As a heavy duty mechanic I’ve spent years slowly “self teaching” welding off of various RUclips videos and hands on experience. I’ve gotten pretty comfortable with a torch would like to pick up a scarfing tip one day. Thanks for the tips. PS, I’ll forgive you about the comment on the shitty dump truck welds being done by “some fuckin mechanic” 😅😅
I honestly could weld a pecker on a snowman, but my torch game sucks. Short of gouging out welds I never touch the torch. Maybe before I retire I’ll get better at it. Videos like this are what people should be watching to learn how real skills are developed.
You ain’t kidding Anthony! I’m an assistant welding instructor and man every year it never fails. All the students want to do is learn to weld plate and pipe. And never show interest or practice on the torch. And in this business, 90% of the weld is your cut. I recommend the oxy fuel settings at oxy 20-25psi and acetylene 5-6psi. Now that’s for general use, for thicker steel, adjust accordingly. Air Arc Gouging is rough on welding machines. Need a 350 amp and up machine. And shout out to I C Weld 🤘🏾
Was always taught to remove the tip before giving it a good cleaning because debris could fall back inside torch and reclog tip. Retired now but still watching your videos. keep the sparks flying man.
Keep up with the tips and tricks. I am a retiree that now has a farm and I am teaching myself to weld etc I have picked up some good pointers from your videos.
Great videos 👌 and very useful tips . I'm just starting to weld for other people for some little extra income and always look back to your channel for tips ... your channel it's just nice🧑🏭
Anthony have you ever thought of outfitting a welding trailer to tow behind your truck on bigger welding jobs? having a covered trailer set up as a metalworking shop may be nice if your job requires more fab type work. Having a metal chop saw/grinder etc would make some jobs a bit easier too(hint-buy the biggest trailer your truck can pull cause once you start filling it with tools it will always be too small-good place to store your backup welder/generator too!)
Anthony, FYI oxygen cylinders are charged to around 2200 psi at room temperature. A small leak, especially at the high pressure side of the regulator, would possibly ignite oil or grease if present. The ignition occurs from the extreme FRICTION caused by the high pressure oxygen flowing across the oil. The oil ignites causing the brass, cast steel, rubber, etc to also ignite. This all happens in an instant with a violent explosion causing more pure oxygen being added to the atmosphere. Now there is a total hell storm. Work safe.
I just thinking of getting a torch , either the performer kit or journeyman lol I not sure which .. basically use it to make small sculptures like two by two feet. Nice video , down to earth , informative , love the demo of the gouge tip , I think that could be a creative tip , and funny video lol

@@jonathangarzon2798 I think it has to do with being able to keep movement away from the head of the torch by oxygen lever being far away. Or it could be the long barrel helps the gasses not be as cold when they reach the tip idk maybe it's in our head
I'm in highschool and in my welding class we use the scarfing tip to cut off the back plate of the certification tests and it's way faster than using a chisel or air hammer

I use a metal retractable key chain to hang my striker to my belt loop with. I work in some tight places and a carabiner doesn't give if I hang my striker up on something. Also, I'm right handed and adjust the oxygen and acetylene knobs with my left hand so find it more comfortable to hang my striker on my left side so I'm not reaching across my body every time I light my torch.
That’s a good idea with the retractable line. I use that for my metal gauge. And I also use the striker on the belt loop idea. I stole that from IC weld as well.

I've had to cut about of I beams up to 36 inch or so for crane bridges and runway beams. You have be accurate on your cut. So when you have a line you have to follow you can preheat from the opposite side of your line. If you have a line on top of your plate, preheat from the bottom.
I just bought an oxy torch(idk why, maybe because I thought it was cool to have) . It came with a rose bud attachment and I’m trying to find out what size it is to adjust my Oxy acetylene accordingly. Any help to figure out my rose bud size and oxy/fuel settings.
The reason to not oil oxigen connections is you would be adding a fuel to the oxigen source, instant fire hazard lol same goes to the threads on the cilinder cap
