Thank you for contacting AprilAire! You would use wire nuts to connect power to the device. Outdoor installations require the use of a UL Listed watertight conduit. Ensure that all exterior electrical boxes are outdoor rated and properly sealed to prevent water penetration into the box. A means, such as a weep hole, is recommended to drain the box. The unit itself is UL listed, as such the wiring compartment itself is UL listed and meets the requirements for electrical equipment to be enclosed in a device. How do you handle a partial basement & living-room, plus 2 bedrooms, over a dirt crawl space that is only 1 foot tall from the dirt?

Wont water get into the pipe if its not under the ledge of the roof?

Any that I have seen has a 90-degree elbow on the top. Keeps rain out of the pipe
