Her name is Annie Lennox. She and Dave Stewart (the guitarist) were Eurythmics. Both creative and talented songwriters in their own right. I envy you discovering their music. Annie Lennox also has a rich solo career. Enjoy!!!!

Annie won an Oscar for her original song from the 3rd Lord of the Rings film- 'Return of the King'. Eurythmics bests- debut- 'Sweet Dreams (are made of this)' iconic- huge breakthrough! Next Came 'Here Comes the Rain Again'- haunting and beautiful. This song (Would I lie...) followed those. She also does a great duet with Aretha Frankin- 'Sister's are Doing it for Themselves'. Solo- check out 'Why' and 'Walking on Broken Glass' ... did a great Grammy duet with Hozier a mash up of their song 'Take me to Church' and cover she does of 'I Put a Spell on You'. She and Dave were inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.

No other band has highligthed background singers more than Annie Lennox. I remember seeing the Eurythimics in the mid 80s. One of Annie's backup singers signaled, "Do you want me to take it?" Annie signaled, "No, I've got this." Annie had been in isolation for polyps on her vocal chords for the prior six or so months. I feel very privileged to have seen Annie in full form. The song was "There Must Be an Angel." Reader, she hit every note in that arpeggio. Seeing the Queen in person, singing to my heart was just ... magic.

This song and music video was made in 1985. Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart wanted to make a Rock album during this time, and recorded their album, "Be Yourself Tonight". This music video, which you just reacted to, was inspired by Soul music artists that recorded for the Stax/Volt record labels from the 1960s, with a Memphis-style horns sound.
