I've got the Orange one. It's great for finger style and picking, the fretboard feels good in your hands and it plays well enough. Very decent bass if you're doing more metal type music. However, if you want to slap the bass and get funky, or want any other tone than flat, loud, and growly, you might want to look elsewhere, or consider this bass as a solid starting ground for upgrades. It needs a better set of pickups ASAP and a new bridge helps immensely as well. All in all I don't regret buying this guitar though. I have other instruments that I can play if I want to get funky and have a little fun, and my idiot friends always want to jam metal at some point in the night , so it's a good bass to have on hand. A little overdrive makes the standard pickups sound a lot better, but you really should upgrade them asap, because they kind of suck lol.
@@Great-Documentaries Those stock pickups literally have noise in them, a touch of hiss and distortion, it's enough to make me consider it cheap garbage. This can work in punky metal-y kind of stuff, but it can't keep up with cleaner sounding music unless you're fine with a low definition thump without crunch, twang, or much clarity. It just is what it is. For my needs upgrading it to make it more versatile makes a lot of sense since I play a lot of different kinds of things. Kind of why I said what I said about if you want a different sound, you need to change things, ya bloody weirdo. And the bridge is garbage, It's low even after a setup so it's uncomfortable to play on (for me) and it often buzzes against the strings in a harsh and terrible sounding way, and it makes the B string almost unplayable. I can't imagine why you'd defend it, especially the weird way you did, yea, I know that things from 50 years ago probably had even worse stuff to work with in some regards, but that doesn't mean that it's a quality part compared with what you can get in 2022. At this point that guitar is, what, a decade or more old? It's not like my Ernie ball bongo that's 2000 bucks and made for a very specific type of tone with all it's parts working together perfectly, it's a cheap budget line bass that has room for improvement. I got that bass for 150 bucks, what's another 300 to turn it into something special? Since it's my metal bass I threw in some emg pickups and a new preamp and a bridge with a little more height to it and it's on a whole different level, it sounds and plays like a guitar that's 1000 bucks more expensive than it really is. It's a perfect bass for learning how to upgrade because there's room to work in it and it's got room to upgrade since it's a budget model.
I bought one the roadster orange and it's amazing in sound and tone but I'm always adjusting the neck truss rod and the fist three frets seem higher so their is work to be done on it
I bought one like new condition for 140 Put set on EMG X series pickups 40 csx and 40 dcx and the X active tone control Turned it into a killer pro bass
They look totally underwhelmed at the end of this video - I was too as I'd just picked one up as a swap and thought I'd made a mistake especially after watching this video. But after spending some time with it I can say it's got a great range of sounds subtle adjustments of ALL the pots makes huge and usable differences.
I want to play bass guitar. Can I buy ibanez grs205sm guitar as my first bass guitar? Will it be good for me? I will play metal music, hard rock and others.
It's good for metal and heavy music. I played in bands 20 yrs plus. All heavy in the beginning. I always used ibanez bass . There cheap and almost dispensible. Good for the rock n roll lifestyle.
I would like this bass more of it weren't for that terrible "Phat 2 eq". If Ibanez could make this a completely passive instrument and maybe go up to at least 17mm spacing, it would sell like mad and people would love it.
@@dr.darkroom almost all "active" basses are like that. Preamp are usually the only part that is active, and pickups are passive. And opposite for most that come with active pickups, they'll generally only have a volume/tone pots. That's not to say that a dual active setup can't be done, because I personally have 1 instrument that I've added active EMG pickups and an active preamp to it at 18 volts. But it's not something builders would usually make. Spector makes some basses with active EMG pickups and a darkglass tone pump preamp. Pretty much the only instrument I know of with dual active electronics that comes from factory like that.
@@boosted0079 Very interesting. After looking through different retailers, it only states this on their website. Seems like some underhanded marketing. Making it look like something it's not. Got the bass a couple months ago and haven't really been happy with the tones and thought about upgrading the pickups so I'm in the midst of making that decision now. Also using amp Sims in a daw instead of DI box or amp so it's even more uphill in that regard.
I had a GSR205, and it wasn't a good bass. From the 5th fret up the B just sounded terrible. It also had quite a few dead-ish spots. After years of deliberation, I finally sold it. In fact i sold all my Ibbys and Corts and bought a Jazz bass copy on Aliexpress. Great bass, so i bought 2! And am planning to buy a lot more basses on Aliexpress.
Love how this bass sounds it gives you a monster tone (great for heavy metal)
And for the price it sounds as if it were a 800$ bass
As soon as you hit the first note, I said to myself "that sounds great!"!
I just got it as a Father's Day gift. I'm pumped!

you can easily bypass the eq ruclips.net/video/YWO5V7QA0Nw/видео.html

Can I play some korn with it?
is this active or passive bass?
Active. Albeit not very much is active other than that 1eq knob that I personally find to be garbage.
active
here is a video I found to turn it into a passive bass ruclips.net/video/YWO5V7QA0Nw/видео.html
It is also possible to install a switch
no slap? :(
