Great video as ever Roger, many thanks indeed! Whenever we land sharks on the beach we try to flip them belly up straight away: they appear to go on that state of tonic immobility that stops them from trashing around and makes the process of unhooking/releasing them easier.

Hi Rog, a couple of things.Iv'e been an qngler for 50 odd years and Iv'e learnt a few things as Iv'e gone allong. I fish the Wairapa coast in NZ these days, previously fished the Bristol channel in the UK with its 12 metre plus tidal extremes. Firstly, if you fished wired grip leads you could keep your rods 2 meters apart(using braid ) 45 left straight ahead 45 right. No more charging about like a lunatic! Braid + intelligent drag setting= distance+ sensitviity Works with our mad surf condirions, should make your life much easier.Ps recurve hooks = 100% higher hook up rate! Rwgqrda

Rodger Sharp hooks are very important I'm not a fan of chemical sharpened hooks. I like the old mustad 4190s. No 4 for whiting and bream and a no 5/0 for snapper off the rocks. And no 5/0 for Jew off the beach.

Roger I've found a problem with the running sinker and hooking up to rays and skates, do you think using a Paternosta rig is a better idea for places like down here in South Australia where eagle rays especially can be a problem and would the hook up rate be worse off on mulloway, salmon etc using the Paternosta rig over a running rig?

    • @RogerOsborneFishing

Nice catch definitely would have eaten it. One of the biggest mistakes people make when they get a large fish on is to walk along the beach following the fish. If you stand in the one place they usually do that then swim out and back out in front of you then up the beach the opposite direction. People don’t let the rod and reel do the work and don’t realise they can stand in the one place. The fish is not going to beach itself 😊

Roger I like your information as presented in many videos, but HERE we have negativity. I don't do "negative" titles (and I really don't get why the internet thinks teaching wrongs helps us do right). I choose to fill my mind with the right things TO DO, never what "NOT/NEVER" to do. Staying on the positive side of things works WAY better for my brains. I don't need it clogged up with "not to do's". I'll skip this one for that reason, and also because I've been fishing for 50 years.
