It wasn't based on a true story, what happened was that in 1900 a man wrote a book about a massive ship called the Titan that was supposed to be unsinkable and yet it hit an iceberg in the Atlantic ocean and sank, another eerie coincidence about the book (which was written fourteen years before the tragic maiden voyage of the Titanic) was that a lot of people drowned because there wasn't enough lifeboats for everyone aboard. When the book was written it was complete fiction then obviously fourteen years later the Titanic sank and it was so eerily similar to the book that had been published fourteen years before the Titanic disaster, with so many details being the same e.g. 1. The name of the ship 2. The fact it was meant to be unsinkable 3. The fact it sank by hitting an iceberg 4. There not being enough lifeboats on board 5.
