    Many thanks, Mynda. I use New Window a lot, particularly if I'm setting up complex formulas where I need to reference a table on another worksheet. My only beef with New Window is that Freeze Panes settings aren't 'inherited' by the New Window, and you have to set them up again. I know this is because Freeze Panes is a window-based setting, rather than worksheet-based, but's still a pain / pane!

      And ... if you close the second window before you close the first one, you loose all of the settings you had in your original file (freeze panes, zoom, etc.) ...

    I suggest other people to put the "Switch Windows" button all the way to the left on their QAT and show the latter under the Ribbon.
    End-users like pushing a button, but don't like remembering shortcuts.
    OTOH: years ago I purchased an add-in called "Office tabs" and I have file tabs above just like the tabs in your browser. I use that.
    NB: all of the above applies to the entire Office suite of apps.

    Great tips, just a heads up that the new window stuff tends to turn off frozen panes.

    • @MyOnlineTrainingHub
      @MyOnlineTrainingHub  Год назад

      Frozen panes are set at a window level. If you open the file in a new window, you need to set the frozen panes in that window too.

    Thank you Mynda for another great video! A functionnality that I'd love to see in Excel is a way to "pin" a sheet in a workbook to prevent it from moving out of scope especially when your worbook contains a large number of sheets. This way, one could navigate through the workbook and still easily access the pinned sheet. Have you ever wished you had that functionnality?

    • @MyOnlineTrainingHub
      @MyOnlineTrainingHub  Год назад

      Glad you liked it, Olivier! You can use the New Window feature at 3:29 to effectively pin a sheet so it's always in view or can be easily navigated to using CTRL+Tab.

    • @olivierissaverdens6916

      @@silversolver7809 Thank you Silver Solver ... but no! The problem is that, when a book contains a large number of sheet, I often need to scroll back and forth from the first sheet to the other. The way Around that I found is to open the first sheet in a new window and toggle through my windows. But this is note entirely satisfying.

      @@olivierissaverdens6916 I recommend getting a second monitor-I've used 2 for ~20 years and feel bereft if I ever have to help someone with only one. Put a second Excel instance on the other monitor, any everything's in view :)

    Really you are one of the best people in the world since you are sharing the knowledge.
    I have question if possible and I don’t know if possible to solve through excel
    I am a maintenance planner and I have to present report for number of work order - Open, Close and Carry forwarded status in dashboard report also this is comparison report between the Monthly or quarterly based on user selection parameter.
    Scenario 1:-
    if the 5 Workorder created in March and 3 WO closed in March means and rest 2 WO is carry forwarded to April means my report has to be
    Scenario 2:-
    and in April additional 3 work Order was created and 4 closed (including of last month (2 WO) carry forwarded and This month WO is 2 ) and CF is 1.
    on my report it has to present like
    Month
    Open
    Close
    Carry Forwarded
    March
    5
    3
    2
    April
    3
    4
    1
    for Open - I have creation date.
    Close - I have Completion date.
    CF - IF creation date(mm) is Not Initial and Completion date(mm) is initial and Completion date(mm) GT creation date(mm).
    this is what I planned but the problem is let say the the WO is created on March and closed in May then the report supposedly as to present like
    Month
    Open
    Close
    Carry Forwarded
    March
    1
    1
    April
    1
    May
    1
    but the problem is if the WO got closed means it effects all other counts for carry forward. for example the report resented like below;
    Month
    Open
    Close
    Carry Forwarded
    March
    1
    April
    May
    1
    so kindly let me know how to solve this issue .

    Two things to add.
    * From time to time I use just Split window in excel (instead of two windows)
    * Ctrl+PgUp / Ctrl+PgDn for switching between Sheets

    • @MyOnlineTrainingHub
      @MyOnlineTrainingHub  Год назад +1

      Thanks for sharing! I personally hate split windows because it's too easy to scroll back up and to the left past the split point so you end up just seeing the fixed rows and columns twice. I prefer freeze panes. I love CTRL+PgUp/PgDn but this was about working in multiple files, not multiple sheets so I didn't mention it, but probably should have, so thanks for adding it.

    • @mikrom

      @@MyOnlineTrainingHub I was wondering in the past if there is a shortcut for switching between Sheets. I am not very happy with this one, as in every browser it's Ctrl+Tab. But I made a simple AutoHotkey script that does switching by tilting mouse wheel and my colleague loves it 😁

    • @MyOnlineTrainingHub
      @MyOnlineTrainingHub  Год назад

      Hmmm, I use CTRL+PgUp/PgDn to switch tabs in my browsers. I use Opera, Chrome and Edge. I didn't realise CTRL+TAB also does it.

    I usually appreciate a lot your videos, but here saying that "view/new window opens a new instance of excel" is WRONG : it is a new view within the same instance of the excel app. Launching another instance of Excel is something else, very usefull in some cases (large files with long calculations times) : maybe an idea for a future video ?

    • @MyOnlineTrainingHub
      @MyOnlineTrainingHub  Год назад

      Yes, I got my terminology mixed up there. However, I don't think it obfuscated the usefulness of the feature.

      I’d say you’re in the minority 😉 Windows 11 isn’t that old, and plenty of people are still on Windows 10, so they’ll be new to those switching over.
