      Malawi is also known as the freshwater reefs.
      as there are stone reefs and the fish are so colorful :)
      but there are most color on the Mbuna group.
      Mbuna is malawi for stone grazers, and called that as they live by the stone reefs eating of the algae on the stones. :)
      if you want to try and keep malawi get 1 of the 4 groups the cichlids are divided into, and the Mbuna group is the one who need the least space, but can be the most aggressive.

    I think you've done the best Malawi film on youtube bar non.Great photography,a great array of fish and spawning to boot. I like the mix of old time favorite fish and fish new to me like that big Yellow Boulanger(?)..the music wasn't intrusive.
    One thing that gets me? The huge amount of fish feces all over the rocks. Lake Malawi would never win best of show with such poor filtration system.
    Another,is ..where is the food? I cant believe such thin washes of algae on those rocks fatten up millions of fish. I never spotted any rotifers floating by...no worms the substrate. Amazing.

    • @twasbrillig33
      @twasbrillig33 4 года назад +1

      I agree this is the best Malawi film I've seen so far, it's outstanding! As for the fish poop, I'm surprised the entire lake doesn't die from Malawi Bloat with all that fish poop, however are we sure that is fish poop? As for the food supply, I know right?!! Although it's my understanding during certain times of the year large swarms of midges swarm over the lake having emerged from larval form, and it's said that during these times is when they fatten up. So perhaps there's a lot more insect protein in the lake we don't see.

      @Jamey Craig It really is a great nature vid Jamey ,I had to watch it again from start to finish. You should think of making one like this for an hour..maybe some underwater feeder stream footage of the African water plants ( extremely few and blurry exist)and stream fish. It was great to see Pseudotropheus.fuelleborni,one of my original African fish keeps..peaceful with that unique look on its.."face".
