“Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary” - Ubud, Bali!!
Just a 10-minute walk from my stay in Ubud brought me to the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, a place steeped in natural beauty and spiritual significance. This sanctuary is not just a tourist attraction but also an important cultural and ecological site. Managed by the local community, it aims to conserve the forest and its inhabitants while promoting harmony between humans and nature.
The sanctuary is home to hundreds of Balinese long-tailed monkeys and features ancient temples dating back to the 14th century. One of these is a sacred Shiva temple, which tourists are not permitted to enter. The forest’s history is intertwined with Balinese Hindu beliefs, making it a spiritually significant site for locals.
Upon entering, the cool and calm climate instantly embraced us, creating a warm and welcoming vibe. The entry fee is IDR 80k for adults and IDR 60k for children. The sanctuary is well-maintained, with clear guidelines for visitors to ensure a safe and respectful experience with the monkeys.
Inside, you’ll also find clean washrooms and small shops for souvenirs. Spanning a vast area, this sanctuary is perfect for nature and animal lovers-you could easily spend an entire day here exploring its serene beauty.
Overall, the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is an enriching experience, worth every penny. If you’re visiting Ubud, it’s a highly recommended stop that blends nature, history, and culture seamlessly!
