Just a question... do you enjoy it? I began with RF 800 and full frame camera (really enjoyed it, just wanted sometimes more than 800mm), but as i was going to the R7 and so effective 1280mm... OUCH! I instantly looked for a zoom lens and ended up with the Sigma 150-600C which is MUCH MORE ENJOYABLE than the RF 800 (and was cheaper). The RF 800 is an awesome lens, especially well stabilized and light for 800mm, but on APS-C its just too much often and the F11 doesnt allow for proper, sharp wildlife photography in the woods for example, at best video with 1/30 to 1/60 shutter speed. The Sigma give me 240-960mm uncropped (for 4kfine and 120 fps slowmo), in 4k60 crop video something like 400-1700mm. Also its a lot brighter (so lower ISO or higher SS) than the RF 800 F11 with 6.3, just the weight is a bit of a dealbreaker for hiking where i still love the RF 800.
@@harrison00xXx Hey, I ended up getting the 600 f11. It was on sale ($595) and I thought it would maximize the convenience factor while still having enough reach on an apsc camera. I really enjoy it, it is far lighter which makes birding a lot more relaxing. I can hang the setup by the camera strap around my neck and the pictures look great. One thing I noticed is that when the light levels are low the frame rate in the viewfinder dips which makes it harder to track things but that's part of the tradeoff in having the f11 aperture.
Hey Mark love the content, planning to get my first camera. I’m into short films and cinematography so what camera should i get? SONY ZVE-10 or Canon r10?

Hey Mark, I've been binging your content and I am still deciding whether to get the R10 or the ZV-E10. Both seem to be very good hybrid cameras. What would you reccommend for a beginner who is getting into photography/videography to get. This camera will be mostly used for recreational activities but I want it to be kinda future proof as I can use it for the next 5-7 years.
the r10 is probably better for someone who wants photos as well as video. There aren't a lot of lenses available right now - but that will change in the nest couple of years.
I really don’t know - but Canon clearly does not want viltrox to sell any products for their cameras. Which is a shame. Canon says viltrox infringes in their “patents”
Hi Mark. The pic of guy walking in your studio looks kind of dark. Not sure if it’s the R10 or your lighting. The outside shots looked great though. I hate the R10’s product page on the Canon site. It’s so boring when compared to the Nikon Z30’s web site. It’s basically just a list of specs. At least I get the info I needed from your great review!! 😎
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Sorry, I meant the “pic of you talking in the studio looks kind of dark.” I have Grammarly on my phone, and it loves to change words around.
ah - haha - the background is a bit darker because I only have an f2.8 and I normally shoot with an f2. so the light on my face is the same. but the background will be dimmer because of the brighter key light,
Hi Mark, I have a very specific question: I need a camera that can shoot 10 bit 4:2:2 4K video, unlimited (or at least for 3 hours uninterrupted) while plugged to USB-C. I was thinking between GH5II and R10. Did you test the R10 video recording with usb power on? Canon website says it has 2 hours limit.
I currently have an olympus em10 0riginal with a lumix 20mm f1:8 lnes. I photograph urban landscape to make oil paintings ,; I am a proffesional artist . However, I need a lens that is slightly wider than a 20mm , and I am hoping to buy a Canon r10 body . what would you recommend to go with the r10 body please. I have been on the canon photo sites on Farcebook, but all I got was ridicule for choosing an R10. I am strictly a photographer, video means absolutely nothin to me . Thankyou in advance> Jase
The problem with the R10, including for photos, is lens selection. To get something wider than a 20 (which is 40mm full frame equivalent) - in the Canon R - lineup - you have almost no options. The 16mm 2.8 (which is a full frame equivalent 26mm on the R10) is about the only thing you can get. And it's not a great lens. 2.8 isn't great in lowlight and the lens is only ok. There is a 24 1.8 which is much better - but it's much more expensive and gives a full frame equiv with the R10 of 38mm which is not much compared to what you have. So the only other option is the 15-35 f2.8 - which is huge and over $2000. This is currently the problem Canon has. You simply cannot buy R-Mount lenses suited for their smaller, lower priced cameras. You can buy an adapter and look for EF glass - which is what some people are doing.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thankyou so much for your response. I am in no particular rush , I am just going to wait then because I am nervous at the costs of lenses , and the limited options at the moment . Thankyou for your help. I will keep watching your channel and saving up .
I wanted to be a fan of this camera, but it's just not good enough for the price. I'd rather buy a eos Rp or Fuji S X10 or XT3 all day over this, and the Sony ZV e 10 and Nikon Z30 both have better IQ, IMO. Most videos I've seen taken with the R10 have been soft and noisy especially if the lighting isn't Optimal. It's probably a better photography camera but for video I'd pass. Another great Video Mark
I feel like the R7 is a better value myself even though that’s pretty expensive. Because, like you said, the RP exists for photos for most people, and for video, cameras like the ZV-E10 offer an excellent value. and hybrid - the Xs10 or other fujis make a lot of sense. Bsaically, I totally agree with you. 😂
10-bit is only available in HDR unfortunately. The dynamic range is not great on the camera, but 10-bit gives you a lot of colour to work with so you can colour grade it well.
Im torn between this R10 with a 50mm 1.8 RF and a zv e10 with a sigma 30mm f1.4 lens for videos what do you recommend as this shoots 10bit which may be easier to grade and fix in post.. Also the zebras and wb is a bummer on this unless canon has updated this
If you need autofocus - I would go with a Sony A7C. If you want the best camera for video with pro video features, I would get the Panasonic S5 (but you will have to manually focus - which most people do in short films). If you want the best budget option so that you can get a nice lens - I would get the Panasonic GH5 with the Sigma 16mm 1.4 (again - you will have to manually focus),
The m50 is great - but if you want good 4k and to move to canon's new system - then this is the way to go. I personally think the m50 still has a place and it's lenses right now are still better in my opinion
M series is dead and no camera models and lenses will be developed for the system. No point in buying a M50 in 2022 unless you are dead sure its current M series lenses can 100% suit your needs because there will be none coming in the horizon. And also, resale value will be meh due to the said reasons.
It depends, if you are mostly a photo fan well the M50 is a way better deal since it's basicaly as good with great AF, 11 FPS in burst and also 24 megapixel for way cheaper. But as soon as you want some good 4K... the M50 just vanish ^^
@@gigihanmandarin what lenses does the Rf-s system have to wow someone coming from m50? Also what 3rd party lenses will be available? ohh thats right... no 3rd party lenses will ever be availible.

