doing better. Love to you and yours ❤️❤️
Stay safe, you do you, and stay crafty 👍🛎️🦋
Yeah too bad they are not super shiny molds. I still like the effects tho! Thx for sharing! ❤✌👍
Sure!
every time i try to buy from your links things are not available ......UK
I want to know the trick to not getting a lot of bubbles. I know to stir it slowly and pour it slowly.
❤❤❤
❤
It still baffles me that the ppl making molds like these dont sand the lines away and actually finish them before making the mold. I have a few like that and they drive me crazy lol
Perfection is boring. It’s the imperfections where you find true beauty.
You did a wonderful job, but it's way to putzy & time consuming for me. I would rather print the design in black ink on clear acetate and do it that way.
Steve , I am missing your usual "welcome intro" in the last videos... 🤔 seems as if you are always in a hurry
To me, they just aren’t worth the time and effort to do. I lasted about 3 minutes working on one and I had enough and put them in the drawer lol.
Very nice. I just joined your crafts channel on utube. I have a question. I just ordered your beginners kit from your Amazon store and i need to know if the jdixion epoxy resin in your kit is good for doming projects or do I need a different resin for that and if I have to use a different resin for the doming will it work well with the jdixion epoxy resin in your kit? Please advise I just got the kit in the mail today
@WikidlySexz
The kit has JDiction's normal, medium viscosity 1:1 resin which is *great* for doming smallish projects such as jewelry, coasters, etc.... If I were to dome a large project (like a tray), I'd probably want to use their Art Coat type of resin. Can't remember if that's what they call it, but I know they have one!
