Nikhil, this is not meant to be critical for the sake of it, but genuine feedback: if you want to know what the real Gen-Z is thinking, please reach out to the people that take out massive loans to go abroad and land up in jobs that make them unhappy, those that are studying for 5+ years to get into IIT/NLS/AIIMS and then don't make it, or those that struggle through engineering college/MBAs to get into jobs that are part of the corporate rat race because that's what their vision for "traditional success" was. The members of this panel are exceptional in their own way. Privileged or not, I'm taking nothing away from their accomplishments. However, I'm someone with immense privilege myself and even I found this conversation "out of reach" from my personal experiences.

      1. Nikhil is the CEO of a company that employs PMs, SWEs, Data Scientists and Product Marketers, many of whom will fit this background.
      2. If he can get VC Directors, CEOs and Founders on this show, surely he can get people from these backgrounds as well.
      3. If he put out a simple LinkedIn post with these parameters he would get hundreds of applicants with these backgrounds to choose from.
How he makes the conversation interesting is dependent on his skill as a conversationalist and how comfortable he makes his guest. That bit is completely on him but surely it can’t be harder than talking to Ronnie or Tanmay or Tara.

    • @ankurbiswas9073
      @ankurbiswas9073 Год назад +25

Long story short, if Nikhil truly wants to understand building for gen-z, then he needs to talk to a sampling of users who are at least a little more typical of the background than this panel.
Again, taking nothing away from the achievements that these folks have.

Coming to amazing insights that podcast shared:
    - Some people always favor convenience over economics (UPI - Navya's thought process, over credit cards - Nikhil's thought process). Clearly the goods at all such stores that accept credit cards are priced to include the credit card MDR (fees merchants pay to financial ecosystem for accepting credit cards).
    - KV is relatively so silent throughout the conversation. We need to give him more time to speak. He feels like the silent wise person, who waits patiently for opportunity to talk.
    - Really amazed to learn about backgrounds of all the guests on the show. People jump into judging individuals (as Navya said, she knows what people are thinking of her before she walks in the room full of those very people) but do not care enough to learn about their individual backgrounds.
    - Aadit's awareness about economic principles, about investment ecosystem, and the overall business acumen he demonstrates is quite wow for someone at his age. I totally envy this much intellectual growth at such as early stage in life.
Nikhil's point about so many things,
    - like going deep deep down, childhood influences us in very deep way, documenting thoughts - 🤯,
    - the perception of our actions that were once just a joke (kinda JK) eventually can be misconstrued into something totally different.
    - Eliminate drama in your life.
    - Situations are often dramatic but more often than not people are dramatic and they draw that into your life.
    - Document and then eliminate people who bring unnecessary drama (Charlie Munger says - Exceptions to this are always there, e.g. family - so be mindful)
All this advice, I kinda feel I have also observed in one form or another as a result of listening to Annual Meetings of Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger (BRK Annual meeting recordings on CNBC)

Discussing the future with the top 0.001% does not reflect the state of nature where most youngsters are today in India. The guests in this podcast might be spending the same amount of money on clothes as the same person of their age is earning in a year. All the guests are from highly well-to-do families and are where they are today primarily due to their wealthy background.
Case in point, the Zepto bros first got into Stanford, declined the offer, and then built the startup meanwhile youngsters and students are hardly able to pay their college fees in India let alone dream of applying to Stanford, declining the offer and starting a company. (P.S I'm not denying the efforts of Zepto bros but they were able to do all this primarily due to their affluent family background)
I know they're in your social circle and thus are in the podcast but please try to bring more accurate and self-made people on the podcast

Our generation has done well and as parents have indulged the gen z, bcaz of which these kids do not feel the need for any material stuff. Material stuff is actually handed to them before they even ask for it, by these indulgent parents.
These kids who do not have this greed for material stuff, can have the mindspace to think about renting stuff , going after careers after their heart, can afford to drop out of stanford and all such risky acts. They have the confidence of parental support.
You need to even interview kids who have tried going down this path, starting with the confidence that things will work out, but it hasnt, and now are living a miserable life. What are they doing now? Do they regret not having giving themselves an alternative. Or having gone in for the education they didnt

I think it's good to take risks when you're young and have parental support as backup is also good but one should take calculative risk and should also know their risk appetite. Even if they fail they learn a lot but for that too one needs a learning mindset. Taking risks is not bad but taking non calculative risks makes one's life miserable.

Even my parents failed, experimented, fumbled, tried again, and then tried again, in the 80s, irrespective of how much their parents supported them (or not). They came into success and more stability only after 35-40 maybe. Human life isn’t as simple as we try to reduce it to be, in order to scare our children into doing what WE want them to do :)

For how much Nikhil loves Bangalore, I wish he'd make an episode on Bangalore Traffic and use it to ask some serious questions of how they've murdered our beautiful city. Like who is the genius behind hebbal flyover and that excellent magic box near cauvery theatre.

I used to think Zepto founders are from Middle class family and self made. But I got to know about his father and his connectios. Im from a village and lower middle class family. I want to do startup. Im insecure. Im not playing Victim Card. I don't hate them. My journey will be more tougher I ever thought. I would love to listen to some entrepreneurs who have achieved remarkable coming from a humble background.
Thank nikhil for your previous valueable episodes 🙂

Bro that's the thing. This isn't about you and me. It's about their experience and their journey, I don't think we should discount peoples effort even if they come from privilege. Your story will be different from theirs and that's life, life is unfair. Hope you achieve what you want to🤞

Nikhil Bhai did great bringing diverse group of people here that todays generation can relate with, Tara's story is specially interesting how she overcame her fear and Zepto brothers were just phenomenal these GEN Z are the future of Digital India. Navya isn't awkward she is sophisticated and a minimalist which is very admirable trait in a woman today but scarce at the same time.

The simple answer to why Nikhil doesn’t want to get married :
He wants to date more women..and not just stick with one life partner..
    100% thats the real answer..
With power comes high libdo 😅

Navya wouldn't have been doing a non profit had she had education debt. So a part of the motivation or rather ability to run a non profit comes from the fact that she was privileged and didn't have to worry about debt

My two cents … entrepreneurship has a direct correlation to family background ( risk appetite ) even if the background helps in taking care of the basics ( education and the Roti- Kapda- Makan ) so not necessarily rich … the kids have more appetite for risk and hence a move to entrepreneurship

This is my first full episode, and staying relevant for the whole 2hrs plus was amazing. I liked how the conversation topics were picked, enjoyed knowing the trade secrets of Zepto. I’m still not sure why Nikhil doesn’t wanna get married but probably I’ll have to watch more episodes to get clarity on that.

Tbh this is the most knowledgeable podcast I have watched which was very informative, funny, and insightful. Also love how each one of them is trying to be their own self and creating their own image aside from their family's image!!

    This is super insightful!
I'm 24yr and related every bit of it. Super interesting questions Nikhil.
Would be interesting to have someone from IIM/IIT who made it big vs the ones who did not and still made it big.
How different is life and journey of entrepreneurs or creators or film stars to make it big.

Bunch of privileged kids starting from level 50 or level 100.. while most who are watching this with lots of aspirations may be at around level 1 or level 2 of economic level.. and in my case I'm still trying to move from level 0 to level 1.. all because of the origin of my birth.. Good luck everyone.. We will shine too.. hopefully..