@@pankajmandal522 I got at vacation in moldawia the R7 (new, in a photo store, with warranty...) nearly for the price i would have paid for the R10 in the EU I would go for the RP if you are really on a budget and dont care too much about video or animal eye af, or if you really want a hybrid camera, i would just step up directly at the R7, just avoid the R10 (basically too cheaped out, much more than the R7). The RP is at least only cheaped out at the video features, speed and partially by using an "old" 6D II sensor. I would have never thought about the R7 , let alone the R10 (i hated on them because of the price), but as i saw this deal i first calculated, watched, calculated again, asked... and well i had the R7 in my hands pretty fast. During vacation i saw already coming that the R7 will replace my (for over 2 years...) loved EOS RP. Whats another interesting option to think about: What about the R10 or RP, depending on your ACTUAL NEEDS and in the future a 2nd hand R10 or RP whatever you dont have yet, they share the same battery and are as RP+R7 combination very good fitting to each other (the one is a full frame photography camera, the other one a faster video and crop sensor camera) The biggest issue with canon... if you want a good all in one package, you need to get a R5 or R6 Mk2 and to get the full potential out of them you also need overpriced RF glass.

Not sure why the advertised 23 fps with electronic shutter is dismissed with the "you'll probably never need it and the 15 fps mechanical shutter works". Many of us who are looking for mirrorless are weighing heavily on electronic shutter capability. 15 fps mechanical shutter and any number ELECTRONIC shutter fps are 2 different things, particulary if the camera was bought with the expectation to rely on the electronic shutter. So, at what fps rate does the electronic shutter operate. And why are they even still showing on their advertising paperwork something that would be a major "pro", but obviously doesn't work.
Fast electronic shutter performance doesn't matter if the rolling shutter isn't good. Sure you'll get 23 fps - but chances are you're shooting something that requires a burst, like a moving subject. And that moving subject will be slanted or bent strangely because of the poor rolling shutter. This does not happen in mechanical shutter. Race cars, sports, wildlife - all will be warped with electronic shutter on the R10.
If you lose wedding photos, it's not the bride you have to fear -- it's her mother! Reviewers tend to overlook one of the R10's best features, at least for us old DSLR shooters -- control joystick!
The Canon r10 is the cheapest option - but there are still no-good lenses available for Canon APS-C - Sigma is coming out with some great ones this year for Canon though. amzn.to/3VmnO3Y
Seems the M Mount has been dead for a while I think this confirms it! I do like the unified mount system but as you mentioned there may be no 3rd part lenses for the R Mount. I hope that's not true but even so the EF lenses available are pretty darn good. Let's see what Canon can do with the RF crop lenses. I have the R7 and love it so far. Cheers.
Same here. For non-action photography, I would lean towards the z50, dynamic range often seems better with Nikon cameras. Also, it’s considerably less expensive. For video or sports/birding, the Canon cameras all the way. No stabilization like my m43 cameras and weak APS-C selection has me thinking about a used XH-1 or XS-10, but at some point I’m going to get a Z5 so idk. 🤷♂️
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis The Fujifilm camera that you mentioned- I was thinking about that one and the XT-4 as a possible way forward from the EF-M system. I’ve heard many positive things about these two and the X-system as a whole. They seem to have a great lens selection at reasonable prices. I am only afraid of their autofocus. From what reviewers are saying it’s not even in the ballpark with Sony’s and Canon’s. I’d love to watch a comparison review.
