That was my first question too... I work in the paint industry and we use those type of motors in various sizes for heavy duty mixing anywhere from lab to large scale production... those things are expensive as hell and can last decades. Seems like somebody fucked up here...
It looks brand new too - still has some paper documentation in the terminal box, doesn't look like it was ever even hooked up at 2:14. Probably could've sold the motor as is for a few hundred $ instead of melting it.
“Today i found this punk in the scrap yard, and my boss told me he was obsolete so i was allowed to take it home as long as i melted him down and allowed no witnesses *Pulls out gag and handcuffs* i had some help shutting him up, and now its time for the melting, if anyone asks, this is just a new type of metal, Beggium. big industrial plants throw out all kinds of stuff, new old broken or not. most people would be astounded as to what gets thrown away or scrapped every day because some one deems it obsolete. looked like a brand new motor to me, the wires didn't seem to have been connected. now while I get that your all about playing with your foundry, and that's cool, I like to melt some scrap from time to time to do some casting with. I've got to throw this out there in case you happen to run across another one of those or something similar. That motor while missing the gear box that should have been around that helical gear (presumably in another bin there at your scrap yard was about a $4,500.00 motor. you could have posted that motor for sale on any resale market place, presumably you have Facebook marketplace or Craigslist down under, and bought a whole truck load of scrap that would have been a lot easier to melt down and had enough money left over to fill your propane tanks and probably made someone elses day getting a great deal on a motor.
Sad stuff! Nothing against the channel, I do enjoy watching scrap recycled into anything that avoids landfills. But it's ironic how heavy duty stuff like induction motors still in working condition are broken down and melted while other channels on RUclips go around restoring keychains and lighters!! What has the world come to 😂😂

@@bigstackD I find your friends business practice somewhat dubious. my boss wont even throw away used 70's / 80's induction motors. if the storage space exists its worth saving for many years because eventually someone will need it. That said, great video. smelting is oddly enjoyable.
Otto Kjellsson Basically this is a sister company from me another one on the other side of Australia and any scrap metal or motors or anything that goes to the scrapyard every dollar gets kicked over east so the people on this site don’t get even one cent from it and that plays a big part of the fact that they don’t mind me taking this stuff .
That's a 2300$ motor one year old, not even. More than likely it was bad. A closer inspection would show someone wired this wrong and probably blew multiple connections and any stator relay thermal fuse etc built in. Fixable yes but most industrial companies just warranty them out
I was going to say that the motor looked brand new then I saw on the nameplate date of manufacture was 2019, so almost new. Thanks for the amazing videos.

Wasn't that big. Forklift guys were probably busy. Would take longer to flag down a forklift guy, and chain it up to the lift point on the motor. Easier to roll in the bucket.

As I stated earlier this week: If you've got the time to melt down a motor, I've got time to watch. I knocked out my errands, & as I was coming home, I decided to check my phone - sure enough, the video was posted. To quote a certain t.v. show character: "I love it when a plan comes together." #HannibalSmith #ATeam P.S. I dig the "No Working During Drinking Hours" sign - Is that your idea, or where can I get one like it? Cheers from Illinois!
I'd be curious to see what your blood readings are for aluminum, and etc. That respirator is only good while you're wearing it, and any space you cut that aluminum up inside of, as your workshop, is going to be heavily contaminated with aluminum nano-particulates. In the future we will probably treat aluminum like lead. I dream of having a large vacuum table with carbon filtration that I can do all of my cutting and welding on.
LOL it doesn't work like that. It's morons that don't understand biochem that make these ridiculous comments. I'll bet you but "BPA free"metal water containers and whine when someone uses spray paint without a mask, or touches "LeAd bAsEd pAiNt" or asbestos. Educate yourself about exposure, nano particulates, solubility, and uptake. It's so cringy hearing people talk about things they know nothing about. When you've spent the better part of a decade studying biochem, come talk to me.
That is a beautiful bar of copper. Even before cleaning, they look awesome. You take the time to shine them up and then save them on your shelves for ingot to protect and look after!. Thank you big D.
I loved everything about this video. The time lapses, the camera angles, the forge, the coins, the ice, the collections, the beer, the soundtrack... Subscribed at first view.
This 7,5kw motor costs 350dollar as used. I hope you had a good reason to take it apart. A bent shaft can be repaired easly with a press. The copper dows not seemed to be burnt down.
Worth just about as much melted down probably. Though all the labor involved breaking it down would still be cost prohibitive. Its cool and all but I dont think it's a very profitable endeavor. With those skills he could make a lot more money just working at a steel mill or something.
Actually Daniel this is just a hobby I do to relax I don’t do it for profit that’s why I don’t sell anything I just stack it up and that’s why I will spend four dollars in gas on a bar of copper worth six dollars. This is just for a bit of fun to keep me busy👌🏻

