Back when the Weller line was between $50 and $75 these were great value whiskey. Now the secondary market has driven prices absolutely insane and it's not even close to worth it. Not surprised this wasn't your favorite, one day we'll find you some Pappy to review and see what happens
Yep, $50 seems to be what this tastes like. It's crazy the prices people pay for this juice because it's absolutely just standard and nothing special. I definitely hope to get some pappy one day!
Depends on locale. I haven't seen Weller 107 in my area but the Weller 12 was widely available. I lucked into 5 bottles and the 2023 release is amazing for a 90 proofer. The 3 teir system is way outdated amd needs to be fixed because distribution is the issue with access to and price of the Whiskey we want.
The last time I saw a Weller on the shelf in my area was a CYPB and it was $300 or so. Lucky you to have been able to find some for yourself. Sounds like the new release is much better than what I had
As a fan of scotch and peaty, smoky drinks, I think I'd rather have that bottle of Laphroaig 10 behind you... the same one in my cabinet right now lol.
💯 Absolutely!! Love smoky scotches myself as you’ll come to find out. Readily available and not insanely expensive (usually). I always make sure to have frog 10 on hand, cheers! 🥃
Yea the hype is crazy and it makes these standard whiskies out of reach, which is very unfortunate. Appreciate the feedback on the cameras, gonna keep trying to make them better
The situation with this bourbon is similar to the situation in Poland with Springbank whisky. Whisky is very difficult to get, and prices far exceed the quality of whisky eg. Springbank Local Barley 10 yo cost over 2000 zł (~520$). I hope that in a few years the prices will come down and you will be able to enjoy the taste of these whiskies at a reasonable price. Greetings 👍🥃
Yep I can imagine the Springbank problem over where you are and it is not any better here. I wish this was not the case because that means people can't enjoy these whiskies unless they overpay and that's unfortunate. Let's hope in a couple years this gets all better, cheers 🥃
It is a very nice, well-balance wheated bourbon. The MSRP is really $39.99 despite the awful secondary market prices on the order of $199 plus. If you are a wheated bourbon fan and a Weller fan, this bottle is worth paying over MSRP, but not more than $70 in my opinion. And if you absolutely must, paying up to $99 one time might be okay if your budget allows it.
I think it has nice qualities for sure and I absolutely agree with your pricing. I did a bunch of research and was seeing $70 as MSRP but $40 sounds so much closer to what's in the bottle. I agree as well a one time higher price if you are a fan. But I see them for $200+ which is so sad to see
MSRP is inflated like so much of the hard-to-find whiskies. For me personally, I am out over $50-60 now that I've tried it, as there are so many options I find more desirable over $60.
I agree with that sentiment. Like for $60 Old Forester 1920 is fantastic, Penelope Architect, Toasted, McKenna 10 year, and pretty available widely (McKenna hardest of those to find)
Idk if there’s a bottle in existence that’s worth more than $80-$100. Maybe I just don’t get it or I’m not that into bourbon. Stagg for instance, a buddy of mine got a bottle for $400 and let me try it. I told him he’s smoking dope cause there’s no way I’d pay more than $80 for it🤷🏼♂️
Yea I totally understand, "worth" I guess is a really subjective term. But $400 for Stagg is definitely not worth it, that's 4x MSRP. You will be able to drink great bourbon in your price range though, this current hype just makes no sense
There once was a 'tuber that put to market The name of the tuber was the Geln'o'Cair Soon may the Wellerman come To bring us sugar and tea and rum One day, when the tonguing is done We'll take our leave and go
You are the second person today from a big city to tell about a great price you got on a bottle that is usually extremely high. Maybe I should move....
msrp in michigan is 48 and its not worth that. I have no idea why people are charging such exorbitant prices for such an average whiskey. If you don't believe me, put it in a blind.
Oh I absolutely believe you. There isn't much substance to this juice, which is sad because if it was $50 or under it'd be pretty decent, or even to make a nicer cocktail. But the hype and secondary market are truly absurd...
No Wellers is worth secondary. Weller 12 is about on par with 1792 Aged 12 years... just wheated. It's a good $50 bottle, but the oak impact and flavor are so dilluted that it's pretty boring. I GREATLY prefer KC 12 over Weller or Barton 12. Then of course... for $100 you have JD 12 and that is probably the best age stated American product on the market for the price. There are VERY VERY few bottles of whiskey barreled in charred new oak that are great beyond 12-15 years. Depending on exposure to heat most whiskey just becomes sour oak after 12 years. Each year of extra age beyond 12 you can manage in new oak without over oaking is a bit of a miracle. I've yet to have a good 18 year bourbon. Pappy, EC, KC... all of them are just massively over oaked.
What an incredible in depth and well thought out comment, thank you for this. I agree so much that this is a good bottle for $50 max. I cannot speak to JD 12 but I really want to find and get my hands on that, seeing your comments on that makes me want to find it even more. To your second point you sound exactly like one of my whiskey bros who says Pappy 15 is far superior to him than the 23 because it is over oaked. I have not been as lucky as him to have any of that juice but it seems to be the verdict in some circles. Truly appreciate reading through this comment and I actually might pick up a KC 12 soon, cheers 🥃!
I agree with ya my dude! You can definitely still get good flavor with 90 proof but the hype and price makes this not worth it. $42 absolutely though, those days are long gone though 😭
@@glencairngamer Luckily I live in a control state so $42 is still achievable! 90 proof def able to get flavors but not from this bottle. Always the case with this one for me. Rather get a Ben Holli red wheat IMO
@codygoodman9632 yea I have some friends in control states so I'll have them keep an eye out! Thanks for the recommendation of another wheated bourbon, that's definitely an expression I'm trying to expand my palate on 🥃

Weller punching air rn. Love the new dual camera setup, thanks for the review GG. Cheers

I’m seeing Weller Special Reserve for $48 in my town
Honestly not awful but should be $30 in my opinion, hope you see better prices soon 🤣

First lymric comment on the channel, love it!
I bought one for $39.99 + tax in Chicago at a grocery store!
You are the second person today from a big city to tell about a great price you got on a bottle that is usually extremely high. Maybe I should move....
@glencairngamer No, I was extremely lucky. All the liquor stores are secondary pricing on everything!
I hate that secondary prices exist, but hope you get lucky again!!

This is crazy. You are spot on. 40 or 50 is fare.
Secondary market and the liquor stores that perpetuate it is a travesty
No way. Not worth a dollar more than $100.
I hate the secondary prices so much….
nope
😂😂
This is one bottle im glad to pass on unless i find it for the $42 msrp that it should be. Incredibly thin and the 90 proof is a turn off.

None of it is worth over msrp
Yep, I think I'm OK never being to grab this whiskey off the shelves because it'll always be secondary price