Meh. If you have an M50 and a few lenses, then "trading up" to the R10 means selling the good lenses and going to a system with a total of 4, mostly painfully slow, autofocus lenses. I don't see the advantage. (Although I don't do video at all.) I think I'll stick with my M50 until Canon either catches up, with a few fast primes (I mean "fast" like f1.8) or f4 or f2.8 zooms, OR Canon allows third party lenses. If Canon doesn't support this system with useful lenses, then Fuji or Sony would be happy to fill the gap.
Yeah, EF-M users are pretty fked, thats true. I always though like this about EF-S users when they realized Canon want to force their customers sooner or later to full frame and then they had a ton of garbage EF-S glass. A problem i completely avoided by just going for the full frame lenses and if possible higher end than lower end (and 2nd hand to make it affordable) And why are the RF system haters always complaining about missing RF APS-C lenses... yeah it sucks, but damn, EF-S still exists, something i would see as BONUS POINT (because of the Meike EF RF filter adapter!). Except for a 50mm 1.8 and a RF 800 F11 i just prefer EF(-S) lenses, with zooms its less of a problem to adapt lenses than with compact primes where the EF RF adapter gets bigger than the lens itself. Thankfully many EF-S 17-55 2.8s still exist, probably one of the best (and affordable!) fits to any APS-C canon. At least i love it on my R7
And if you are really that heavy into proper lenses... just get a speedbooster and use better, bigger aperture full frame glass... voila your APS-C is pretty much awesome and full frame like!
Plz bring Sigma 28-70 full video on zve10...... U can't leave this sexy beast..... Zve10 family is waiting for this. And if possible do side by side comparison with Sigma 18-50
Massive dislike, totally unsubscribed :P That lens selection really kills Canon in this case but certainly they'll fix it before long. Makes the FF Canon more compelling unless you specifically need a cheap body or perhaps a B or C cam, then this R10 can really fit the bill. Seems to give some great output and I'm sure the colours are solid unless it's low light
Sony really have to update their APSC lineup. The 6000 series cameras are obsolete and the ZVE10 is not for photography. Basically I can't recommend a good budget Sony camera for somebody, the R10 and R7 is just better.
I completely disagree. While Sony a6000 series are getting long in the tooth, their native apsc lens selection is vastly superior since it actually already exists. Glass is way more important than the body imo. Given Canon’s priors with apsc glass release (both with EF-S and EF-M), it’s begging for serious frustration to trust they will deliver this time with RF-M. And if they do, how long will it take ? and at what price ? And Canon have recently confirmed they won’t allow 3rd parties to develop RF lenses. That doesn’t bode well at all. On the other hand, with the recent release of the FX-30, it’s pretty clear that new photography and hybrid apsc bodies are around the corner for Sony. I absolutely love my M6 mk ii, but the lack of native long telephoto and quality fast zooms, finally made me get a Dougie + the sigma 18-50 f2.8 + sony 70-350. I’m keeping my M6 for sentimental reasons and I genuinely love the tactile feeling of shooting with it; but the E-mount got me with these 2 lenses: i love their IQ and compact sizes. It’s a great travel/hiking lineup (will be perfect once I get the 11 f1.8). I’m waiting a bit to see if an update to the a6400 is coming out for xmas or I’d be happy with an EVF accessory for the zv-e10. Otherwise I still think the A6400 is the best value for money apsc, even 3 years later.