@@NervousYoungInhumans You can sell scrap metal as it is without melting and casting it. If you're going to store it for a rainy day, this is one option, but from a business standpoint, you have to compare what it's worth as is, to what cast bars are worth, minus the cost of fuel, time, and labor. It probably makes more sense to sell it as is, and use the money to buy some shiny new silver eagles. That's why you often see people selling electronic scrap material to others to extract the tiny amounts of gold, rather than them going to all that trouble themselves.

Funny.
I wonder why people would throw a huge 2019 motor like its not that old feels like a waste..
@@gorak9000 he gets them from his work so he is only aloud the melt it for his collection

Hope you enjoyed the video! Learn from Beggium’s example!”
I honestly wish that I wasn't so accident prone I could give this ago, it seems therapeutic and satisfying. But alas I cannot even walk in my own house without tripping over the cordless drill -_-
Thank you for the awesome content week after week bigstackD
big industrial plants throw out all kinds of stuff, new old broken or not. most people would be astounded as to what gets thrown away or scrapped every day because some one deems it obsolete. looked like a brand new motor to me, the wires didn't seem to have been connected. now while I get that your all about playing with your foundry, and that's cool, I like to melt some scrap from time to time to do some casting with.
What has the world come to 😂😂
exactly my thoughts. The resulting bars of aluminium and copper would not be worth the cost of propane
Yes I completely understand what you’re saying but this motor and hundreds like it Are destined for the scrapyard from this local site that I live near , as my friend is the boss there they have stated numerous times productivity is more important than what they can get in scrap value or to re-purpose or re-sell the scrap or in this case new motors that they have in their scrap bins , this motor was deemed as obsolete it will never be used again on that site. I believe this motor was brand-new all it had was a crushed fan cover that could’ve easily been fixed with five minutes and a hammer,
The boss has given me free reign on the scrap bins as long as I don’t abuse the privilege and as long as what I take offsite he sees in a future video where I melt down and that’s on the condition I don’t run to the scrapyard or sell it or fix it for a quick buck. It’s an absolute shame some of the things I do meltdown but that’s part of the condition that I’m allowed to take them home with me is that that’s what I do with them whether it be an old motor new motor old light fixtures or brand-new padlocks etc.
That looked like a perfectly good motor, was only a year old. Those motors new go for at least a couple grand. Used old ones can fetch 500plus.
That's a 2300$ motor one year old, not even. More than likely it was bad. A closer inspection would show someone wired this wrong and probably blew multiple connections and any stator relay thermal fuse etc built in. Fixable yes but most industrial companies just warranty them out
had a bad dent in the top

Yea I agree, unless it had something catastrophically wrong with it, it should’ve been repurposed.
When he opened it up, the factory paperwork was still inside. I don't think it was ever used. I wonder what its story was? 🤔 Well, it ended up as BigstackD bars and coins so it had a happy ending!

Oxford English Dictionary word: “Overkill” , includes picture of the motor riding in huge front end loader. Still makes me laugh.
Oh
Wasn't that big. Forklift guys were probably busy. Would take longer to flag down a forklift guy, and chain it up to the lift point on the motor.
Easier to roll in the bucket.
Overkill is taking the stator apart. That takes forever. Also would have been easier to burn the wire out than cut the motor apart.

This is true. I cut a lot of metal for my job and the warning labels on breathing that shit in should alarm me, but a job's a job.
