    I’ve recently started free writing, and for me it’s been the best way to find the funny. Literally just writing (in pen) from the top of my head helps find the little nuisances in life that are hilarious.

      Thanks for commenting. Absolutely. Free writing as an incredible exercise. I've had lots of success with it myself. It's difficult to discuss the techniques of it as it just seems to ''Flow'' and that's why I haven't mentioned it too much. Great point.

    I like the point about POV, stereotypes and contrasting ideas. I have been trying to write a bit about how it was harder to come out as vegan than it was to come out as trans and this has got my brain going. Thanks for making this.

      Thanks for messaging Kate. So delighted to hear the type of ideas you got from the video. What's even better is you've very interesting stories to tell, ones that an audience will be excited to hear about which puts you ahead by default. Do let me know how it goes when you perform it. All the best with getting crazy with your writing.

    Well, I started to think of things in my life and then I realized that my whole life has been on big joke. So I have a plethora of stuff to write. I start laughing at all the normal things that happen, because I can see "the funny" in it. I have a crazy sense of humor. I appreciate your video, it's bringing out the crazy in me. Thanks

    This was very useful. I've been watching a lot of comedy coaching videos and they usually don't stress the need for there to be two ideas to clash together. And it's only recently that after a long period of slow progress that I see how essential this is. You can't write on a subject 'flat footed', it usually needs to be contrasted with something else.

    • @LetsTalkComedy
      @LetsTalkComedy  3 года назад

      Absolutely correct, and that way also opens up for lovely transitions between pieces. Brilliant comment.

      @@LetsTalkComedy Thanks Gary. Enjoying your videos. Have you done one on writing for a particular persona? There doesn't seem to be much on this elsewhere. I mean writing material that's consistent with your comedy persona, rather than a string of unrelated / inconsequential gags.

    I love that one!!!
    Can you make a video what a writing session should be about and how do you feel is the most optimal way of doing it. Should you do it with friends or on you own, do you record your bits afterwards to remember the acting on them etc

    • @LetsTalkComedy
      @LetsTalkComedy  3 года назад

      Thanks for commenting. I'll do my best to make a video on regular topics of conversation that are performed through stand up however I do encourage people to write what they know about. Following the norm and discussing small talk topics is fine for developing but people will open up to you if you're more unique than that and the fastest way to becoming unique is talking about topics of interest to you.
      I do have lots of videos already uploaded on writing and practicing comedy in the Comedy Writing playlist on this channel. I'll be uploading lots more over the next coming weeks.
      Thanks again and best of luck with it.

    Appreciate your video, mate. You have a knack for speaking. A lot of videos sound so rehearsed and and scripted you think, "well I definitely don't wanna sound like that".

    • @LetsTalkComedy

      Really appreciate that. The reason I chose youtube as a platform was so I could work on my camera presence. I'm happy that it's coming across in a good way. Believe me, there's lots of editing to be done, but I've definitely got better than when I started.

    I just find it so difficult to think of any punchlines or setups, do you have have any extra tips?

    • @LetsTalkComedy
      @LetsTalkComedy  Год назад +1

      I do already have quite a lot of videos on writing, more are coming. However, if you're having a hard time my suggestion is to just write. Don't think about creating punchlines for great hooking setups. Just write about your day to day activities, write about the relationships you have, good or bad, write about work, or lack of it. By just writing you'll uncover something. Now and then put a silly exaggeration into your writing. By exaggerating on one, or multiple, areas of your life you'll start to get creative and absurd. Let your mind wander and don't stop writing. It can all be rubbish, so what, the goal is to create material, not great comedy. Comedy can come later when you look back and edit the madness you create when you don't think about rules and just write. All the best with it. Now write.....

    how do you write punchlines?

    • @LetsTalkComedy
      @LetsTalkComedy  3 года назад +3

      Hey Jonathan, I'm going to address this question here only, you've asked it on five other videos. I've got lots of videos on the topic, I'd recommend checking out my "Write along" video ruclips.net/video/X2j-G4WHoXc/видео.html
      When it comes to the actual punchlines you just have to start yourself. There comes a time when you just have to write what you think is a joke and place it into a set. Doing this over and over again will eventually give you the feedback as to what part of your writing is working for you and what isn't.

    I'm 39 am I told old to get anywhere in comedy? Honest answers welcome

    • @LetsTalkComedy
      @LetsTalkComedy  Год назад +1

      Thanks for commenting. Absolutely not. Great comedy can be performed at any age. That's the beauty of it. I would even argue that older comics go down better than younger ones. They have more experience and especially if they have material that involves complaining, self depreciation, and making fun of people. All these topics suit comics who are older than 39. Nobody wants to hear a 22 year old complain about anything. But a 57 year old? Damn right they do cause they know what annoys them.
      Go for it.