I’m not going to say a camera is perfect when it isn’t.if you watch the other reviews, you will see I point out the negatives of the Sony, Fuji, Nikon, Panasonic and Olympus cameras. Getting this with the 800 f11 for birding. Wish they would release an apsc version but I'm not holding my breath lol
Gonna be good for that
R10 is apsc though?
@@brodylockwood14 yes. Obviously

How's the auto focus in 4K? Canon seems to have issues with 4K on a lot of their cameras. Is it duel pixel, eye auto focus in 4K?
it is dual pixel eye autofocus in 4K on the r10 - which is great news.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis In the alley, you were on the 35MM or 50MM? I don't see a link to the 35MM lens in your links. Is the 4K unlimited record time? I was looking at the Z30, but worried the record time limit could be problematic. I'll need to rewatch your comparison.
I just got my R10 after living with my 500D for way to long so ask away I'll happily answer a few questions.

Will I lose my warranty for canon r10 if I install Cinestyle on it?
Viltrox have pulled the speed booster off their website. So only resellers will have it and will they support it with firmware?
I really don’t know - but Canon clearly does not want viltrox to sell any products for their cameras. Which is a shame. Canon says viltrox infringes in their “patents”
Which one is better R10 or RP?
For video - R10 - for photo RP unless you need really fast burst rate
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
I have also heard Canon RP is better for photo than 90D. Is it true?
@@hamodiakko yes its full frame. 90 has the megapixels, but full frame just produces cleaner images.
I’m not sure what you mean by pic of guy walking in the studio. Can you clarify?
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Sorry, I meant the “pic of you talking in the studio looks kind of dark.” I have Grammarly on my phone, and it loves to change words around.
ah - haha - the background is a bit darker because I only have an f2.8 and I normally shoot with an f2. so the light on my face is the same. but the background will be dimmer because of the brighter key light,
Hi Mark,
I have a very specific question: I need a camera that can shoot 10 bit 4:2:2 4K video, unlimited (or at least for 3 hours uninterrupted) while plugged to USB-C. I was thinking between GH5II and R10. Did you test the R10 video recording with usb power on? Canon website says it has 2 hours limit.
I didn’t try it with the usbc - but the GH5ii is probably best as it’s excellent for things like that
I currently have an olympus em10 0riginal with a lumix 20mm f1:8 lnes.
Mark is the canon rp worth it in 2023?
for photos yes. but if you plan to shoot 4K video, you should look at the newly released R8.
Hi does the viltrox speed booster still works? I'm concern that canon might break it with another firmware update.
I honestly don’t know. Even it it does work - I’m not sure it will continue to work after updates.

How is the 10 bit option when it comes to dynamic range? Pushing and pulling the colours and is it available in all frame rates?
10-bit is only available in HDR unfortunately. The dynamic range is not great on the camera, but 10-bit gives you a lot of colour to work with so you can colour grade it well.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis got it. Thank you for the reply
How can the rolling shutter be fixed?
Just use slow, controlled movements - rolling shutter doesn't matter much if you're shooting properly.
Im torn between this R10 with a 50mm 1.8 RF and a zv e10 with a sigma 30mm f1.4 lens for videos what do you recommend as this shoots 10bit which may be easier to grade and fix in post.. Also the zebras and wb is a bummer on this unless canon has updated this
both good options, but the 50 on the canon will act as. 75 - so that is pretty tight for video work
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thank you... My other main concern is the HLG3 color grading vs the 10bit PQ HDR on R10 or they hold up pretty the same
Hi Mark, can you please tell me any camera that's great for short films under $2000.
If you need autofocus - I would go with a Sony A7C. If you want the best camera for video with pro video features, I would get the Panasonic S5 (but you will have to manually focus - which most people do in short films). If you want the best budget option so that you can get a nice lens - I would get the Panasonic GH5 with the Sigma 16mm 1.4 (again - you will have to manually focus),
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thank you ❤️
How can it replace canon M50? There’s like $400 price difference between the two. 😒

For photography rp ot r10 m asking bcoz both come in same price
@@pankajmandal522 I got at vacation in moldawia the R7 (new, in a photo store, with warranty...) nearly for the price i would have paid for the R10 in the EU
I would go for the RP if you are really on a budget and dont care too much about video or animal eye af, or if you really want a hybrid camera, i would just step up directly at the R7, just avoid the R10 (basically too cheaped out, much more than the R7).
Whats another interesting option to think about: What about the R10 or RP, depending on your ACTUAL NEEDS and in the future a 2nd hand R10 or RP whatever you dont have yet, they share the same battery and are as RP+R7 combination very good fitting to each other (the one is a full frame photography camera, the other one a faster video and crop sensor camera)
The biggest issue with canon... if you want a good all in one package, you need to get a R5 or R6 Mk2 and to get the full potential out of them you also need overpriced RF glass.

Rp or r10 which is better for photography 🤔
I would go for the RP if you don’t need fast shooting
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks brother 🥰
Reviewers tend to overlook one of the R10's best features, at least for us old DSLR shooters -- control joystick!
a joystick is a huge advantage for sure

Seems the M Mount has been dead for a while I think this confirms it! I do like the unified mount system but as you mentioned there may be no 3rd part lenses for the R Mount. I hope that's not true but even so the EF lenses available are pretty darn good. Let's see what Canon can do with the RF crop lenses. I have the R7 and love it so far. Cheers.
That R7 is great. Video coming
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I agree pair it with the EF-S 10-18 you have a winner for vlogging!
I am really confused betweenn the r10 and the z50 now 😵
it’s a tough choice. both are great
Is it good enough to replace my trusty little M6 Mark II :) ?
That is a better question, actually. And with the current lens selection - maybe not. But for those moving to the RF mount - then yes.
Still waiting for z30/ R10/ zve10 and I PHONE photography review brother 😭😭😭
I'll try to get that one done today. 👍
Meh. If you have an M50 and a few lenses, then "trading up" to the R10 means selling the good lenses and going to a system with a total of 4, mostly painfully slow, autofocus lenses. I don't see the advantage. (Although I don't do video at all.)
I think I'll stick with my M50 until Canon either catches up, with a few fast primes (I mean "fast" like f1.8) or f4 or f2.8 zooms, OR Canon allows third party lenses.
If Canon doesn't support this system with useful lenses, then Fuji or Sony would be happy to fill the gap.
I can’t disagree with you here. Might not be the best time to get a canon rf aps-c. Real lack of lens support.
Yeah, EF-M users are pretty fked, thats true.
I always though like this about EF-S users when they realized Canon want to force their customers sooner or later to full frame and then they had a ton of garbage EF-S glass. A problem i completely avoided by just going for the full frame lenses and if possible higher end than lower end (and 2nd hand to make it affordable)
And why are the RF system haters always complaining about missing RF APS-C lenses... yeah it sucks, but damn, EF-S still exists, something i would see as BONUS POINT (because of the Meike EF RF filter adapter!).

This is why they're likely to keep making and selling M-series cameras, even if they don't introduce new ones or more lenses.
Massive dislike, totally unsubscribed :P
That lens selection really kills Canon in this case but certainly they'll fix it before long. Makes the FF Canon more compelling unless you specifically need a cheap body or perhaps a B or C cam, then this R10 can really fit the bill. Seems to give some great output and I'm sure the colours are solid unless it's low light
haha. yeah - when they get some lenses, they’ll be even more popular. A
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Once they brand and make the cripple hammer official, then they'll sell a ton of cameras :P
Sony really have to update their APSC lineup. The 6000 series cameras are obsolete and the ZVE10 is not for photography. Basically I can't recommend a good budget Sony camera for somebody, the R10 and R7 is just better.
They definitely need a flagship APS-C fast.
Pop their bottie! 😅
seems like a negetive review
you really are looking for negativity where there isn’t any. the canon cameras are great but the lens selection is not. I point out pros and cons of all cameras on the channel. I’m not going to say a camera is perfect when it isn’t.if you watch the other reviews, you will see I point out the negatives of the Sony, Fuji, Nikon, Panasonic and Olympus cameras. It’s ok to like canon - I do as well - but you have to look at cameras objectively and take the good with the bad,
